[Top 10] Sword Art Online Best Moments of All Time (Ranked)
Sword Art Online has some intense fights, which make up a great portion of the series. However, the series also holds a vast amount of great storylines. There are some pretty intense moments in the SAO world outside of fighting. Here are my Top 10 best SAO moments:
10. Kirito and Eugeo handshake
This handshake is one of the best Kirito and Eugeo moments because viewers really start to see how their friendship is developing. This handshake, personal to the two, demonstrates a bond between two friends that viewers will not see again in the series. Eugeo and Kirito’s friendship throughout the series is iconic in itself.
9. Asuna saves Kirito when he is paralyzed by Kuradeel.
Asuna seems to always take care of Kirito and vice versa. When Kirito is paralyzed, this stays true, as Asuna helps nurture him. This episode shows the depth of Kirito and Asuna’s relationship. The two are not just battle partners, but legitimate life partners. The two take care of each other no matter the circumstance, both in and out of battle.
8. Kirito breaks Lisbeth’s best sword.
This episode shows us a different side of Lisbeth. Lisbeth has always been this kind, helpful blacksmith that viewers have come to love. However, when Kirito breaks her sword, it is almost like a switch flips on her personality. She absolutely loses it on Kirito, which is fair since she does state that this is her best sword and Kirito carelessly breaks it. This episode gives more depth to Lisbeth’s character and shows that even the nicest people can have an intense, angry side when the situation calls for it. It also shows a side of Kirito that viewers do not tend to see, as everyone seems so eager to help him and forgive him because he is such an intense leader throughout the series.
7. Kirito goes insane.
Kirito knew he was going up against Laughing Coffin, yet he only brought a small child with him in the fight. This has some of the members of the guild questioning his sanity from the start- as they should. Kirito seems off the entire time he is talking to the guild. He even allows them to attack first because he knows how much stronger he is than them. This episode is slightly scary in the sense that Kirito seems to have gone insane, but also for the fact that even in his insanity he has confidence in his strength. He knew how much stronger he was than the guild and how much higher his numbers were, so he came out on top.
6. Kirito uses his dual sword wield for the first time.
Kirito using his Dual Wield for the first time will always be one of the most iconic moments in the SAO world. Though this is part of the fight of Kirito vs. The Gleam Eyes, this is the first time he uses, and shows others, his special skill. This skill would go on to help him tremendously throughout the series and let him win battles that he otherwise may not have one, allowing him to beat the game and free the other players from the Aincrad world.
5. Kirito and Asuna enjoy their honeymoon.
Kirito and Asuna enjoying their honeymoon together has to be one of the most pure moments in the SAO series. This series is mostly about battles, as it is about a death game, and that’s how viewers mainly see Kirito and Asuna’s relationship develop. However, the two enjoying their honeymoon gives a real-world feel to their relationship. This is an aspect of their relationship that isn’t seen through battle or one person taking care of the other. No, it is just pure love and enjoyment between the two. This episode is enough to make the heart swell.
4. Kirito and Asuna watch the destruction of Aincrad together
Kirito and Asuna watching the destruction of Aincrad together is another moment that pulls on the heartstrings. We stood back and watched the two fight their way through the game in order to save themselves and everyone else in it. Then, the two sit back and watch over a sunset themed Aincrad destruction. This episode made me tear up a little, as everyone was now free from this death game and Asuna and Kirito will be able to meet in the real world.
3. Kirito and Asuna adopt Yui
Kirito and Asuna adopting Yui gives viewers another glimpse at what their real world life for the two may be like one day. Her adoption makes the heart swell because she is a child-like figure who is lost in the woods with no memory. Asuna and Kirito decide to take her in and take care of her, giving viewers this aspect of Kirito and Asuna with a traditional style family, though nothing about this world is traditional. Yui would eventually discover her true capabilities, making her very helpful in the long run, but seeing Asuna and Kirito develop into a family is something we all love to see.
2. Kirito and Asuna meet in the real world
Kirito and Asuna’s reunion in the real world is one of my all time favorite reunions to ever happen. Kirito goes to meet Asuna and she is still in the hospital. This game took a painful toll on both of their bodies and Asuna just did not bounce back as fast as Kirito did. Asuna and Kirito share their first kiss in the real world and it is like a fairytale moment. Seeing the two tear up at the sight of each other made me tear up as well. Viewers can truly see the love between the two in this episode and it is amazing how it transfers into real life just as much as it did in the game.
1. Eugeo turns into the iconic Blue Rose Sword
Eugeo turning into the Blue Rose Sword has to be one of the most iconic moments in all of SAO history. Not only does he turn himself into a sword in order to help defeat the administrator, but when he is ultimately defeated, he uses his last little bit of blood and life in order to turn into the Blue Rose Sword. We would see Kirito use his Dual Wield special skill once again when he uses the Blue Rose Sword to defeat Quinella, also known as the administrator. The Blue Rose Sword signifies not only Eugeo’s self sacrifice in order to beat Quinella, but also the strength of Kirito and Eugeo’s friendship. His turning into the Blue Rose Sword allowed him to battle with Kirito until the very end.
