Aside from slashing your way into the deeper parts of the story, your quest for Valhalla in England also involves shields for the first time in Assassin’s Creed. You may have seen a wide variety of shields in the game but all of them have different uses depending on the player’s choice.
AC Valhalla gives you a lot of shields to use in the game, and there are two types of those: the light shield and the heavy shield. Light shields are used by players who want to play at a fast pace and get quick attacks. These are mostly combined with axes, daggers, and flails.
Heavy shields, on the other hand, are bigger and longer which are combined with longswords, spears, and heavy axes. They give you more protection at the cost of speed. If you play at a slower pace, you may see this as a big win.
I have tried both shields and even came up with a double shield combo, but that is just for fun. Here is a list of shields that you can use to help you in your quest to conquer and pacify England.
5. Spartan Shield (Good for Counters)
This is Sparta!
The Spartan Shield is known for its great design and it is a callback to the previous game, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. This shield is not that fast compared to others but it packs a serious punch when you get the right time in blocking since it has a high attack.
This can be found under a bridge that serves as the border of Cent and Essex. You can find it early in the game so this one is an awesome shield that could carry you all the way to the endgame if you want to keep it.
The shield can increase your attack damage after a successful block (which deals damage of its own). That should make it easy for you to take out aggressive opponents such as berserkers or any dagger users.
The fun fact on this one is that it hits harder than any other light shield in the game, so make sure you try to block as many attacks as you can.
What makes the Spartan Shield great:
- High attack and perk increases base attack as well
- Heavy but durable in stunning enemies
- Lacks speed but allows a higher attack bonus
Spartan Shield Stats:
- Attack: 74
- Block: 72
- Crit-Pre: 56
- Speed: 42
- Stun: 101
- Weight: 14

4. Sarcophagus Shield (Good for Fire Defence)
Bringing Hel to your doorstep
If your setup is a fire-based build, then the Sarcophagus Shield is good for you to use. This one is very balanced in all facets but it thrives in turning defence into offence. This is good since you can parry attacks with the shield and create a small fire around you.
Adding some runes will make the fire chance even more frequent and dangerous. The only downside is that there may be allies or civilians who can get caught in the fire as well. Make sure you use this for those big bosses who have a ton of health.
The heavy shield can be found in Sciropscire inside Dhustone Quarry. You can see a hole in the wall along with a cage of prisoners, on the side is a chest where this item is hidden.
The Sarcophagus Shield is located in Sciropscire in a location called Dhustone Quarry. There is a hole in the wall beside a cage of prisoners and this is where a chest can be found carrying this item.
On top of that, this shield also gives you a strong stun and the added fire makes it easy for you to take out your enemies, which makes it one of the best shields in the game.
What Makes the Sarcophagus Shield Great:
- A small fire is effective against groups of enemies
- Block damage and stun makes it easy to use
- Fair attack damage makes it good for parrying too
Sarcophagus Shield Stats:
- Attack: 82
- Block: 98
- Crit-Pre: 50
- Speed: 27
- Stun: 111
- Weight: 17

3. Hrafn Guard (Good for Speed Attacks)
A trustworthy shield
You should find the best of both worlds in the Hrafn Guard. This light shield offers you speed and durability at the same time, making it easy for you to thrive in sieges and other battles that have a lot of enemies.
This shield offers you an increase in speed up to five times after a few random blocks. This is why you should pair this with a quick dagger that has an increase in either speed for more hits or critical hits per hit.
The Hrafn Guard can be found in Ledecestrescire. You will have to go to a certain spot in Venonis and find a few ruins that have a barred door and you will find a chest inside. This is just a few clicks away from Ravensthorpe so you can get this shield early in the game.
The shield’s stun makes it a top pick among players to start off the game. Aside from the Raven Clan Shield, you can also get this shield to help you out since its base stats are better than the latter.
What Makes the Hrafn Guard Great:
- It offers both speed and strong stun for an early light shield
- Speed is a win despite being a heavy light shield
- You can pair it with slow weapons and use the speed bonus
Hrafn Guard Stats:
- Attack: 45
- Block: 51
- Crit-Pre: 33
- Speed: 60
- Stun: 44
- Weight: 13

2. Royal Guard (Good for Heavy Hitters)
Your friend ‘til death
The Royal Guard lives up to its name as a strong heavy shield that you can use when you want to try a heavy style in your game. This is often paired with a long sword or a Dane axe to maximize the damage you can get from it.
You can buy this shield at a store in Tamworth Fortress or in your upgraded Trader for 500 silver. You can get it early if you invest in your Trader at Ravensthorpe, and that also removes the need for a long trip to Tamworth Fortress as well.
The shield has a great perk that allows you to get more heavy damage as long as you are in a blocking stance. This makes the shield useful in any close fights, especially against bosses.
The Royal Guard is good for players who are good at parrying then taking a defensive stance with their shields. The high stats of this shield makes it a good all-around heavy to use as well.
What Makes the Royal Guard Great:
- The shield is designed for heavy hitters but can work for any build as well
- This shield can be bought early, perfect for slow starters in the game.
- You can use this shield for any weapon type thanks to balanced stats
Royal Guard Stats:
- Attack: 85
- Block: 103
- Crit-Pre: 67
- Speed: 29
- Stun: 122
- Weight: 14

1. Briton Shield (Good for All-Around)
Sturdy than your confidence
Nothing beats a shield that can give you bonus health while in combat. The Briton Shield serves that purpose well and the fact that you can fit in with any style in the game allows you to make use of it as a secondary weapon from start to finish.
While it can be found in the middle of the game, you can try to roam around and find your way into Lunden and see the Briton Shield in the Temple of Mithras. It is in the southeastern corner of the city, and you can find it in the same place as the Orlog player and the merchant.
The good thing about this shield is the fact that you can get a lot of health when you parry. What’s good about that is that the shield offers a huge stun bonus as well. While it is not the same as the Spartan Shield, the all-around purpose works well for this one.
This is like using a sturdy shield while having the benefits of a lighter weight at 12, so this is a perfect win for you if you want to even pair it with a health-based build in your weapons and armor too.
What Makes the Briton Shield Great:
- Good for any combo and build
- Stun makes it perfect for heavy hitters and bosses
- Health regen can be backed by fire or poison damage
Briton Shield Stats:
- Attack: 63
- Block: 59
- Crit-Pre: 54
- Speed: 46
- Stun: 96
- Weight: 12
How to Get the Briton Shield:
This list may not have the shield you use right now, but that does not mean it is a bad one. You can use any shield you want, but if you want to get the best experience in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, try using any one of these and immerse yourself in better gameplay.
