10. Overkill’s The Walking Dead
Overkill's The Walking Dead Gameplay
Fight both the living and the dead with your buddies in Overkill’s The Walking Dead. Built for up to 4 players, this action first-person shooter game is set in post-apocalyptic zombie-land (aka Washington, DC). Though the players need to work together, each character has their own functions and play style.
As a coop, be ready for curveballs, as things can change quickly and will require different tactics. Use your problem-solving skills to move through various environments as a group, and you might just kill enough walking dead to win the game!
Ready, aim...
Oh. Someone’s been here already.
9. State of Decay 2
State of Decay 2 Gameplay
Kill. Survive. Build communities of ‘happy’ settlers (there's only so much happiness one can expect from a town under zombie attack!). This survival game is set in an open world, with cool background music.
The majority of the game plays in dimly lit settings, so part of the challenge is just getting around in the dark. You can carry weapons and backup equipment. Go ahead and run over the walkers with a variety of vehicles, while growing your community. Like with Overkill’s The Walking Dead, it is possible to play cooperatively, with up to four players.
I hate the Undead.
That probably hurt a bit.
8. Project Nightmares
Project Nightmares 2 Gameplay
This first person paranormal survival horror game is about a fearsome woman named Henrietta. Gameplay style creates a unique experience each time the game is played. Scientists have found a way to learn about malevolent objects via people with psychic abilities. Plugged into a machine, you will navigate through these individuals' nightmares. Try to stay alive while you search through drawers, or look for keys. But definitely do NOT get your face bitten off by any demonic dream characters! Dying in the dream world will end you in the real world, so watch out.
Will you go to Prom with me?
Okay, I was kidding!
7. Pathologic 2
Pathologic 2 Gameplay
You are the only sane person in this RPG survival game. As a doctor, you'll need to save what’s left of the town from an aggressive plague.
In only 12 days, you must solve the mystery of who or what was responsible for the disease, as well as the destruction of society. Gain allies, stay alive and build a reputation with the townsfolk, in this reworking of the 2005 Russian game.
Use the autopsy feature to examine corpses to check for infection. Resource management plays an important part in succeeding in the game, so keep that in check!
Just waitin’ around for some survivors.
Well, this isn’t one of them.
6. Vampyr
Vampyr Gameplay
This game sucks. Blood, that is. In London, after a flu outbreak, a doctor becomes a vampire. Feeding on innocent people is a conflict of interest with that ol' Hippocratic Oath. But hey, kills are optional. The game may alternately be won through combat without taking lives. Being a doctor has its benefits. For example, the doc can concoct medicinals to heal the sick. This increases the benefits of devouring such individuals. If simple vampirism isn't satisfactory, there are also weapons for hand-to-hand and ranged combat. When employing vampiric talents during the fights, blood will drain faster. Guess what that means? Forced feeding to restock!
Din-din time.
I insist, dinner is my treat.
5. System Shock Remake
System Shock Remake Gameplay
A hacker tries to thwart an evil AI project. Set in a 2072 space station, the player must retrieve emails and logs of information. The reboot of the 1994 action RPG incorporates improved artwork, and promises a release to multiple console and computer platforms simultaneously.
Sadly, the project has had many production delays, and is now expected for a 2020 release. There are 16 available weapons with which to battle a mix of cyborgs and mutant creatures controlled by that naughty AI.
In addition to the weaponry, there are acquirable dermal patches. These offer both beneficial and detrimental effects – thus should be used carefully.
Do you have that email I requested?
She had to blow it up, didn’t she?
4. Call of Cthulhu
Call of Cthulhu Gameplay
Edward Pierce P.I. investigates the death of a Bostonian family.
Somewhere along the way, it becomes known that Cthulhu (one of the Great Gods in the H.P. Lovecraft universe) will soon awaken. While you help Pierce, trust no one, and watch his sanity crumble.
A survival-horror RPG based on the writings of Lovecraft, as well as the tabletop 1981 role-playing game. Choose to research information on your own, or seek help from other characters – both playing styles will impact the outcome differently.
Such a pretty view. Or am I imagining it?
Let’s see what’s in here.
3. Outlast 2
Outlast 2 Gameplay
Religious imagery. A mass suicide. You and your wife fall victim to a cult in Arizona, while trying to investigate the murder of a pregnant woman. In this single player horror game, you must fight against hallucinations and childhood trauma flashbacks. You will lose stamina easily. To make matters worse, your handy night vision video camera (also seen in the original Outlast) loses battery juice when used as a sight aid. Luckily, extra batteries and recharge powerups are discoverable during gameplay so don't fret. Deep in this darkness lies someting so corrupt, that keeping your sanity may be your only hope of survival.
These two don’t seem too friendly.
This guy is definitely NOT friendly.
2. The Evil Within 2
The Evil Within 2 Gameplay
STEM is a machine that melds multiple human minds into one massive thinking entity. Created by the organization named Mobius, the project had involved former police officer Castellanos in a messy affair. Three years after the timeline of the The Evil Within 1, the poor chap is an alcoholic, and eventually agrees to help STEM locate his daughter who is lost within a simulated town.
But naturally, the town is overrun by monstrous creatures. Armed with a type of communication device, the player can track their progress, goals and enemies. Stealth or active combat can both be used to attack and/or avoid confrontation, and try to save Castellanos and his colleagues.
Is the fire department aware of this?
What the hell...?
1. Resident Evil 7
Resident Evil 7 Gameplay
The adrenaline that results from being terrified and vanquishing creepy ghoulies is what Resident Evil is known for. Be prepared to be scared! The seventh installment in the series harkens back to the old survival style of gameplay. This is the first game in the franchise to use first-person point of view.
The cannibal Baker family members are serious adversaries and are hard to subdue or eliminate. Serums for a virus, searching for clues in a barn, and dealing with body dismemberment are some of the challenges the player will face. Oh, and there are extra monsters and human enemies if cannibals aren’t your thing.
Honey, what’s for dinner?
I love take-out nights!
