Obtaining your favorite weapon in Terraria is just the first part of the equation. After defeating the Goblin invasion event, you'll be able to find the Goblin Tinkerer anywhere in the underground layer. This goblin clad in a lab coat will be the most important, and most expensive NPC you'll ever have in your home. Upon talking to the NPC, you'll see an option for Reforge. This allows you to add specific modifiers to your weapons and accessories. Find out which modifiers are best for your weapons through our top 10 Terraria best weapon modifiers that are great!
Each damage type has its own set of preferred 'prefixes' which add bonuses to the weapon's overall stats. We've divided the list into the four main damage types and have ranked the best modifier for each category.
Summoner Weapons
1. Mythical
The Mythical modifier is available for both magic and summoner weapons. It provides an overall increase in stats that gives an excellent boost in the performance of the weapon.
What makes the Mythical modifier great:
- Provides a wide variety of buffs which includes a perfect balance of everything
Modifier stats:
- +15% damage
- +10% speed
- +5% critical strike chance
- -10% mana cost
- +15% knockback
2. Ruthless
Most summon weapons don't have the ability to do knockback. They also do not have any chance to crit unless paired with the Kaleidoscope. You'll also find that the mana cost stat does not benefit the summoner class much as they often use their summons only once at a time. The only stat you'll need, in this case, would be the damage stat.
What makes the Ruthless modifier great:
- Has the highest damage boost for modifiers.
Modifier stats:
- +18% damage
- -10% knockback
Magic Weapons
1. Demonic
Some mage weapons don't do knockback nor cost a lot of mana to use. That's when the Demonic modifier comes into play. It offers boosts in just damage and critical chance and is a more common modifier to roll on the Reforge menu.
What makes the Demonic modifier great:
- No useless stats. It just has whatever's necessary.
Modifier stats:
- +15% damage
- +5% critical strike chance
2. Masterful
This modifier is for mage weapons that often use up more mana than what you'd put a Demonic modifier on. It has mana cost reduction and knockback while losing out on the critical strike chance.
What makes the Masterful modifier great:
- Effective for mana-heavy weapons
Modifier stats:
- +16% damage
- -12% mana cost
- +5% knockback
3. Mythical
The Mythical modifier, while useful for summoners, is more suited to the mage class. Although the stats boosted are similar for a lot of other mage weapon variants, some of the stats differ for balancing issues.
What makes the Mythical modifier great:
- It has all the stats a mage could ask for
Modifier stats:
- +15% damage
- +10% speed
- +5% critical strike chance
- -10% mana cost
- +15% knockback
Ranged Weapons
1. Deadly
Ranged weapons rely on how fast the bullet or arrow reaches the target. The Deadly modifier increases your ammo velocity while adding some well-needed stat boosts for every ranger to enjoy.
What makes the Deadly modifier great:
- No useless stats. It just has whatever's necessary.
Modifier stats:
- +10% damage
- +6% speed
- +2% critical strike chance
- +5% velocity
- +5% knockback
2. Demonic
Like with the mage class, this modifier would be a good option for weapons that don't deal knockback and already have a good critical strike chance. Stats can vary from weapon to weapon due to balancing.
What makes the Demonic modifier great:
- No frills, just good damage
Modifier stats:
- +15% damage
- +5% critical strike chance
3. Unreal
This modifier is overall the best modifier for any ranged weapon that can get it. It provides a decent boost to all necessary stats and makes your already deadly weapon even deadlier
What makes the Unreal modifier great:
- It has all the stats a ranger could ask for
Modifier stats:
- +15% damage
- +10% speed
- +5% critical strike chance
- +10% velocity
- +15% knockback
Melee Weapons
1. Demonic
The melee class, although already powerful, will hugely benefit from the flat damage boost that the demonic modifier has.
What makes the Demonic modifier great:
- Flat damage and critical strike chance increase
Modifier stats:
- +15% damage
- +5% critical strike chance
2. Godly
Melee weapons have different modifiers depending on the weapon it is applied to. For example, Godly is the best modifier you can place for any melee weapon that is not swung overhead, except for shortswords and the Terrarian.
What makes the Godly modifier great:
- Best stats for weapons that are not able to get the Legendary modifier
Modifier stats:
- +15% damage
- +5% critical strike chance
- +15% knockback
3. Legendary
Now, this is the best modifier you can get for melee if the weapon allows it. It's the melee equivalent to the Mythical and Unreal modifiers and can also be used on summoner whips.
What makes the Legendary modifier great:
- Best stats for weapons that are able to get it
- Whips can also benefit from this modifier
Modifier stats:
- +15% damage
- +10% speed
- +5% critical strike chance
- +10% size
- +15% knockback
