[Guide] Planet Zoo Best Biome - What Should You Choose
Planet Zoo’s best biome is subjective. There is no best biome to choose from. It all depends on what region and continent player’s want to choose. It’s all about adaptation and placing the right heaters and coolers down if needed.
The problems for new players are usually weather and temperature related. This guide will focus on all aspects of beginner problems. For more advanced players there will be tips on how to make more money depending on the biome.
From a beginner’s standpoint, choose a biome with low weather chances and no high or low temperatures. Temperate is the best biome for beginner’s in that sense. Oceania is also a great starter biome as there are low chances of weather affecting animals or quests.
But keep in mind, the continent's location also affects the weather and temperature. For example, if a tundra biome is chosen there will likely be snow almost all year round along with freezing temperatures.
Also keep in mind that there is no evidence of guests' happiness being affected by being cold or hot at the time of this writing. Only animals.
From a starter’s perspective countdown
7. Tundra
This Biome is the hardest biome unless there are only arctic animals. And even then, the guests will not like the freezing cold temperatures while on paths. But again this does not affect guest happiness. Placing heaters on the paths is tedious, but necessary if players want a more realistic zoo.
The best part of this biome is that you can sell hot drinks like coffee for outrageous prices. And guests will buy it because they are cold. Don’t go too far though or the happiness will go down. So slap a bunch of stands or vending machines down. Then watch the money roll in.
Tundra Review:
- Great for making money with coffee sales. Guests get cold, they buy lots of coffee to warm up
- Freezing temperature perfect for Arctic animals. Arctic animals need cold temperatures. And adding coolers everywhere is annoying and tedious
- Beautiful Snowstorms. The Frequent snowstorms are gorgeous to look at. If players like snow, thi biome is perfect
- Holiday themes make perfect sense. The wintery scenery makes for perfect weather for Holiday Themed Zoos.
- Hard for starting players. Freezing temperatures and frequent snow make for a hard time for players who don’t have many arctic animals available
- Adding heaters everywhere is annoying. At the time of writing this, placing heaters all around the zoo for heated paths is very annoying. Players will have to individually turn down the heaters because there is no one sets all
Choose Tundra Biome If:
- You have the Arctic and other DLC. In the main game, there are not many animals that are comfortable in cold temperatures. But there are many in some DLCs. Mainly the Aquatic and Arctic packs.
- You Love Arctic Animals. This biome is perfect for arctic or cold climate animals. Like Sibarian Tigers or Snow Leopards
- You Love Winter Holidays. This biome snows lots so having winter holiday themed zoos is perfect.
- You want to see how far guests will walk for coffee. This is a fun experiment in sandbox mode. Make a normal zoo and place a single coffee shop far away. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Have fun with it!
Biome Rating: 93/100
6. Desert
The Desert Biome is harsh and unforgiving. High temperatures make it hard for cold temperature animals to survive without coolers. Even normal temperature animals have a hard time.
Guests get hot and crabby with the desert biome. You know what that means? Cold drinks! Pipshot Water, Milkshakes, and Juice will sell well in this biome. Place a few of each throughout the zoo and watch the money go sky high. It makes for a nice passive income.
But otherwise, this is a good zoo for people who like hot weather animals and desert themed zoos.
Desert Biome Review:
- Great for cold drink sales. Drive the price of cold drinks up to make hot people spend more money.
- You have the Africa or Australia Pack DLC. These packs include many desert biome animals that wouldn’t need much temperature maintenance.
- You love desert buildings and plants. This biome is for people who want to build a desert themed zoo. There’s lots of desert themed buildings and plants for this biome. Especially if you have some DLC.
- Many cold drink stands. There are water, juice, milkshakes, and smoothie stands for lots of drink sale potential. Drive those cold drink prices up!
- Hard for beginner players. The harsh high temperatures makes animals too hot and lowers their welfare
Choose Desert Biome If:
- You love desert themed zoos. This is the perfect biome for anything desert themed. Especially if you have the desert themed DLCs like Africa Pack
- You have the Africa or Australia DLC pack. These DLC have many desert animals that love the desert. If players have these packs, desert biome is the way to go

Desert Biome Rating: 94/100

The Tropical Biome is great for players who love rain. This biome rains a lot, no matter the continent. It makes for big money in umbrella sales.
This is a relatively easy biome for newer players. If you place info shops around, they sell umbrellas that sell very well when it rains. Which is alot for this biome. That helps for making a passive income.
There are many animals for the tropical biome. Particularly exhibit animals. Even without DLC packs, there are still lots of animals like primates and lemurs. So if players are looking for a primate heavy zoo, tropical is the way to go.

The Taiga is another freezing zoo much like the tundra. But unlike the tundra biome, it doesn't snow as much. It still snows though so keep that in mind for animals who don’t like snow.
The Taiga Biomes would be good for players who like cold green themed zoos without the snow. Some animals like polar bears will need coolers. While others will need heaters. This Biome is a lot like the Temperate Biome, but a bit colder with some more snow.
There’s not really more to say about this Biome. Coffee sales will be good for this biome, but not cold drinks.
Taiga Biome Review:
- Good for cold climate animals. Ideal for cold climate animals like Moose or Lynx
- Does good for coffee sales. Won’t be as amazing as the tundra coffee sales, but will do just fine for a small passive income.
- Easy for new players who like cold climate animals. If players want a cold zoo, this is a great beginner biome. Because it doesn’t snow as much as tundra, you won’t need as many heaters for lots of animals.
- Great for the North America and Twilight DLC. Lots of animals from those DLC packs are perfect for the Taiga climate. For example, the Moose, red fox, and beaver
Choose Taiga Biome If:
- You have the North America or Twilight DLC. These packs have the ideal animals for this biome.
- You want decent coffee sales without the hassle of lots of snow. Less snow equals less hassle with heaters for animals and guests

There’s not much rain in this biome, but cold drinks will sell well in the hot climate. Avoid placing coffee stands anywhere unless a cooler is placed near it. The Grassland biome is ideal for hotter climate animals like the zebra and giraffe.
