The cast with their basic fairy

Fairies are a sort of pet you can get in Hyrule Warriors that give you elemental bonuses and external skills to use. They are assigned an element and come with a single skill before you teach them more. Their names are randomized, and you are able to rename them, so when I name a fairy, we are talking about the skill they are generated with since you can build them however you want after that point.

10. Len

Body Image

A light-type fairy with Invincible Weakling

This is a light-type fairy that is generated with the skill “Invincible Weakling,” a skill that raises your defense at the cost of your attack power. While it is not recommended to decrease your attack power, this is a very easy skill to get and a fairly easy fairy to capture. You can find this fairy on the Great Sea Map, an easy rank map, in the D10 square, hiding in a pot within the Ruins Summit Keep.

Len has balanced stats with no spike in any direction, which allows you to train her however you like. It will take a couple of refreshes in order to get her to any silver or higher skills, but you aren’t forced in any particular direction. There are some nice bronze skills you can give Len to partner with her generated skill to mitigate the cost of it.

Invincible Weakling is a skill that makes you harder to take down and makes your enemies harder to take down too. You can attach skills like Keep Keeper to your fairy in order to raise your attack back up once you escape your tight spot to a nearby keep. Keep Keeper can be learned by acquiring 100 Resolute, 100 Smiley, and 125 Valiant.
This skill is best used if you need to get out of a tight spot. You will have a hard time killing anything once it is activated, but you can luckily wait for it to wear off once you get yourself to safety. Having your attack completely diminished is not too great, which is why this skill is so low on the list, but sometimes you get surrounded and you just want to get out of the fray. You will not suffer any damage in the meantime, so make a break for it!

Len’s strengths

  • Invincible Weakling. Makes you invincible but decreases your attack damage.
  • Balanced. All of Len’s stats are balanced with no spikes anywhere, so you can train her in any direction you want.
  • Easy to Reach. This fairy is found on an easy rank map, so you can get it very early.

Choose Len if...

  • For Element Recommended Stages. A fairy of the recommended stage element will receive small bonuses.
  • Using Light Warriors. It is recommended to use the element matching fairies on your warriors.
  • For Damage Ranking. You can use this skill to keep your damage low on stages where you might be struggling with that.
  • Crowded by Enemies. If you ever get overrun by enemies, you can use this skill to become invulnerable while you flee.

Len Power Rating: 34/100

9. Imp

Image
Body Image

A dark-type fairy with Health Sponge

This is a dark-type fairy that is generated with the skill “Health Sponge.” This fairy can be found in square G3 of the Twilight Map, in a pot within the South Field Keep. This skill is a nice one to have, but it is done better by a weapon skill, and it can only be activated once. Still, this is a nice skill to have, especially on a harder map like the Twilight one.

Fairies with the Health Sponge skill should go on your less capable Warriors, like those with low levels or low defense. You can add this skill to a fairy with Glass Cannon to keep your health up, so you don’t fall as quickly in battle if you happen to get hit by accident. Though I would suggest a dodge skill for those occasions instead. This skill only works if you are dealing damage to enemies; it will not automatically restore health.

This skill could be useful on stages where you are not allowed to take any damage. It will regain your health while you fight if you happen to get hit at any point. You have to activate it first, though. This skill does not activate automatically like Hard Worker does. If you want a slightly more useful version of this skill, you should get Health+, the weapon skill.
Imp has a stat boost in Resolute and Aspiring right away. Resolute and Aspiring can be used in skills like Food Master and Material Master. These skills get you more drops of food and materials, respectively, and are the easiest skills to learn with both of those stats. But you still need over 200 points in these and two other stats in order to reach it. That doesn't mean you can’t use them individually for other skills.

Imp’s strengths

  • Health Sponge. The health sponge skill is a great skill that slowly leeches health from enemies. Imp was generated with a silver-level skill that requires 125 Sparkly, 100 Dizzy, and 100 Friendly to unlock.
  • Stat Spike in Resolute and Aspiring. This fairy was generated with a stat spike in Resolute and Aspiring, which gives you an upper hand in reaching Resolute or Aspiring skills.
  • Dark Fairy. Can be added to dark-type warriors for the elemental match boost.

Choose Imp if…

  • Starting out. If you’re just starting out, giving your Warrior Imp will give you Health Sponge and allow you to keep the character healed.
  • Using Weaker Warriors. When using weaker warriors, it helps to have health whenever you can get it. I'd put this fairy on a warrior who struggles to maintain their health.
  • In Heavy Damage Stages. In stages that have “devastating attacks” or boss monsters, this fairy skill will help you get through them by keeping you alive.

Imp Power Rating: 46/100

8. Ting

Image
Body Image

An electric-type fairy with Marathon Runner

Ting is a fairy that is generated with the “Marathon Runner” skill. This skill does not boost attack or defense or anything like that. It is a skill that increases your mobility around the battlefield, and it is the only one that affects your mobility. This is really useful for any battlefield you come across since being fast is a great way to keep the battle in your favor. On quiz stages, this skill won’t be very useful, but there’s no harm in having it around.

This skill is a rare one since it is the only one that increases your movement speed. Speed can help you a lot in a battle since there are a lot of things that go wrong at the allied base when you are focused elsewhere. This is a skill I tried really hard to get because I desperately needed it for missions on the higher-level maps.

Marathon Runner is a skill that can be added to any fairy setup if you have a free space that isn't overly invested in. It might be best to have a fairy that is focused on helping you out with stages that you just aren’t used to. This skill could be there, along with any other skills that help you with aspects of battle you struggle with, like health, gauges, a bonus or two, etc.

You can find this fairy on the Termina Map in square C9 in a pot within the Central Keep. The Termina Map is difficult to navigate in general due to its gimmick, but this square requires some mask items in order to get to, and the masks are hard to acquire as well. It makes this fairy available later in the game, and thus you will miss out on using it for earlier stages you might have needed it for.

Ting’s strengths

  • Marathon Runner. A skill that increases the controlled character’s movement speed.
  • Stat Spikes. This fairy has two stat spikes. One in Shrewd and one in Dizzy. You can teach her skills more easily with those two aspects.
  • Quick Pinch Skill. This is a skill that you can use once in a quick pinch.

Choose Ting if…

  • For Element Recommended Stages. A fairy of the recommended stage element will receive small bonuses.
  • Using Lightning Warriors. It is recommended to use the element matching fairies on your warriors.
  • Using Wizzrobe. I just tried playing a quest with Wizzrobe, and I didn’t realize how slow this dude was. Marathon Runner is required to play him.
  • Chaotic Battlefields. On any battlefield you struggle to take care of because the enemies will do literally anything to sabotage your base.

Ting Power Rating: 55/100

7. Daye

Image
Body Image

A light-type fairy with Repair Technician

This is a light fairy that comes equipped with the skill “Repair Technician.” From this point on the list, the much more valuable skills begin to emerge. Repair Technician is a skill that repairs your allied keeps while you are inside them. There are a couple keep related skills you can learn, but it is worth getting this fairy for those stages where standing your ground is key to your victory.

This fairy can be found on the Master Quest Map on square B12 in a pot within the Southeast Square Keep. Though the square is a bit hard to get to, this means you can get to her fairly early and make use of the skill throughout the rest of future maps. If you want to teach this skill to another fairy who has a different generated skill, it isn't too difficult. You need 100 Friendly and Sparkly and 125 Resolute.

This fairy has balanced beginner stats, so there are no skills in which you have an advantage learning. It might take a couple of refreshes before this fairy can learn anything worthwhile, but you can luckily get Hard Worker pretty early because of its low cost and beginner-friendly use. It is a little lame that you can only use it once. You have to make sure you use it on a keep you absolutely cannot lose, like the allied base.

I would pair this skill with other keep-related ones like Keep Keeper and Total Focus. You could make this fairy a territory protector with those three skills. This skill could also pair nicely with Glass Cannon and Hard Worker to take care of any boss monsters that might have taken residence within your allied base.

Daye’s strengths

  • Repair Technician. A silver level skill that replenishes allied keep gauges when you are inside one.
  • Balanced. All of Daye’s stats are balanced with no spikes anywhere, so you can train her in any direction you want.
  • Useful for Most Warriors. The majority of warriors are light types, so you can bring this fairy along in almost every fight to get more use out of her technician ability.

Choose Daye if…

  • For Element Recommended Stages. A fairy of the recommended stage element will receive small bonuses
  • Keep Contest Stages. There are many stages where you are in a contest to capture a set amount of territory. This skill will help you with maintaining control in a contested keep.
  • Protect Allied Keep Stages. There are stages where you are required to keep control of many very weak keeps. This skill, however, can only be used once, so make sure it's a keep you truly want to save.

Daye Power Rating: 50/100

6. Ghira

Image
Body Image

A dark-type fairy with Total Focus

Ghira is a dark fairy that is generated with the “Total Focus” skill. You can find this fairy on the Master Quest Map in square E6 in a pot within the Southeast Keep. The Total Focus skill is a good companion to most kinds of fairy builds because it refills all of your gauges when you are inside allied keeps. It is a silver skill that would otherwise be tough to teach any other fairy from scratch.

Total Focus, when combined with Keep Keeper and Repair Technician, you become a formidable force in keep protection. Though Keep Keeper also works on enemy keeps, this skill will only work on allied keeps. With this skill, you won’t need to have either of the fountain skills or the fill skills unless you want your magic or your special to fill while inside enemy keeps too.

Depending on how you build your fairy, you’ll only have room for one of the two “fill skills.” Fill Magic is recommended because the magic gauge provides numerous bonuses when used in battle. And it allows you to use this fairy sometimes when grinding for rupees or EXP. It won’t be the most useful, as there is a different build for that.
This fairy, like most on the Master Quest Map, is excellent for protection and higher-level stages that necessitate maintaining protection. The Total Focus skill fills all your gauges (except any character-specific ones) so you can go all out with your special, hard-hitting attacks. It's great for getting the allied base out of a jam or defending territory you can't afford to lose. It doesn’t raise your attack, and it can’t be used outside of specific areas, so it isn’t too high on the list.

Ghira’s strengths

  • Total Focus. This skill replenishes health, special attack, and the magic gauge when you’re inside allied keeps.
  • Moderate to Get. It is found in an accessible square of the Master Quest Map, but you’ll need a raft to unlock it.
  • EXP and Rupee Help. This skill fills the magic gauge, which offers you rupee and EXP bonuses when you make enough kills.

Choose Ghira if…

  • For Element Recommended Stages. A fairy of the recommended stage element will receive small bonuses.
  • Using Dark Warriors. It is recommended to use the element matching fairies on your warriors.
  • Keep Competitions. For stages where control over keeps is important, this skill would help you push enemies out of your territory.
  • Risky Keep Stages. On stages where you struggle to keep the allied base alive, this skill would help you with some instant special attacks to wipe enemies out.

Ghira Power Rating: 60/100

5. Buckler

Image
Body Image

A water-type fairy with Wall of Water

Buckler is a water fairy that was generated with the “Wall of Water” ability. This is a good ability for increasing your defenses in a pinch. It doesn’t have limited areas of effect, and it protects you from all forms of damage. You can find this fairy on the Master Quest Map in square H11, hidden in a pot within the Hilltop Keep. This is a fairly easy square to get to, allowing you to make use of this skill fairly early in the game.

With this fairy’s spike in the Smiley stat, you can more easily work towards skills that use that stat, like Special Regain, Dream Sphere, or Extreme Crush. This silver skill keeps you out of harm’s way and would go great with Glass Cannon, a much more powerful skill. You won’t need to worry about healing with this fairy on your side.

Since you can get this fairly early, you can use this skill to get through stages that force you to use Warriors you aren’t great at. There are always those few Warriors that you just don’t like using, and there are always stages where you are required to use them. Instead of struggling with those particular stages, you can use this skill to make them a little easier.

This fairy in particular has a lot of potential. With Wall of Water, it makes sense to build her for a “no remorse” Glass Cannon or you can make her fully defensive. Putting strength skills on her for the former and gauge filling skills for the latter. Wall of Water is one of two fairy skills that can be earned that also has a + level. Learning the +-level skills is very hard and, oftentimes, not very worth it.

Buckler’s strengths

  • Wall of Water. This silver-level skill places a barrier around your warrior that blocks all forms of damage for a short time.
  • Smiley Stat Spike. This stat spike makes it easier to train for Smiley skills.
  • Beginner Friendly. This skill makes this a very beginner-friendly fairy for both the player and the warriors they may choose.

Choose Buckler if…

  • For Element Recommended Stages. A fairy of the recommended stage element will receive small bonuses.
  • Using Water Warriors. It is recommended to use the element matching fairies on your warriors.
  • Using Master Sword Link. Master Sword Link is at his best when he has taken no damage, which the Wall of Water can help with.
  • Less Confident Warriors. Any warriors you are not confident in using.

Buckler Power Rating: 70/100

4. Kari

Image
Body Image

A light-type fairy with Hard Worker

This is a light fairy that is given the “Hard Worker” skill. This skill is only bronze, but it is so high on the list because Hard Worker is the skill that allows you to revive once per fight. You can earn this fairy from the Adventure Map in square G8 from a pot in the South Field Keep. This is also an easy skill to learn if you want to give it to any of your other fairies.

This fairy has many strengths in the category of health. She is focused on keeping the health of your character filled, which I use for Master Sword Link. She is built to be multipurpose so you can use her with both lightning and light element heroes or with heroes that have weapons in both of those elements. It lets you use this fairy for multiple Warriors, but the skill can be added to every fairy you have if revival is a skill you need.

You can teach this skill to your other fairies by increasing their stats to 75 Sparkly and 50 Resolute. It’s so simple that you can do it by accident. There are a lot of skills that fairies can learn to replenish health in different ways. Some allow you to fill your magic or special gauges whenever you pick up hearts, and some heal you a set amount based on how much your fairy trusts you. They’re easy to get to.
I recommend putting Hard Worker on every fairy you get because it is a free revive. It is the only skill that will revive you at all, but it is not the only skill that will restore your health. This makes the fairy more accessible should you try to use a warrior you have neglected to level up or if you accidentally choose a stage you are severely unprepared for. This is also essential if you plan on playing Hero Rank maps.

Kari’s strengths

  • Quake. Decreases the speed of foes within the aura field when the fairy is activated.
  • Shine. Replenishes the HP of allies within the aura field when the fairy is activated.
  • Hard Worker. A skill that revives you once per stage.
  • Extreme Gusts. A skill that creates a shockwave that blows back enemies when you start running.
  • Fill Special Attack. A skill that fills your special attack gauge much faster than it would normally fill.
  • Health Regain. A skill that simply replenishes health.

Choose Kari if…

  • For Element Recommended Stages. A fairy of the recommended stage element will receive small bonuses.
  • Using Light Warriors. It is recommended to use the element matching fairies on your warriors.
  • Less Confident Warriors. Use this fairy with warriors you are less confident in, since all of the skills give without taking.
  • Using Link. This fairy has both of the types that are best for Link, making it a great fairy for playing him!

Kari Power Rating: 79/100

3. Nev

Image
Body Image

An electric-type fairy with Extreme Evasion

This is a lightning fairy that comes with the skill “Extreme Evasion.” You can find this fairy on the D2 square of the Master Quest Map in a pot within the Clifftop Keep. Extreme Evasion is a useful skill that aids in dodging. Activating it allows you to create shockwaves each time you dodge. These shockwaves knock enemies over, so they can’t try attacking you once you lose invulnerability.

This fairy would be best when given to Warriors you might struggle with. Or those who might not have great abilities for getting out of a bind. This skill goes well with the strength-increasing ones and pairs nicely with health-gaining skills if you want a fairy specifically for messy situations. I prefer to have a fairy for each situation: defensive, offensive, evasive, and grinding. This has the makings of an evasive fairy.

This fairy has a stat spike in Sparkly, so you already have a small lead towards a few bronze skills that go well with any fairy. Skills like Fill Magic or Fill Special are easy to learn and help you out by filling those respective gauges each time you collect a heart.

I would teach this fairy a light elemental skill so you can use her with Link all the time rather than just when he uses Gauntlets or the Spinner. The silver skill attached to this fairy makes her a very useful ally for warriors you might struggle dodging with, as the skill specifically pertains to that aspect of the warrior. This skill is difficult to learn, so having a fairy come up with it is worthwhile.

Nev’s strengths

  • Extreme Evasion. This skill creates a shockwave that knocks down enemies when you evade past them.
  • Stat Spike in Sparkly. With a stat spike in Sparkly, this fairy can learn skills using that stat a lot easier.
  • Dodging Help. This skill helps with dodging, which is great if you forget how to guard like I do. Or if you’re on stages with “no guarding” rules.

Choose Nev if...

  • For Element Recommended Stages. A fairy of the recommended stage element will receive small bonuses.
  • Using Lightning Warriors. It is recommended to use the element matching fairies on your warriors.
  • Special Training. You should bring this fairy and others with Extreme Evasion with you to train younger warriors.
  • Devastating Attack Stages. This special form of evasion would make devastating attack stages a little easier to deal with.

Nev Power Rating: 80/100

2. Deker

Image
Body Image

A fire-type fairy with Keep Keeper

This is a fire fairy you can find in square E14 of the Master Quest Map, hiding in a pot within the Western Boulder Keep. This fairy comes equipped with the “Keep Keeper” skill. This skill increases your attack, but only when inside keeps. This skill is one of two skills that increase your attack, which puts it very high on the list.

This fairy carries the Keep Keeper skill, which is a helpful skill that increases your attack while you’re inside your own keeps. This is great for those stages where you are not allowed to lose a single keep or stages where enemies can spawn directly into your keep with the help of summoners. If you can't get the better strength skill, keeper is a good skill to have. Or when you are on a stage where you have to concentrate on keeps.

Keeps play an important role on the battlefields in this game. You'll get a lot of mileage out of this fairy just for that. To get the most out of Keeper, you could stack this fairy with a variety of skills. Repair Technician complements this skill because it allows you to repair your keeps while fighting in them with increased strength.
Since the fire fairy is less used due to the lack of fire warriors, I would highly recommend giving her non-fire foods so she will learn the skills of other elements. Light is a good element to teach this fairy because it will allow her to be used more frequently. You could also try teaching this fairy a harder skill like Elemental Magician to enable the fire type on every Warrior you give her to. It would take 125 Aspiring, 100 Eager, and 100 Valiant to learn that skill.

Decker’s strengths

  • Keep Keeper. Your attack power is increased when you are inside allied keeps.
  • Strength Increases. This fairy comes equipped with a skill that increases your strength. One of the few to have such abilities right away.
  • No Penalties. Keep Keeper does not require you to give up anything in exchange for increased strength. It works in very specific areas, however.

Choose Decker if…

  • For Element Recommended Stages. A fairy of the recommended stage element will receive small bonuses.
  • Fire Warriors. There are very few fire warriors, so you won’t be using this fairy often anyway.
  • Risky Keep Stages. There are stages where keeps are required to keep under your control in order to progress, so this skill would make it easier to keep them.

Deker Power Rating: 90/100

1. Violet

Image
Body Image

A dark-type fairy with Glass Cannon

This is a dark fairy you can find in a jar within the enemy base of Adventure Map square H12. This fairy will be generated with the “Glass Cannon” skill, which is an invaluable skill to have in this game. This skill increases your attack, but it makes you defenseless, so you have to be prepared to never get hit. I have built this fairy around the Glass Cannon skill.

This fairy will get a lot of use throughout the game because of its glass cannon skill. This skill is recommended in most guides for its strength increase. This fairy is exclusive to the Definitive Edition and cannot be found in the 3DS or WiiU versions of the game. Glass Cannon is a hard skill to teach a fairy because it requires over 200 points in Dizzy, Friendly, Resolute, and Sparkly.

This fairy comes prepared with a hard-to-learn skill that increases your attack. It is the only fairy skill that increases your attack. This fairy is also very easy to obtain, allowing you to make use of its great abilities very early in the game. You can equip this fairy with Hard Worker to ensure you don’t immediately fail a mission when using Glass Cannon. Other health-regaining skills or evasion skills would be useful for this fairy as well.
This fairy has been built for blasting through stages with very little care. You can repair keeps as you pass through them, revive once, fill your special attack constantly, and increase your strength at the expense of defense. It is for speedy characters who can race through the battle and commit several hits and runs on the enemy until you win the fight. This fairy is not recommended for Warriors who have trouble dodging.

Violet’s strengths

  • Doubled Shade. Enemies lose HP when you activate your fairy’s magic. Only works within the aura field.
  • Hard Worker. A skill that revives you once per stage.
  • Repair Technician. A skill that repairs keeps as you remain inside them.
  • Fill Special Attack. A skill that fills your special attack gauge much faster than it would normally fill.
  • Glass Cannon. A skill that gives you extra strength at the cost of some defense.

Choose Violet if…

  • For Element Recommended Stages. A fairy of the recommended stage element will receive small bonuses.
  • Using Dark Warriors. It is recommended to use the element matching fairies on your warriors.
  • Keep Retaining Stages. This fairy is equipped with Repair Technician which makes it way easier to hold onto keeps you have to defend.
  • Warriors You’re Confident In. With Glass Cannon, you need to ensure that you either have the health skills mentioned above or a warrior you are confident in using.
  • Following a Guide. This fairy comes with a skill that most guides will recommend you have.

Violet Power Rating: 95/100
