Wild mode has always been an amalgamation of chaos, a place where only the strongest of cards see play.
While legendary cards are always scarce with only a few released per expansion, the many years of accumulation resulted in hundreds of legendaries available in Wild. Perhaps it’s time to give them all a review and present you the Top 30 legendary cards for Hearthstone’s Wild format.
30. Kingsbane (Rogue)
But it has a soft spot for emperors.
Kingsbane is easily the most iconic legendary weapon of Hearthstone (Twigs don’t count as weapons, okay Druid?).
Kingsbane Rogue might not be making many waves in Wild as an off-meta deck, but it sure can bring you the feeling of being a raid boss, cutting down anyone who stands before you.
What’s Great About Kingsbane:
- Infinite value from weapon-buffing effects since all enchantments are preserved
- Only way for the enemy to counter is by discarding your Kingsbane since you can attack and lifesteal from Taunt minions
- Matches well against aggro decks by having lifesteal while also outlasting control decks since you never take fatigue damage
How To Get Kingsbane:
Unlock through buying Wild card packs, Kobolds and Catacombs card packs, or card crafting
29. Altruis the Outcast (Demon Hunter)
By my fury!
Altruis is coming to teach those who dare underestimate him a severe lesson, one that will be carved into their bones.
This card takes advantage of low-cost class cards to continuously trigger the AOE effect and shred through all who oppose you.
What’s Great About Altruis the Outcast:
- Bypasses Taunt while also avoiding hitting lifesteal minions
- Able to output a lot of damage when paired with card discount effects like Illidari Studies
- 2 health allows Altruis to survive pings especially when he is protected by a Taunt minion
How To Get Altruis the Outcast:
Unlocked as part of the Demon Hunter Initiate set along with the Demon Hunter class
28. Aya Blackpaw (Druid)
Golems are a girl's best friend!
Don’t let this Pandaren deceive you with her modest stats or else her ever-growing army of jade golems might just beat you up!
What’s Great About Aya Blackpaw:
- Crucial jade generation card for Jade Druid in the midgame where it is at the weakest
- Guaranteed +2/+2 buff to your next jade golem summon thanks to her Battlecry and Deathrattle
- Can be used as a disposable high-damage minion since most of her usage is through generating jade golems
How To Get Aya Blackpaw:
Unlock through buying Wild card packs, Mean Streets of Gadgetzan card packs, or card crafting
27. Shirvallah, the Tiger (Paladin)
It's time to test your mettle!
Shirvallah might just be the least-played legendary in this list, and for good reason.
The high mana cost made this card almost unplayable without being cheated out. Another usage for Shirvallah that gained popularity is being an activator for Holy Wrath.
Both these methods meant that this tiger seldom saw the light of the battlefield, making for a sad battle kitty.
What’s Great About Shirvallah, the Tiger:
- Consistent 25 damage nuke when paired with Holy Wrath since Shirvallah stays in the deck and cannot be disrupted
- Can be discounted up to 0 mana for Control Paladin decks
- Fast removal with its 7 attack and Divine Shield plus Rush
How To Get Shirvallah, the Tiger:
Unlock through buying Wild card packs, Rastakhan’s Rumble card packs, or card crafting
26. Sunkeeper Tarim (Paladin)
Un'Goro belongs to the titans!
All is fair in the eyes of this protector, some more fair than others.
Sunkeeper Tarim is an irreplaceable component of any Silver Hand Paladin deck and allows you to rely on numerical superiority to gang up on the enemy. So much for a Paladin’s honor.
What’s Great About Sunkeeper Tarim:
- Tarim can remove up to 3 minions that have been affected by the Battlecry
- Massive swing turn automatically gives you control of the board if you have more minions than the enemy
- Effectively heals any minion below 2 health when their stats are changed
How To Get Sunkeeper Tarim:
Unlock through buying Wild card packs, Journey to Un’Goro card packs, or card crafting
25. Dr. Boom, Mad Genius (Warrior)
"Of course I've gone mad with power. Ever try going mad without it?"
Dr. Boom, Mad Genius represented the darkest of times for aggro players.
His insane armor gain and minion generation meant that Dr. Boom can forcefully drag games towards 30 minute slugfests, a true utopia for control players.
What’s Great About Dr. Boom, Mad Genius:
- The Blast Shield hero power allows you to stack armor to offset fatigue on super long games
- The Delivery Drone hero power provides infinite value for only 2 mana
- Permanent Rush for all your mechs synergizes well with Omega Assembly and Delivery Drone hero power
How To Get Dr. Boom, Mad Genius:
Unlock through buying Wild card packs, The Boomsday Project card packs, or card crafting
24. Edwin Vancleef (Rogue)
The Brotherhood shall prevail.
More Miracle Rogue players still prefer this original version of Edwin Vancleef over his shiny new counterpart.
While not providing any card draw, a less restrictive activation condition gives you more freedom to summon Edwin at any point in the match.
Play properly around your Edwin turn and he will make sure that you prevail.
What’s Great About Edwin Vancleef:
- Even just 2 combo activators like a Preparation into Fan of Knives can allow Edwin to snowball as a 6/6 minion
- Can be played with only 1 combo card to avoid certain kill spells like Shadow Word: Death
- Perfect starting hands can allow Edwin to end the game by turn 4 by having an overwhelming amount of stats
How To Get Edwin Vancleef:
Unlock through buying Classic card packs or card crafting
23. Shudderwock (Shaman)
My jaws that bite, my claws that catch!
These claws and jaws have proven their might over and over again while also breaking the game the same number of times.
What’s Great About Shudderwock:
- Strong value card that can repeat up to 30 Battlecries
- Pseudo OTK combo card with the Shudderwock Shaman deck
- Requires a lot of setup but is unstoppable once cast due to the many copies of this minion being bounced back to hand
How To Get Shudderwock:
Unlock through buying Wild card packs, The Witchwood card packs, or card crafting
22. Prophet Velen (Priest)
Not all who wander are lost.
A core card for any Priest deck in Wild, Prophet Velen acts as your best weapon when in Shadowform or your best shield by doubling your heals.
What’s Great About Prophet Velen:
- Convenient source of burst damage by having your Mind Blast deal 10 damage with just a single copy of Velen
- Makes your damage and healing spells go out of control when Velen is cloned or resurrected
- 7/7 statline makes Velen able to trade blows versus enemy minions
How To Get Prophet Velen:
Unlock through buying Classic card packs or card crafting
21. Fire Plume’s Heart (Warrior)
Why does an active volcano need to be defended? To save its ash.
The only quest where the reward is as frustrating to play as it is to play against. Your shiny new hero power might deal 8 damage per turn, but every click of the button feels like playing a coin toss of whether you can hit your target or burn that 1/1 Murloc Tinyfin to ashes.
What’s Great About Fire Plume’s Heart:
- The quest progress is negligible as Control Warriors naturally run a lot of Taunt minions already
- Consistent turn 1 play as Quests start in your hand
- Upgraded hero power will eventually finish your opponent due to the overwhelming damage even if you get unlucky
How To Get Fire Plume’s Heart:
Unlock through buying Wild card packs, Journey to Un’Goro card packs, or card crafting
20. Bloodreaver Gul’dan (Warlock)
A bargain forged in blood and shadow.
Along with flooding the board with demons, Bloodreaver Gul'dan also upgrades your hero power and significantly increases your health sustain.
What’s Great About Bloodreaver Gul’dan:
- Very impactful Battlecry for Control Warlock decks that run big demons such as Voidlord and Doomguard
- Your hero power causes a 6 health swing every turn, providing you with much-needed healing
- Late game last-ditch card for aggressive Warlock decks thanks to Zoo decks running plenty of demons
How To Get Bloodreaver Gul’dan:
Unlock through buying Wild card packs, Knights of the Frozen Throne card packs, or card crafting
19. Galakrond, the Nightmare (Rogue)
Darken the skies, my nightmare reigns.
The only Galakrond card to make it in this list, Rogue’s version for Galakrond is the best card draw effect you can ever get. But this effect is only secondary when compared to its hero power of generating a lackey.
Making good use of the Discover effects, these lackeys can be a source of value for Rogue to push the tempo and become a true nightmare for the enemy.
What’s Great About Galakrond, the Nightmare:
- Best hand refill card for Rogue since it makes your drawn cards cost 0 mana
- Draconic and Ethereal Lackey refuels your hand with powerful cards to close out games if you are a Tempo Rogue
- Provides a high-attack weapon when used, allowing you to extend your advantage
How To Get Galakrond, the Nightmare:
Given upon owning a Descent of Dragons card pack, whether it is a free pack or bought in the Shop
18. Yogg-Saron, Hope’s End (Mage)
Bow down before the God of Death.
Clowned on as the meme card amongst the Old Gods, Yogg remains a fan favorite to those looking for added spice in their games.
Guess they won’t be laughing anymore when you randomly cast three Pyroblasts into their face.
What’s Great About Yogg-Saron, Hope’s End:
- Extreme RNG card that can turn around even the direst of situations
- Spells have been more geared towards targeting enemies specifically with keywords such as “targets enemy minions”
- Casts random cost spells so you can high roll a Flamestrike even if you only cast The Coin
How To Get Yogg-Saron, Hope’s End:
Unlock through buying Wild card packs, Whispers of the Old Gods card packs, or card crafting
17. Brann Bronzebeard (Neutral)
Contains 75% more fiber than his brother Magni!
A Battlecry minion’s best friend, Brann Bronzebeard has stood the test of time and remains relevant even in today’s Standard decks.
What’s Great About Brann Bronzebeard:
- Versatile effect that can fit in almost every deck
- Easy to protect by using Battlecry minions with Taunt like Sarunite Chain Gang
- 2/4 statline makes Brann awkward to remove
How To Get Brann Bronzebeard:
Automatically unlocked in the Core set for Neutral cards
16. The Caverns Below (Rogue)
Why can't it ever be The Taverns Below?
If Prince Keleseth giving +1/+1 is already backbreaking for slow decks, then The Caverns Below speeds the pace up to an 11 by making your minions 5 attack and 5 health.
Let your opponent learn the meaning of regret when the 1/1 boars they are underestimating come charging down as 5/5 heavyweights.
What’s Great About The Caverns Below:
- Can be completed on turn 2 by using bounce cards like Shadowstep on low-cost minions
- The quest reward can be discounted with Preparation since it is a spell
- Minions with Charge like Southsea Deckhand turns the quest reward into an OTK threat
How To Get The Caverns Below:
Unlock through buying Wild card packs, Journey to Un’Goro card packs, or card crafting
15. Archmage Antonidas (Mage)
You require my assistance?
Antonidas and his effect are not powerful by any means. Most of this minion’s power comes from being supported by spell discount effects like Sorcerer’s Apprentice. Rest assured that when Antonidas gets going, an endless stream of Fireballs will burn your enemy down.
What’s Great About Archmage Antonidas:
- The Antonidas OTK Mage deck can be activated with any spell cast such as The Coin, providing you a Fireball spell
- Even without spell discounts, using Antonidas purely as a value generator is still a viable strategy to slowly chip at your opponent’s HP
- Incredibly large threat once protected by Taunt minions
How To Get Archmage Antonidas:
Unlock through buying Classic card packs or card crafting
14. Open the Waygate (Mage)
Although powerful, the incantation is simple. It’s just a jump to the left, and then a step to the right.
The most recognizable quest and maybe card in Hearthstone thanks to content creators like Disguised Toast popularizing the Quest Mage archetype.
What’s Great About Open the Waygate:
- One of the easier quests to complete as there is more random spell generation in Wild
- Many different variations of a one-turn kill can be achieved even without the Archmage Antonidas combo
- Hard to disrupt your next turn as you have full control of when to activate your quest reward
How To Get Open the Waygate:
Unlock through buying Wild card packs, Journey to Un’Goro card packs, or card crafting
13. Malygos (Neutral)
I am the essence of magic!
The ruler of magic has such a simple yet overloaded effect: giving you +5 spell damage.
Sure, a 15 damage Pyroblast might not seem that much different but having your Moonfires and Mind Blast deal significantly more damage is when this card shows its true prowess.
What’s Great About Malygos:
- 4/12 in stats makes Malygos hard to remove from the board
- 9 mana cost lets you play a damage spell such as Moonfire on the turn that Malygos is summoned
- Dragon synergy gives you a chance to discover Malygos to stack the spell damage
How To Get Malygos:
Unlock through buying Classic card packs or card crafting
12. Deathstalker Rexxar (Hunter)
The eternal hunt has begun.
Rexxar returns from the dead with a lot of chimeras and a lot more value.
What’s Great About Deathstalker Rexxar:
- Ultimate minion generation card that can be played as early as turn 5
- Gives Hunter some avenues to heal by creating lifesteal minions
- Midrange board clear by dealing 2 damage to all enemy minions
How To Get Deathstalker Rexxar:
Unlock through buying Wild card packs, Knights of the Frozen Throne card packs, or card crafting
11. Hadronox (Druid)
The viziers of Azjol-Nerub released Hadronox as a last-ditch effort to hold back the Lich King. They did so by VERY carefully scooping him up in a LARGE newspaper and releasing him.
I’ve never been much of an arachnophobe but Hadronox still puts the fear of spiders in me. You just know that when this spider descends from their web, the next sight you will see is a wall of unpassable Taunt minions ready to crush your hopes of winning.
What’s Great About Hadronox:
- Resurrects Taunt minions with their base health so minions like Damaged Stegotron can be cheated out as a big minion
- Usually the only beast minion in a Druid deck so it can be resummoned with Witching Hour
- Ideal Deathrattle minion to be summoned after Spiritsinger Umbra to create wave after wave of Taunt minions
How To Get Hadronox:
Unlock through buying Wild card packs, Knights of the Frozen Throne card packs, or card crafting
10. Aviana (Druid)
Call her "Tweety". She'll find it real funny. I PROMISE.
Aviana reigned as the strongest card of Hearthstone for so long that many players still clamor for her to be removed even in her post-nerf state.
That’s not without reason, as there are still dozens and hundreds of videos showing how terrifying this winged demigod can be when she is on the battlefield.
What’s Great About Aviana:
- Consistent OTK deck when paired with Kun and Malygos
- The weakness of costing 10 mana can be solved by having an Innervate or The Coin
- Hard to disrupt as Druid decks often have a lot of cards on hand
How To Get Aviana:
Unlock through buying Wild card packs, The Grand Tournament card packs, or card crafting
9. Baku the Mooneater (Neutral)
I will silence their screams.
Odd ones are in while Even is out!
Turns out that a better hero power providing more fuel is much preferred than a cheaper hero power for those games that go the distance.
Genn’s case is also not helped by the arguably worse card pool of even cards. Yikes!
What’s Great About Baku the Mooneater:
- Big 7/8 minion on its own and serves as a Beast synergy target
- Odd-cost hero powers provide too much value to ignore for certain classes like Warlock
- More consistent than even decks as an odd deck’s mana curve plays well versus aggressive decks
How To Get Baku the Mooneater:
Unlock through buying Wild card packs, The Witchwood card packs, or card crafting
8. Twig of the World Tree (Druid)
For druids who want to branch out.
Another iconic mana refresh tool for Druid since using just 10 mana per turn seems to be not enough for them.
This Druid weapon still serves as a crucial component for all control Druid decks even throughout the years, proving that there’s no issue that can’t be solved with a good whack from your trusty stick.
What’s Great About Twig of the World Tree:
- The mana crystals gained from this card’s Deathrattle are filled mana crystals which add and refill all used mana crystals
- Destroying the Twig with another weapon like Sphere of Sapience triggers the Deathrattle effect
- Destroying your weapon can be controlled so you can make the most of the refreshed mana
How To Get Twig of the World Tree:
Unlock through buying Wild card packs, Kobolds and Catacombs card packs, or card crafting
7. Prince Keleseth (Neutral)
Truth is found in death.
Every game was decided by who got to summon their Keleseth first back when Prince Keleseth was in meta. Such sights are rare nowadays because Zephrys is the preferred 2-drop minion for many.
Despite that, Prince Keleseth still shines in token decks by buffing your minions early on and finishing the game before the enemy even knows what is going on.
What’s Great About Prince Keleseth:
- High winrate for almost all decks when summoned exactly on turn 2 due to the powerful buff that persists all game
- Very strong card for Rogue since Keleseth’s Battlecry can be recast with Shadowstep
- Slots very well into an aggressive minion-heavy deck or a Highlander deck
How To Get Prince Keleseth:
Unlock through buying Wild card packs, Knights of the Frozen Throne card packs, or card crafting
6. Patches the Pirate (Neutral)
What do sailors yell when Patches steals their treasure chest full of laws and other things being transported to parliament for a vote? "The Eyes have it!"
No card has been as oppressive as Patches the Pirate was in his heyday. A free 1/1 on turn 1 while also thinning out your deck is an unmatched utility that remains relevant even today.
What’s Great About Patches the Pirate:
- Pirate-based decks have a lot of 1-cost minions so you can consistently summon out Patches on turn 1
- Cheating out Patches thins out your deck and ensures that you draw better/more impactful cards
- Pirate synergy with small stats means that Patches is often overlooked and allows you to buff him
How To Get Patches the Pirate:
Unlock through buying Wild card packs, Mean Streets of Gadgetzan card packs, or card crafting
5. Shadowreaper Anduin (Priest)
The Light has betrayed me!
Anduin’s darker side packs a better punch than his priestly counterpart.
Oftentimes the other half of Raza Priest, this card clears away the big threats before you unleash your barrage of void bullets.
What’s Great About Shadowreaper Anduin:
- Great turnaround card with the Battlecry of destroying all big minions
- Maximizes the effect of Raza the Chained by allowing you to cast your hero power multiple times per turn
- Scales really well with cards such as Prophet Velen and Clockwork Automaton
How To Get Shadowreaper Anduin:
Unlock through buying Wild card packs, Knights of the Frozen Throne card packs, or card crafting
4. Raza the Chained (Priest)
"Could you do me a favor and get the keys from Kazakus?"
Possibly the most versatile card printed for Priest, Raza adds so much variety in terms of your deck building.
Most Priest cards already function well as a one-off, making the restriction not that overbearing.
One thing to note, remember to use your hero power every turn after you play Raza (coming from someone who DEFINITELY did not forget to use his hero power)
What’s Great About Raza the Chained:
- Permanently makes your hero power cost 0 mana even if you use hero cards or upgrade your hero power
- Guaranteed OTK when Coldarra Drake is summoned and your hero is on Voidform
- Raza Priest is a top-tier meta deck in Wild, being almost always tier 1 or tier 2 due to how powerful Raza’s effect is when combined with Shadowreaper Anduin
How To Get Raza the Chained:
Unlock through buying Wild card packs, Mean Streets of Gadgetzan card packs, or card crafting
3. Loatheb (Neutral)
Loatheb used to be a simple Bog Beast. This is why we need stricter regulations on mining and agriculture.
There’s no wonder why this more than 8 year old card is still popular in Wild if you look at its effect. Loatheb can completely lock down your enemy’s spell, becoming the bane of spell-heavy decks.
What’s Great About Loatheb:
- Protects your board and minions as most high-cost spells aim to damage minions
- Repeating Loatheb’s Battlecry with cards like Brann Bronzebeard guarantees that the opponent’s spell cannot be used
- 5/5 statline trades favorably against other minions, ensuring your other minions survive
How To Get Loatheb:
Unlock through buying Wild card packs or card crafting. Received as a reward for completing the Curse of Naxxramas adventure
2. Zilliax (Neutral)
Unity. Precision. Perfection.
Serving as the Swiss Army knife of legendary minions, Zilliax is perfect in all decks and situations.
Zilliax is good enough on its own to be included in most decks but what truly pushes this mech to a new power level is when it is magnetized into another minion.
To this day, this card remains a powerhouse for Neutral minions, showing us all the meaning of perfection.
What’s Great About Zilliax:
- Both a great proactive and reactive card due to having Taunt, Rush, and Divine Shield
- Mech tag provides value if you have the needed synergy cards
- Great 5-mana cost minion as there are not a lot of good minions that cost 5 mana
How To Get Zilliax:
Unlock through buying Wild card packs, The Boomsday Project card packs, or card crafting
1. Zephrys the Great (Neutral)
Your wish is my suggestion.
Zephrys is and will always be the most impactful card in Hearthstone history, period.
No matter how dire your situation may be, just summon this djinn and your wish will be fulfilled.
What’s Great About Zephrys the Great:
- Provides the perfect choices of cards for your current situation by looking at many different factors
- Works as a universal tech card since it will provide the best playable card for your situation
- The condition is easy to meet since Wild has increasingly more strong cards which lets you run unique cards
- Offers damage cards such as Fireball if there is lethal, possibly giving you a hint to victory
How To Get Zephrys the Great:
Unlock through buying Wild card packs, Saviors of Uldum card packs, or card crafting
