10. First Research center
The First Research Center you find in Grounded
When you first start up the new indie game Grounded you are greeted with a new and strange environment as you explore a little bit. The first thing you find is a research center. This research center is a great place to create a base for several reasons.
What makes this spot great is the convenience
- Next to a research center, which is used a lot in the game.
- There's a cliff nearby that is flat enough to create a good base and high enough to keep most insects out.
- There are plenty of resources for you to make what you need to survive Grounded.
- This area is far away from spiders, spiders are the largest enemy in the game and this location makes it so you will rarely have to see them.
This is one of the easiest places to get to
- Go outside of the spawn location
- Follow the trail to the left and an icon will show it on your map if this is your first time playing
- After you get to the research station look to your right and you will see a good-sized cliff, that is where your base will be
9. The Baseball
Like a comet from space
You pass The Baseball when you make your way to the research center, it’s a good starting location for those who are new to the game. It’s high up so insects can’t reach it, you’re able to by climbing a stick on the side of it up to the top.
Baseball is a great spot for a starting base because it’s safe
- It’s high enough where insects can’t reach it so you don’t have to worry about ants eating your food.
- There’s only one natural access point that only players can walk up so spiders and other hostile pests won’t destroy your base while you’re exploring.
- You can extend it and make it a tower as high as you want because it has plenty of resources nearby.
- It’s located near the center of the map and high up so you can make a tower and glide down anywhere you need to go.
The Baseball is super easy to get to
- After leaving the starting area go to the left
- Before you reach the research center look to your left and you’ll see the baseball.
- Around the side of the baseball is a stick that will lead up to the top of the baseball, this is the only natural way up so it makes it super safe
8. Large stone
A mansion fit for a lord
This area is one of the largest areas to build a secure base, it’s a little tricky to get up naturally without any stairs but this area is safe from every insect and you can make a large base with a lot of room for you and your friends that you will be playing with.
This area is large, safe, and great for a base for a few reasons
- It’s flatter than most areas in the game and makes it simple to make a base on it.
- It's off of the ground so insects can’t get to it or destroy your base.
- The large area of it makes it great for a late-game base that you can make a home.
- You have stronger resources all around to make a strong sturdy base.
It’s a little ways away from the main research station.
- At the top left of the map, there are a large group of stones.
- If you hop up on stones you'll be on top of a large stone with plenty of space to make a mansion for yourself and your friends.
7. Patio
A fortress for the king
This shaded area is near the bottom middle of the map with a few large stones that are high enough that insects won’t bother you and is out of the way of any hostile pests, it has dandelions nearby as well as grass and plenty of other resources to build smaller bases that link together. If you’re a little more daring you can build directly onto the porch like a spider would with its web.
The stones are great for many smaller bases for you and your friends
- There are plenty of stones in this area so you and your friends can build your rooms with your own styles.
- The puddles nearby offer a limitless amount of water that you can clean to quench your thirst in the game.
- There are dandelions around you that are used to make sturdy walls and frames if you want to build your base higher or on the porch.
- There is a natural mushroom farm nearby under the porch so you’ll never run out of food for the tummy.
This area is near the porch and can be found on the bottom of the map.
- Head down to the bottom right of the map and you'll see the patio.
- If you head to the left side of the patio you'll see a group of rocks that can each have a home placed on it where insects won't bother you.
- On the patio, you can build under it with a natural roof and wall in the back area.
6. The Oak Fence
Getting the high ground
This area is near a spider nest so it’s not the best for a new player but if you’re daring you can build on the post of this fence to build a safe base that can be expanded to each post along the fence. There are lots of resources and constant trials at this location if you want to have your metal tested by the strongest creatures in the game.
This is great if you’re down for a challenge
- The spiders at the base of this sight will test your metal and give you great loot if you vanquish them.
- The top of the post of the fence is tall so insects won’t reach you and you can fight spiders on your terms.
- There are resources all around here ripe for the picking, just be wary of the spiders who lurk there.
- You’re nearby the oak tree, where the main quest takes place, as well as great resources for armor, equipment, and base building.
This is a little farther out than most, but you need to head this way for the main quest in the game. The fence post is near the top middle area as shown on the map.
The way to a great place
5. The pond
Beachfront property
This is exactly what you’d think, you build your base in the middle of the pond. If you build from the edge of the pond out you’ll be able to be safe from everything that would harm you as well as build a super cool base. You can finally live out your dream of living on beachfront property.
This area is super neat and safe
- In the middle of the river, no insects can reach you and steal your food.
- You’re surrounded by water you can clean so you’ll never be thirsty again.
- This area is going to play a large role in the future of the game so if you build here you’ll be set when the game gets more updates.
- You get to have a beachfront property and swim whenever you want.
This area isn’t hard to get to but you need to be safe because if you go too close to the edges there are stink bugs and spiders that can kill with one attack if you’re daring go towards the flower petals on the map and stay safe explorers.
- Near the Great Oak, there's a wet swamp area go around the side and you'll see flower petals in the distance.
- Head towards the flowers and you'll see the pond.
- From the edge of the pond build water foundations to make a base in the water that insects can't reach.
4. Bird Bath
Taking a bath with the birds
Near the birdbath, there is a stone wall that is elevated so that insects can’t reach you which is always great. This is the only area to get berries that are used to make tier two armors and gear as well as a super comfy berry chair.
This area is going to be playing a big part in the story in Grounded
- This area is the only place to get berries that are needed for better gear.
- You can build a base upon the birdbath to get a bird’s eye view of the vast and amazing world of Grounded.
- The sprinklers were on around here and made the area swampy so you’ll have plenty of water and the berries will sate your sweet tooth and fill your belly.

3. The Hedge
Over the hedge
Over by the sprinkler, there is a hedge you’re able to explore that has plenty of nasty creatures inside that will give you a challenge. Along this hedge, there is a large root that you can build up on to elevate yourself to stay safe.
This area is great for hunting insects that don’t spawn at other places.
- Insects over here are dangerous but you’ll need them to get some of the strongest gear in the game.
- You’re near the swamp area so you’ll have water that you can clean.
- Nearby some berries can fall that you can harvest.
- The hedge lab is near here that is needed for a quest in the future of the game.

2. The lamp
Scoping the lamp
This is near the oak tree and is another great spot, it gives off light and is high enough to keep insects out and far away from your base.
This place is great for the natural light is great and doesn’t attract moths in this game.
- The lamp is high enough to keep you safe from insects and pests.
- The lamp is flat so you can build around it and not have to worry about light because it illuminates any home.
- The area below the lamp has plenty of resources to build your house as wide as you’d like with plenty of food and water.
The lamp is close to the oak tree so if you find the Great Oak tree you just need to look up and around for the lamp, to get up there are two sticks propped on the side of it you can walk up.
- After you find the oak tree look around the roots to see the lamp
- Once you see it find the two twigs that lead up to it and you can start building
1. Great Oaktree
The Great tree of Oak
This area is nearly perfect. It has everything you could need, water droplets, acorns for acorn bits, grass for building, plant fiber, clovers, and plenty of insects to fight.
This place has a few flaws but is one of the greatest that is on the list.
- There is an anthill nearby that you can go into that has plenty of ants and ladybugs to get ladybug armor and ant armor.
- The spiders nearby attack the ants so they’ll leave you and your base alone.
- There are plenty of resources nearby to build your base high up on the roots.
- There are acorns for food and water droplets that drop nearby.
- The main quest area is here so you’ll be ready for every update that will come for the amazing, wonderful indie game Grounded.
You come here later in the game but if you want to find it before the game tells you to follow the map to the Great Oak beacon and stay safe as you play this great game.
How to reach the Great Oak
