The Breach Cutter is a very interesting and unique weapon. It’s an unlockable secondary weapon for the Engineer that will shoot a laser blade forward, dealing damage to everything it passes through. This makes this weapon great at clearing swarms, especially with the builds we will present! Even though this is the main function of this weapon, don’t shy away from its single target damage; these blades will deal damage for every tick they come into contact with an enemy, meaning that bigger targets will take great amounts of punishment. We recommend pairing this weapon with the Born Ready perk, due to its long reload times. The Breach Cutter is essential in every Engineer’s Arsenal, and we curated the best builds you can take down the caves.
3. Stronger Plasma Current
This is a simple build for a complex weapon. We’ve made this build considering the amount of damage the Breach Cutter can deal, and this clean overclock will essentially pick up the strengths of the weapon and make them even stronger. There isn’t much to say about this build, except that it’s reliable, flexible and deals a ton of damage.
What Stronger Plasma Current Excels In?
- This is an extremely flexible build, letting you adjust the perks to your playstyle.
- You can take this build to any mission, making it reliable in any situation.
- We’re using a clean overclock, which means that there are only upsides.
Use This Build If…
- You want simple yet effective builds.
- You prefer not having any downsides to your overclock of choice.
- You like to tinker around with the perks without gimping the weapon too much.
Build details
Prolonged Power Generation: As previously mentioned, this build is very flexible. We like to take this perk so that the beam is able to travel further before collapsing.
Condensed Plasma: It’s a theme that we like more damage, and this is no exception.
Quick Deploy: This perk will let the plasma blade deploy faster, letting you deal damage to closer enemies.
Disruptive Frequency Tuning: The Breach Cutter has innate armor breaking, so we take the increased stun chance in this tier.
Triple Split Line: Triple Split Line will let you fire 3 blades at once, which will be able to touch more targets since it will cover a taller area.
Overclock - Stronger Plasma Current: This overclock increases the beam DPS and projectile lifetime.
- +50 Beam DPS
- +0.5s Projectile Lifetime
2. Inferno
Cook your enemies with this one simple trick! Inferno will make the Breach Cutter apply Heat to any enemies that come into contact with the laser blade, upping the damage potential of this weapon. This DPS increase will take this weapon to the next level, destroying anything it comes into contact with! This build has some flexible points, so you can adjust it to your own playstyle and needs. Laser cutting was never this cool!
What Inferno Excels At?
- This build is all about DPS, since Heat damage can burn enemies.
- This build will also feature other area clearing perks, making this weapon a fantastic swarm killer.
- You’ll still be able to adjust the build to your needs.
Use This Build If…
- You want maximum area of effect potential for the Breach Cutter.
- You enjoy dealing tons of damage to lots of enemies.
- You want a build that is adjustable to many situations.
Build Details
Prolonged Power Generation: This perk will increase the projectile’s lifetime, letting it travel for longer.
Loosened Node Cohesion: We aren’t taking damage this time (surprisingly). This perk will widen the blade, letting it hit more targets horizontally.
Quick Deploy: This perk will deploy the blade faster, hitting enemies up close.
Disruptive Frequency Tuning: In this specific case, you can take armor breaking if you want. We like to take the stun chance for some utility.
Plasma Trail: Plasma Trail will leave behind residual plasma that will deal damage to anything that comes into contact with.
Overclock - Inferno: This overclock will add Heat damage to your laser blades, while decreasing the beam DPS and reduce the armor breaking capabilities of this weapon.
- +Inferno: Apart from doing damage, the line will also deal Heat every second, the Heat is 90% of the DPS value. In addition to the usual 50 Fire damage on first contact with a creature, the line will deal 75 Heat. The creatures touched by the line have a hidden DoT applied that deals 7 Heat and 7 Fire damage every 0.5 seconds for 5 seconds.
- -175 Beam DPS
- x0.25 Armor Breaking
1. Return to Sender
When we play with our friends, we like to call this the “funny” build. Return to Sender basically lets you boomerang back the blade, which can cause mayhem amongst your squad. This might sound like a bad gimmick, but it can potentially double the DPS of this weapon. When you shoot a blade, hold down the trigger. When you release it, the blade will return, dealing damage to anything it passes through. With enough practice, you can have a blade hit twice on any enemy, essentially doubling your damage. Don’t mind the complaints of your squad; all you’ll care about is to kill everything in sight!
What Return to Sender Excels At?
- This build is tailored to deal a lot of damage to high priority targets!
- It’s still a flexible build which you can cater to your necessities.
- It’s extremely fun to use and it’s very satisfying to watch your beam mowing down enemies when it’s returning.
Use This Build If…
- You want a strong build that is suitable for all situations.
- You want to cause mayhem when your squad is fighting a swarm of bugs.
- You want a fantastic boss killing weapon in your loadout.
Build details
Prolonged Power Generation: We like to take this perk so that when we boomerang the laser blade black, it lasts for longer.
Loosened Node Cohesion: More width means more mayhem. You can also take the damage perk in this tier.
Quick Deploy: Quick Deploy will help you shoot bugs that are up close.
Disruptive Frequency Tuning: As explained before, the Breach Cutter has innate armor breaking, so we take the stun chance in this tier.
Plasma Trail: All three perks in this tier are great to pick. We take Plasma Trail so that we can coat an area with some nasty area of effect damage. If you’re fighting bosses, Triple Split Line is the best one to take.
Overclock - Return to Sender: This overclock will let you call back your blade, at the cost of maximum ammo capacity.
- +Return to Sender: When you hold down the trigger, the plasma beam will emerge from the breach cutter like normal. When you release the trigger, the beam will reverse. This is very useful because you can deal twice the damage with one beam. If you want to spam fire or fire the weapon normally, you have to tap the trigger. This will cause the beam to continue its path until it breaks, like without the Overclock.
- -6 Max Ammo
