Find out which attributes to upgrade first and get maximum experience out of Days Gone.

Days Gone is a game about smashing zombies, killing hordes and riding your bike at the heart of Oregon. But if you know what to do first and what to focus on during the game, you can get up to speed and get the most out of Days Gone, fast!

The following attributes don’t break the game by making it too easy, but instead they act to make Days Gone a tad easier while still keeping the challenge.

Using his stamina to get on his bike faster, Deacon sure did escape from Freaker Wolf!

What are attributes and how does it work in days gone?

The attributes in general is, to make a character who does have access to a particular item, weapon or skill to be better or worse at using it based on his attribute points.

There are 3 types of attribute types to upgrade for Deacon St. John to get, and increase his chances of getting some leverage over those freaks. Stamina, Focus and Health. Each of these are obtained by going to NERO checkpoints / places in the game.

Don’t worry, the game will give you a mission at the start to get to one of the NERO checkpoints. You need to enter one of the trailers (don’t forget to take off the speakers on top of the roofs in the area and power on the trailer with gas!) and then,

As a player, you can choose what to inject. Yeah! you heard that right. Inject Deacon with (god knows what’s in it) the chemical fluids to enhance the attribute.

Checking out which attribute to inject Deacon with. Any ideas on what I picked?

Stamina –

Stamina seems like a pretty explanatory thing when it comes to its definition, but what it exactly means in days gone? Well, this attribute is required to boost for a moment on Deacon’s sprinting mechanic.

This attribute will help to avoid some swarmers, wolves and bears etc. to run away if you’re low on health or don’t have enough ammo or weapons to do a ranged/melee attack.

The stamina bar gets depleted while you’re using (aka by holding the L3 key down) and it runs out after a few seconds while you’re sprinting.

You can use the NERO injections to add attribute points to stamina so that it increases the time of depleting the stamina bar while use.

Focus -

Now this is a bit interesting choice in the game! During the game, you may encounter some minor details of the reticle’s point in the game, as it would be off if you try and take perfect headshots with a crappy gun (guns with low accuracy).

So, if you’re unable to find a good gun in the game early on, you can boost this attribute to make your crappy guns take excellent and accurate headshots. The more points you spend here, the better the accuracy of not-so-good guns.

Good use if you ask me! Especially if you want to take down some rippers with your 9mm or something or you can’t spend enough cash / trust levels at camps’ merchant locations.

Health –

What do you think is the most important part of a zombie apocalypse? Heck, a game in general for a player? Well, it's obvious isn’t it? Yeah! Its health points gamer!

Deacon can improve his health bar and expand it to ensure that he won't die with a single hit from a breaker. Trust me, you’ll need all the health you can get to take THAT guy in the game later on.

Also, don’t forget that you’ll need to take on hordes for your future missions! You can spend all the points here if you’re not bothered to go for others and mostly if you want to take down enemies with your fist and not care about how much blood you lose along the way.

Can you max out attributes in the game? How exactly?

The attributes in days gone for each is 10 points as max, and each point is obtained by collecting the injectors and injecting them with the attribute of your choice for Deacon.

Although, I can say that there is no order on what attribute you get first, since you can max them out in the game for all of them, if you try hard enough to find all NERO checkpoints.

But some of the attributes can be even further enhanced through some skill points within the game. Skills like “Juice Up”, “Busted up” and “Just roll with it'' have an effect on improving the Stamina attribute.

Skills like “Focus shot”, “Fight and Flight”, “Crowd Control”, “Under Pressure” and “Dead Shot” helps Deacon with more focus.

Finally, with Skills like “Head rush”, “Alchemist”, “Shape Up” and “Six-Feet Over” will help Deacon to regenerate health faster and/or boost them.

What Attributes to Get First?

Get a first hand look at maxed out attributes

First the Stamina Attribute –

  • When you’re low on health and you’re just starting this zombie/freaker infested world, the stamina bar will help you buy some sweet time by sprinting away from danger.
  • I have no guns or ammo, what do I do? Use stamina. Trust me, if there’s a massive horde like the saw-mill in those early E3 trailers, you need all the stamina to evade those freaks of mass.
  • Get this attribute maxed up as much as you can, because certain missions would definitely make you go running for it!

Second, Health Attribute –

  • A few missions in the game introduces mini-boss / class of enemies, you need as much health as possible because you can’t just run away from them.
  • Fighting hordes and you got stuck? Good thing you got some big health bar to spare...! Seriously, this is really gonna come to play if you get stuck by a lag or something.
  • Do you hate rippers as much as I do? You just want to go full on melee on those darn rippers for satisfaction? Then add points to this attribute second, so you can run, and then smack without worrying too much on health.

Lastly, Focus Attribute –

  • You might be thinking, why is this number 3? Cause I gotta say, you can achieve some decent focus later on in the game with higher accuracy weapons, but it's not a higher priority in my opinion at the start.
  • You need “Focus shot” skill to enable the so-called focus meter on. Since it’s the first skill on the ranged combat class, it isn’t difficult to gain it.
  •  Focus is only available for a short time like stamina depletion, so you only have to use it when you really need it! (Like big hordes only!). So, you rarely need a use of this attribute. But it's very effective for its short time.
