What are the coolest mounts to flaunt around Eorzea?
Popular MMORPG Final Fantasy 14 offers players the ability to customize their Warrior of Light with various creative mounts. Whether you want an edgy mount to match your Dark Knight aesthetic, a fun and crazy-looking mount to complement your fat chocobo outfit, or a multiple seater so you can chauffeur your lower level friends around Eorzea, FF14 has the mount for you. This list highlights some of the coolest and most badass mounts in the game at the moment. The purchasable mounts on Mogstation didn’t make it onto the list since those can be pricey, and I left out the seasonal mounts that are no longer obtainable. But, without further ado, here’s the top ten most awesome FF14 mounts and how to get them.
10) Kirin
Kirin in flight
Standing at number 10 on our list, we have Kirin, a beautiful horse-like creature said to be the ruler of the beasts. Regardless of your class or level, Kirin gives your character a regal and powerful look.
Why Kirin is an awesome mount:
- Kirin is a gorgeous mount with its black scales and glowing golden mane and tail
- A dramatic, head-turning mount
- Bragging rights for having beat Extreme Trials and obtaining all the Nightmare mounts
How to get the mount:
- Must complete “A Legend for a Legend” quest by talking to Wandering Minstrel in Mor Dhona.
- To trigger the quest, you have to obtain all the Nightmare mounts: Aithon, Xanthos, Gullfaxi, Enbarr, Markab, and Boreas, which drop as rewards in their respective Extreme Trials
9) Mikoshi
The Mikoshi is one of those silly mounts, but it’s still nifty in design and a fan favorite. Featuring eight adorable Namazu carrying a mikoshi shrine on their shoulders, this mount is fairly easy to obtain.
Why Mikoshi is an awesome mount:
- Riding on a portable shrine, you’re basically a god of the Namazu!
- I mean, just look at those little guys
- Silliness aside, the mikoshi itself is beautifully detailed and would pair well with a Doma inspired outfit
How to get the mount:
- Tradable from Gyosho in the Azim Steppe for 20 Namazu Koban
- Namazu Koban can be obtained from the Namazu beast tribe quests

8) Nightmare
While this mount shares the same title as the Nightmare mounts dropped in certain Extreme Trials, the Nightmare mount is rarer and more impressive . The Ascians were fabled to have given this savage and untamable creature to the beast tribes for unknown reasons.
Why the Nightmare is awesome:
- It’s a stunning jet black horse with red eyes and a glowing golden horn
- Dark and enigmatic aesthetic
- Rarer than the regular Nightmare mounts
How to get the mount:
- Has a chance of dropping as a reward in Garuda (Extreme), Titan (Extreme), and Ifrit (Extreme) trials.
7) Logistics System
Introduced in 2.5 patch, the Logistics System mount is a spherical orb that the player rides atop as it whizzes through the air. Designed after the nodes in Azys Lla, the Logistics System goes past steampunk straight to a streamlined magitek aesthetic.
Why Logistics System is awesome:
- Simple in design but elegant with its glowing red runes
- Different than other mounts with its mix of magic and technology
How to get it:
- Obtain the achievement Behind Enemy Lines by gaining 200 Frontline wins with your Grand Company

6) Alte Roite
The Alte Roite is an airborne mount in the shape of a winged and colorful snake-like dragon. According to legend, Alte Roite was a powerful wizard who could take the shape of any dragon.
Why Alte Roite is awesome:
- Alte Roite’s scales are beautiful green, blue, and gold, making it a flashy and unique looking mount
- A large and foreboding mount when in the air
How to get it:
- Can be summoned with an Alte Roite Prism, which is guaranteed to drop in the Savage raid Deltascape V4.0.

5) Fenrir
Not to be confused with the SDS Fenrir mount, which is a replica of Cloud’s bike, this Fenrir is an icy hoarhound hailing from Ishgard. Previously thought to be extinct, the hoarhounds are said to be returning to Coerthas highlands after the Calamity.
Why Fenrir is awesome:
- It’s a savage and ferocious wolf-like creature
- Badass, it’s sure to impress other players
How to get it:
- Tradable from the Prize Claim Gold Saucer Attendant for 1,000,000 MGP
4) Ixion
Ixion is a beautiful mount and one of my personal favorites. Inspired by the Ixion boss in Final Fantasy 10, this horse-like creature is said to be Rhalgr’s legendary steed and possesses the power to shoot lightning from its eyes.
Why Ixion is awesome:
- The amount of detail on this massive figure is stunning
- Ixion has a gold and blue horn and is adorned by small bolts of bright blue static
- If you’re a fan of FFX, the Ixion is a must need mount
How to get it:
- Purchasable from Eschina in Rhalgr's Reach for 12 Ixion horns, which can be found in the Fate “Ixion”
3) Demi-Ozma
Demi-Ozma is possibly one of the coolest looking mounts in the entire game, and fitting for third place with its three separate forms. Its default form is a cloudy, two toned sphere, and it can shift into either the shape of a pyramid or a cube, both of which mirror its environment.
Why Demi-Ozma is awesome:
- Essentially, it’s three mounts in one depending on its form
- Looks beautiful while flying and reflecting surrounding landscapes
How to get it:
- Must complete The Baldesion Arsenal and gain the achievement We’re on Your Side I

2) Astrope
Enormous compared to most other mounts, the Astrope is an elegant white Pegasus complete with gold and silver barding. The Astrope is a beautiful mount, but there’s many other reasons why it made the number two spot.
Why the Astrope is awesome:
- Astrope is one of the few two-seaters that can be acquired in game, making it a very rare mount to add to your collection
- Bragging rights because of how difficult it is to obtain
How to get:
- Unfortunately, the Astrope is rare for a reason. You must be a mentor and complete a whooping 2,000 duties through the Mentor Duty Roulette, but this amazing mount is totally worth the grinding.
1) Skyslipper
The Skyslipper has room for one driver and three passangers
Having been abandoned and stored in the Crystal Tower by the Imperial family, the Skyslipper is a unique aircraft restored for none other than the Warrior of Light. The Skyslipper is a fairly new mount, and along with its difficulty to obtain, it is rare, but absolutely worth the effort.
Why the Skyslipper is awesome:
- It’s the only four seater mount currently available to obtain in game
- You can ride three of your friends around Eorzea at a time, showing off this rare mount
- Simple and sleek in design plus bragging rights for having master the savage version of one of the newest and most difficult raids
How to get it:
- Can be summoned by using a Skyslipper key, which is a guaranteed drop in the Savage raid Eden's Gate: Sepulture
