Most MMORPG’s use mounts as the fastest and most convenient way for players to get around. World of Warcraft is the same and boasts a roster of over 500 mounts that you can choose from. Of course each race and faction gets their own mounts as they level, but there are so many more rare and exciting ones out there. This is a list of the top 10 rarest and best looking ground mounts in the game:
10. Ravenlord

This mount sure looks cool... But it can't fly
The Ravenlord is, believe it or not, only a ground mount. This massive bird might have had its wings clipped or something as a child because it can’t fly. Either that or your toon is too heavy. Looking at you Tauren!
A similar mount was handed out to anyone who bought the collector’s edition of Warlord’s of Draenor, but that can’t be included in this list. We are looking specifically at mounts you can get in the game. This mount is dropped by Anzu in the Sethekk Halls dungeon on heroic mode. The drop rate is incredibly low so you have to get lucky.
9. White Polar Bear

Will you spend countless hours in Stormpeaks for this mount?
You might have gotten the Armored Brown Bear, or the Black War Bear, or even the Amani War Bear… But have you spent a year and a half farming for the White Polar Bear? The White Polar Bear is incredibly rare and held only by a few who were willing to do the Storm Peak daily’s in Northrend every single day.
The quests can be picked up in Brunnhildar village and awards you with the Hyldnir Spoils bag. The bag has a very small chance of containing the mount. Of course you could always try the black market or hope that you get one as your random dungeon reward.
8. Azure Water Strider

How much do you like fishing?
While this mount is not particularly rare, it needs to be included simply because of how popular it is and the convenience it gives you. Unless you’re a Shaman, Death Knight, or a Warlock you probably hate walking across bodies of water. Swimming takes a long time unless you’re a druid in travel form.
The Azure Water Strider is a mount that can ride on top of the water, and it can take you anywhere you need to go in a jiffy. It is a bug though so if that grosses you out you’re out of luck.
This mount requires you to be exalted with Nat Pagle and his Angler faction. That means that you need to get your fishing rod ready and head out to Pandaria for more daily quests.
7. Reigns of Poseidus

With this mount it starts feeling like you're in the Little Mermaid or something
If riding on the back of a water strider creeps you out then there is still another option for you to get around aquatic environments faster. The Reigns of Poseidus was released due to the popularity of the Vash’jir Sea Horse mount that all players got. Unlike that sea horse though, the Reigns of Poseidus can be used in any body of water.
The mount drops from Poseidus who is a rare in the Shimmering Expanse. So drop what you’re doing, head over there, and start farming.
6. Grey Riding Camel

What day is it? It is HUMPDAY!!!
You can buy most camels from a vendor in Uldum after a long reputation grind if you really want, but if you want to stand out you have to find the Grey Riding Camel.
This is one of the most tedious and difficult mounts to obtain in the game. You have to find a hidden figurine that spawns randomly in the vast desert. Click on the figurine and you get transported to meet Dormus the Camel-Horder. Kill him as the cold blooded monster you are and walk away with a brand new camel and the title of Camel-Horder.
5. Traveler’s Tundra Mammoth

While this mount is in league with the Water Strider in that half the WoW population has one, it is still a very important mount. First off, not only is this mount super massive and awesome looking, but it also comes with a vendor and repair NPC on it. If you’re in a raid you can pop this up and repair your gear without having to teleport out.
This is sold by Mei Francis in Dalaran for 20,000 gold. It is rather expensive, but it is worth it. Reputation and vendor discounts do apply though so it is possible to get the price down to 14,000.
4. The Horseman’s Reigns

This is definitely one of the coolest horses in the game! You kill the Headless Horseman and steal his horse… It’s kind of cold but then again, the guy was a murdering monster right? The horse likes you better anyways.
The mount is incredibly rare because you can only get it by killing the Horseman during Wow’s Halloween event that they hold annually. So for a week or two you can farm as much as you want. If it doesn’t drop you have to wait another year.
3. The Sea Turtle

This mount is slow on land and just a little faster than you in water, but it is a symbol of your hard work and dedication to Wow. In order to get this little turtle you have to be willing to spend week’s fishing in Northrend or Cataclysm fishing pools.
The chance of catching this mount is abysmally small, but there are those who claim it can be done. It is extremely rare that you will ever see another player riding around on this mount.
2. Fossilized Raptor

How this mount works is beyond me
Many players hate leveling Archeology as it is, but with this mount as incentive, many have completed the grueling task. When you complete an artifact, a new one randomly spawns for you to work on. So in order to get more artifacts you have to complete the one’s you currently have first.
The Fossilized raptor has a very small chance of appearing as a new artifact recipe, but it means that every time it doesn’t, you need to complete another artifact to get it out of the way.
All in all, this mount can be insanely time consuming to farm. When you get it it’ll all be worth it though! You can ride around on your skeleton raptor and assert your dominance over all the casuals who play the game.
1. Ultramarine Qiraji Battle Tank

Like the fossilized Raptor, this is also a mount gained from Archeology. It is just as tedious and takes just as long to farm. However, this mount is one of the coolest and most awesome looking ground mounts in the game.
You ride around on the back of a massive Qiraji battle tank, what is not to love? These bugs are ferocious and terrifying, and so are you when you are riding it.
