E3 is the biggest gaming event of the year. Here's what to expect this June

E3 is the biggest gaming event of the year and its getting closer every day. There’s only a month left until the big day and there’s already plenty of game leaks and speculation about what’s going to happen this year.

The big players Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo will all have their presentations of course, with Microsoft having a new shiny console to show off and Sony’s Playstation 4 still riding hard. Nintendo’s Switch console had a strong start at launch and the means to keep going. The large publishers like EA, Bethesda and Ubisoft will also be announcing the line-up of new games planned for the next couple years.

A big change is that the show is now officially open to the public although Expo passes are long sold out. The show kicks off on Tuesday, June 13th and ends Thursday, June 15th, but it really starts on Saturday, June 10th with EA’s press conference. The current line up is as follows:

Saturday, June 10th: EA, 12PM PDT

Sunday, June 11th: Microsoft 2PM PDT, Bethesda 7PM PDT

Monday, June 12th: Sony 6PM PDT

Ubisoft and Nintendo have yet to be confirmed, but Ubisoft traditionally holds its conference on Monday afternoon and Nintendo is expected to show on Tuesday morning.

What to expect?

As usual EA will focus strongly on their line-up of popular sports and racing games as well as Star Wars, including a new FIFA and Madden and Battlefront 2. Bioware’s new game, codenamed “Dylan,” will be revealed. Microsoft will focus on its updated Xbox One, known as Project Scorpio, and likely a line-up of games that will benefit from the machine’s 4k capability and extra tech. There’s not much known for certain about Bethesda, but the hope is for some big news about other popular games (I’m hoping for a new Elder Scrolls). Rumors point to a sequel to The Evil Within.

Sony already bombarded us with new hardware last year, so it’s likely that they’ll focus on the stream of big titles they have planned including the new God of War, The Last of Us: Part Two and the ever enigmatic Death Stranding. Ubisoft may address the leaked news of a new Assassin’s Creed game set in Egypt, and perhaps even the rumors of a Western-themed Far Cry. No doubt they’ll have plenty of open-world and multiplayer based game news for us.

Nintendo’s new console is doing great and E3 is the perfect opportunity for Nintendo to continue building that momentum with new additions to their classic franchises. Popular sports games are also going to be available on the console, including the new FIFA and Madden games, with hopefully more to follow.

Whatever happens, this year is bound to be exciting.
