RPG (Role Playing Game) refers to the game in which players assume the roles of characters in a fictional setting. Players are responsible to carry out these roles through decision making, questing and character development.
With thousands of RPG games in the market it can be quite intimidating to choose which you should play.
Look no further, here I give you 15 of the best RPGs worth playing in 2016.
15. South Park : Stick of Truth

Story
A “new kid” moves to South Park and befriends Butters, Princess Kenny and Cartman. He is nicknamed the douchebag by the locale. The new kid is introduced to the stick of truth. Shortly after which the stick of truth is stolen. Rephrase. It does not make sense.Done Meanwhile, many of the town`s residents are kidnapped by aliens. It is now up to you to recover the stick of truth and uncover the secret behind the aliens.
Why should you play it?
South Park : the stick of truth is based on the American adult animated television series “South Park”. The game is set in the fictional town of south park in the Colorado Rocky Mountains and you play as silent protagonist – the douchebag.
South park is one of the most hilarious game franchises to date. And if you have watched the original television series, you`d already know that. The game is played in 2.5D perspective and the player is able to choose one of the main characters types : fighter, thief, mage and jew.
It is also advisable to start this game because the sequel, South Park : Fractured But Whole, is just around the corner and is planned to be released any time in Q4 2016.

14. Fallout 4

Story
Your son was kidnapped, your spouse was murdered and you were forced into cryostasis (preserved by freezing). You wake up due to the life support system malfunctioning and find yourself to be the sole survivor of vault 111. Now it is your task to avenge your spouse and find your son.
Why should you play it?
Fallout 4 is set in post-apocalyptic Boston in the year 2287, 210 years after the nuclear war on resources. It is one of the best RPGs of 2015 and the best time to play it is 2016. Because the DLC pack for the fallout 4 is just released. The pack will include 3 DLCs namely Automatron, which was released in march, Wasteland workshop, released in April, and Far Harbor, which is yet to be released on 19th of May. So start this post-apocalyptic adventure, if you haven`t already.

13. Deus Ex-Human Revolution

Story
A mysterious and unknown mercenaries team has kidnapped several scientists, who were under Adam Jensen`s (you) protection. You tried to prevent the kidnapping, but were seriously injured in the process. Special cybernetic devices, augmentations, were fit in your body to save your life. Now it is up to you to save the kidnapped scientists and uncover the secret of the unknown mercenaries.
Why should you play it?
Deus Ex: Human revolution is a cyberpunk inspired game and takes place in 2027. You play as Adam Jensen, a security officer at Sarif industries.
It is a must play because the next installment in the franchise, mankind divided, is promised to be released on Aug 23 2016. Mankind divided will continue on with the story of Adam and you`ll get to experience the complete tale without any delays.

12. Dragon Age : Origins

Story
You are the Grey Warden of Ferelden and are chosen by Duncan, the commander of the Grey Wardens, himself. Duncan senses an Archdemon, a godlike creature, hosted in a powerful dragon, which makes him the first blight in over 400 years. The Archdemon seeks to destroy the land of Ferelden and it is now your duty to save humanity and your home.
Why should you play it?
The game takes place in Ferelden, one of the several countries in the mythical continent of Thedas. Demons known as Darkspawns dwell in the underground roads, deep beneath the surface of Thedas. Every few years they come to the surface and this is called the blight. Grey Wardens exist to tackle these blights.
This game came out back in 2009, but still remains one of our favourite RPGs. It features six strong origin stories, different races and classes and an awesome progression system. Be sure to check it out.

11. Mount and Blade

Story
There isn`t much of a storyline in this game, but most of the story is made by the player himself. There are quite a few decisions to make along the journey which impacts how the story progresses. The player can choose to be born as the son of a noble or a beggar. This impacts the starting traits of the character.
Why should you play it?
The game came out in 2008 and was praised for its innovative combat system and complex character skill system. But the most convincing reason to play mount and blade is the addition of a new game in the franchise, Mount and Blade 2 : Bannerlord, which is planned to be released in Q3 2016.

Four years have passed, eight mortal races that once stood together to protect the well of eternity against the might of the burning legion have now scattered. The peace that once held the pillars of Azeroth intact, has shattered. All the races are trying for the control on Azeroth. The land of Azeroth has once again become the world of warcraft.
Why should you play it?
World of Warcraft was first launched in 2004 and is played by millions of gamers every day, ever since. This is only because of the countless expansion packs available for the game. It is never a bad time to start WOW, but you must play it in 2016 because a new expansion pack, Legion, will be released on 30th Aug 2016.

9. Dying Light

Story
A mysterious viral breakout turns most of the populace of the city of Harran into aggressive zombies. The city has been quarantined, but a few survivors still remain, for whom supplies are periodically airdropped. Meanwhile, an important file is stolen from the Global Relief Effort (GRF) and is used to blackmail them. The file is kept in the city of Harran. GRF hires you to take the file back and rescue the survivors of the city.
Why should you play it?
Dying light is one of the best games of 2015. It`s unique parkour style gameplay is a first in an RPG. One of the reasons you must play dying light is because of the new expansion pack, the following, which was released on feb 9 2016. The expansion pack includes new weapons, new combat mechanics and a new storyline. The banner saga is a fantasy based Viking themed RPG. The player is responsible to control one of the two groups of Vikings. Differentiated by the style of banners they carry, It is the player`s responsibility to make the right decisions and bring your faction on top.
Why should you play it?
Banner saga has a unique visual style which is primarily hand drawn, from animation sequences, characters and even backgrounds. Banner saga was originally launched in 2014 and was such a huge success that a sequel is due in 2016. The Banner Saga 2 was released on 19th April 2016 and is one of the reasons you must play the original. Why should you play it?
Telling any more of the storyline will be a spoiler. Divinity : Original Sin is an awesome game with innovative level designs and enticing story. But if you don`t like the level design, the game ships with the editor it was made with and you can create your own levels and maps.

5. Pillars of Eternity
So who am I?
Story
You witness some individuals performing a ritual on a machine that can strip souls from bodies. Exposed to these energies, you become the watcher. One who can read souls and their past memories. You begin to have visions and can`t sleep at night. If this goes on you will go mad. So you set out on a journey to reverse the curse.
Why should you play it?
The game is set in the world of Eora, in a region called the eastern reach. The story of the game is truly amazing. And on top of that, a new expansion pack, The White March, was launched for the game on 19th Feb 2016. The expansion pack adds new quests, combat mechanics and a whole new storyline for the players to enjoy.

4. Kingdom Come : Deliverance

Story
The old king has died. His heir is not powerful enough to control the throne, so his brother kidnaps him and pillages his lands. You will play as the son of a blacksmith, whose family was killed by the invading army. You seek revenge and want to return peace to the war torn land.
Why should you play it?
It is the only entry on the list which is yet to be released. We are looking forward to its release in Q4 2016. It promises players historically accurate weapons, armor, combat techniques, buildings and much more.Official Trailer :
3. Dragon`s Dogma

A dragon snatches away the heart from the chest of a warrior, saying that he is the chosen one. Now, neither dead nor alive the Warrior must find his way to the dragon and kill it to end the curse. But there`s much more to the story than that.
Why should you play it?
You may not have heard of this game before, but believe me once you start playing it you`ll come to love it. The game allows the player to choose among 9 vocations : Mage, Assassin, Fighter, Strider, Warrior, Mystic Knight, Ranger, Sorcerer and Magic Archer. The game also allows different and innovative gameplay unique to each of the vocations.

The game may be 5 years old, but the community has been strong and skyrim has thousands of mods which can help you mold the game to your liking

The Witcher 3

Why should you play it?
The Witcher 3 is THE BEST game of 2015. Read our review of witcher 3 here link. Every aspect of the game seems perfect. From storytelling to combat, everything is ideal. And 2016 is the year you must start playing the game, if you haven`t already. Because apart from its native storyline, CD projekt Red has been adding content to the game regularly to give us a chance to enjoy this awesome game one more time.
CD Projekt Red is planning to launch a new expansion, Blood and Wine, on 31st of May. The expansion is said to feature a new storyline, worth 20hrs, to be added to the game. Add the side quests, and you`re getting almost 40 hours of extra content.
