War Thunder Best Russian Planes By Tier

Now we are onto the Ruskies and there’s a lot to say about their aircraft. First off they made quantity, not quality. For each airplane that the Germans or Britains made the Ruskies made 5. So it’s safe to say that their people would be jumping from their airplanes mid-flight as the engines would fail. Now, thank God this game isn’t that realistic so your engine won’t fail unless you overheat it.

What the Russian aircraft were good at is ganking people and overwhelming them with numbers. That also goes for naval and land combat. Thankfully there are a lot of choices when it comes to their aircraft and I’m here to help you out. For each tier, I’ll be listing the best two aircraft.

Tier 1

The best plane: LaGG-3-4

Another great fighter aircraft is the LaGG. It has a battle rating of 2.3 which is great for tier 1 believe it or not. Of course, the battle rating goes up with the tiers. The great thing about this aircraft is that it could be used as a bomber hunter. You could set your main goal to tilt as many bomber players as possible. This aircraft also has 3 different weapons each supporting different cannons.

The second best plane: I-29

The first of its kind and it’s a twin-engine fighter aircraft. You see if one engine fails then you have the other one to continue flying. For a tier 1 airplane, it has a top speed of 556 km/h which is quick as the devil believe it or not and it comes strapped with two 20 mm ShVAK cannons.

Tier 2

The best plane: IL-2 (1942)

Our first striker aircraft from the Soviet era and it’s a damn good aircraft. You can feel the wind going through your hair while using this plane. The plane does have a slower speed of 423 km/h but that’s the norm with striker aircraft. Their main objective is to hunt people and take them out from a distance.

The second best plane: I-301

The younger cousin of the I-29 and a much better and improved version of it. It has a battle rating of 4.0 and a top speed of 605 km/h. If you’re using this aircraft you can be so slick because nobody can catch up to you. The main point of its speed is to catch up to bombers so you can stop them from bombing your objectives.

Tier 3

The best plane: B-25J-30

If your other bomber falls this is a good substitute for it. It has a battle rating of 4.0 and a lot of high reinforced steel plates. Taking it down will be a chore for the enemy team. But don’t get it twisted you’re not immortal you can still fall if a striker catches up to you. It only has a top speed of 444 km/h but that’s a good thing. Taking things slow is the way to victory.

The second best plane: Pe-2-359

The greatest bomber aircraft from the Soviets. The battle rating of this beast is 4.7 and the best part is that it was in the game since the open beta. The bomber does come equipped with two machine guns that shoot 1000 shots per minute but that’s not the point of flying this aircraft. Your main objective is to drop bombs on objectives and annihilate the whole enemy team. Make sure that you have your team to watch your tail.

Tier 4

The best plane: Su-6 (M-71F)

The epidemy of being a Soviet pilot is when you have this aircraft. The Red Star, the green color it’s just perfect. This aircraft is sorted into the striker category and that should be your primary job with this airplane. You don’t have to do anything else except strike people down as they come. You’ll also be equipped with a cannon and a machine gun. Each weapon has its use during certain situations.

The second best plane: Yak-3 (VK-107)

Soviet fighter aircraft with a rating of 5.7. That is insane for a tier 4 aircraft. The top speed that this bad boy can reach is 715 km/h and nothing can slow it down. Even if you get shot this plane will only get faster because you have less weight on the aircraft. Its equipped with 2 x 20 mm B-20M/S cannons. They shoot at different speeds. The M one shoots at 800 shots per minute while the S shoots 750 shots per minute.

Tier 5

The best plane: La-15

Something that sounds that straight out of a barbie song is the La-15 aircraft. It’s a jet fighter that has a battle rating of 8.0. It does its job immaculately well because of its 3 x 23 mm NR-23 cannons.

The second best plane: MiG-17AS

Who doesn’t love a good old MiG aircraft? I mean they are one of the best ones in the game currently. And this one is no exception. It’s the best in its tear and it has a battle rating of 9.0. It has a top speed of 1,114 km/h and it has 3 different cannons. It’s great at demolishing whole platoons of enemies.

Tier 6

The best plane: MiG-21S (R-13-300)

Of course, it’s a MiG in tier 6 who else would it be and it is a jet fighter? Is that even a question? This MiG comes equipped with machine guns and rockets. It’s great against ground targets and it especially excels at close-quarter combat.

The second best plane: Yak-28B

Oh boy does this jet bring a lot of tears to people’s faces and I love it. The reason why people hate it is that it’s a jet bomber that has an insane top speed of 1,872 km/h. It can destroy objectives so quickly that the enemies don’t even know what hit them. It’s hard to catch and especially lock-on as this jet can outmaneuver anyone.

Tier 7

The best plane: Su-22M3

A tier 7 strike aircraft and a much younger cousin of the Su-17M2. This aircraft packs an engine from the MiG-23M. So far this aircraft has just taken everything from the best ones. Thanks to that great engine it has a speed of 2.232 km/h. And a max altitude of 19 kilometers. It also has every single weapon type for different objectives if needed.

The second best plane: MiG-27K

A lovely MiG. Who doesn’t love a MiG? Maybe Americans! This is the most advanced aircraft of the great Soviet engineering and the best part is that it doesn’t fail mid-flight. Who would have thought? It also has a targeting module in its nose. This is no wonder because look how big that thing is.
