10.Orc Slayer
Orc Slayer Gameplay
Releasing in 2015, Orc Slayer is a game about the world being overrun by Orcs. Without any overarching storyline, players only have to shoot and kill as many Orcs as they can while exploring the world. Although the game delivers on its killing orc’s gameplay, it, unfortunately, doesn’t allow players to finish the final boss fight at the end. Many also felt that the game was being too repetitive even though all you do is kill Orcs.
9. Daikatana
Daikatana Gameplay
Split into four episodes, each with different time periods, Daikatana was an FPS game focused on the story of two rival clans. With memorable characters like Superfly Johnson, the team working on this game believed it was going to be a hit. However, it seemed that this game was doomed from the start. For starters, the game was consistently delayed for months and then had a very controversial slogan to promote it. When a demo of the game was revealed at the 1999 E3, it was played at a low frame rate, damaging its likelihood of being brought. Even years later, after the head developer gave the game’s source code to the fans so that it could be salvaged, nothing could save this game.
8. Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot
Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot Gameplay
Wolfenstein: Cyber Pilot was a sequel to Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus and a prequel to Wolfenstein: Youngblood that came out for the PS Vita. It focuses on the main character, Cyberpilot, who is being commanded by a woman named Maria Laurent to help the French Resistance. Part of the reason why this game failed is mostly due to gameplay bugs and some of the performance of the VR leading to motion sickness. But the biggest reason why this game failed is that it has only 2 hours of gameplay but was priced like it was a full-fledged game, with many complaining that it was basically a tech demo.
7. 007 Legends
007 Legends Gameplay
How could anyone ever go wrong with James Bond? Well, that is exactly what happened with 007 Legends. Set at the beginning of Skyfall, the game focuses on James Bond’s previous missions between Quantum of Solace and the present. For starters, many claimed that the game was too simplistic, almost being a knock off of Call of Duty. Furthermore, players claimed that the developers chose some of the worst missions of the 007 franchise. Finally, with a lack of an overarching story and some poor stealth missions, the game was nearly snuffed out of existence.
6. Terminator: Resistance
Terminator: Resistance Gameplay
Set in a post-apocalyptic Los Angeles, this game takes place between 2028 and 2029, focusing on a resistance soldier named Jacob Rivers. This game is also supposed to be the depiction of the future wars that were mentioned in the first two Terminator movies. While many people loved the story and how much it related to the Terminator franchise, others complained of the game feeling like a 2010 shooter. There were also complaints about the AI in the game being too exploitable and the missions being repetitive. Despite franchise loving fans appreciating this game, it just didn’t make the cut for many.
5. Duke Nukem Forever
Duke Nukem Gameplay
Sometimes too much Duke Nukem can be a bad thing. The fifteenth installment of the franchise, Duke Nukem Forever, took place 12 years after the previous game. After the seemingly peaceful alien race tries to take over the world to get their revenge, he must now come out of retirement to save the world. Although the previous game was successful, this game just lost all of the charms its predecessor had. Not only were the shooting mechanics and level design a bit clunky, but the graphics made the game feel outdated. On top of that, the game had some offensive humor that didn’t sit well with its player base. Add a dash of bugs to the game and you’ve got one of the worst shooters to date.
4. Rambo the Game
Rambo Gameplay
Another movie franchise turned into a video game, Rambo the Video Game focuses on its title character, John Rambo, playing out the scenes from the first three movies in the franchise. Since the plot was pretty much-taken care of, most of the issues with the game focused on its gameplay mechanics. There were so many bugs that the game would consistently crash or freeze up. There were also issues with the rail shooter gameplay and quick-time events, with many complaining about it being generic and too simplistic. Finally, because the game was only 3 ½ hours, the game eventually just got worse over time.
3. The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct
Walking Dead: Survival Instinct
Based on the franchise of the same name, this game was released around the same time as Telltale’s The Walking Dead episodic series, which was commercially successful. Everything seemed to be pushing this game in the right direction, but the lackluster gameplay set it all back. Not only were the gameplay mechanics and level design horrible, but the lack of an overarching storyline did not make players want to come back for more. The game just felt rushed because of the popularity of the former, so it couldn’t be executed the way that fans wanted it to.
2. Call of Duty Black Ops: Declassified
Call of Duty Black Ops: Declassified
Supposedly taking place between Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops II, this game focuses on a report, written by Ryan Jackson, that covers several operations completed in 1975 by Alex Mason, Frank Woods, and Jason Hudson. Even though this game was released at the same time as Black Ops II, like Survival Instinct, it was also poorly executed. Many regarded the touch-based controls to be unbearable, along with the enemies getting glitched on some of the levels. But the biggest issue with the game was the multiplayer maps being so small that the player would find themselves in the sights of their enemies. With a single-player campaign only lasting less than an hour, the game eventually received low ratings.
1.Fallout 76
Fallout 76 Gameplay
Known as being the prequel of the Fallout series, Fallout 76 was probably one of the most hyped games of 2018. So much so, that when the game came out, it was a huge disappointment. For starters, the original version of the game had no NPCs whatsoever until a later update came in. Additionally, there were so many bugs within the game that it was deemed unplayable. Others took issue with how many modes there were in the game, making it a jumbled mess. However, this wasn't the last of Bethesda’s.problems with this game. . There were also a lot of controversies with the came, including its expensive microtransactions and its treatment of the modding community, which wasn’t a problem in previous games. The most recent issue with the game is the subscription service to try and help with hacking. It put players in a private server, but the gaming community didn't like that it was behind a paywall. Had it been handled differently, it could’ve been a commercial success.
