Keeping track of your nutrition and stats is vital for your survival in a game like The Forest. You don’t want to die out of hunger deep inside a cave or as you explore the peninsula. That’s why we wanted to provide you with a list of the top 10 foods in The Forest that will help you with all of your vital stats in the game.

10) Snack (best ready source of nutrition)

It’s really suspicious how city snacks keep popping up on this island. Nonetheless, we can’t complain because having these little yum-yums on ya could be the difference between survival and starvation. Snacks are a source of nutrition, energy, health, and stamina in The Forest.

  • Snacks are the perfect food to have on you while you explore because they don’t need to be cooked, nor dried.
  • They could be found literally anywhere from suitcases to cave floors in The Forest.

  • 400 Calories.
  • 25 effect on Fullness.
  • 20 effect on Energy.
  • 5 effect on Health.
  • You can stack up to fifteen Snacks in your Inventory.

9) Cooked Small Meat (easiest food to obtain)

It’s not about how big it is. It’s about how you get it. And Small Meat is definitely the most accessible in The Forest, which makes it a no-brainer adding it to this list.

  • Small Meat can be obtained from Squirrels and most birds.
  • It can’t be placed on a Drying Rack.
  • It’s best to eat Small Meat cooked.

  • 300 Calories.
  • 23 effect on Fullness.
  • 16 effect on Energy.
  • You can hold a maximum of three Small Meat in your inventory.

8) Freshly Cooked Fish (fish will always be available in ponds)

Even though your son has been kidnapped by terrifyingly vicious cannibals and you have to look for him. It can’t hurt to find some time for fishing.

  • Fish can also be dried and stewed, but it’s best to eat it freshly cooked.
  • You can fish using a Fish Trap or any weapon of your choice. Although, spears make fishing easier and more cinematic in The Forest.

  • 500 Calories.
  • 98 effect on Fullness.
  • 20 effect on Health.
  • 80 effect on Energy.
  • You can stack up to three Fish in your Inventory.

7) Freshly Cooked Lizard Meat (there are always lizards around you)

They’re scaly and gross, but The Forest proved them to be not only delicious but also nutritious.

  • You can hunt Lizards using any weapon of your choice. Although, using ranged weapons makes it easier. Preferably the Slingshot if you don’t want to waste any arrows.
  • Even though Lizard Meat - just like all meats in The Forest - last longer when dried, it adds more to your stats when eaten freshly cooked.

Lizard Meat details:

  • 98 effect on Fullness.
  • 20 effect on Health.
  • 80 effect on Energy.
  • You can stack up to three Lizard Meats in your Inventory.

6) Soda (best ready source of hydration)

Who would’ve thought that your go-to energy source, while you’re stranded on an island, would be soda? Well, Endnight Games did.

  • Surprisingly, Soda is more accessible than Water in The Forest. It can be found in Soda Crates in caves and abandoned camps, or even lying at the beach.

Soda details:

  • 400 Calories.
  • 50 effect on Hydration.
  • 80 effect on Energy.
  • You can stack up to ten Sodas in your Inventory.

5) Freshly Cooked Rabbit Meat (most nutritious small animal)

They’re always annoyingly hopping around, and their numbers always seem to double overnight, but that’s for a good reason, which is filling your stomach. 

  • Just like any other animal, Rabbits can be hunted using any weapon. It’s best however to use ranged weapons. A Bow or a Slingshot would suffice. Alternatively, you can use the Rabbit Trap.
  • Rabbits can be stored at your home in a Rabbit cage where they’ll breed to get you more of the furry little cretins.
  • Rabbit Meat is best eaten freshly cooked.

Freshly Cooked Rabbit Meat details:

  • 600 Calories.
  • 98 effect on Fullness.
  • 20 effect on Health.
  • 80 effect on Energy.
  • You can have up to three Rabbit Meats in your Inventory.

4) Energy Mix+ (best source of energy)

You didn’t think every item on this list would be easy to get, did you? The Energy Mix+ is the best Energy source in The Forest, and if it was easy to get, then this wouldn’t be The Forest.

  • Energy Mix+ can be crafted by combining Chicory with Coneflower and Aloy.

Energy Mix+ details:

  • 100 effect on Energy (full)
  • 60 effect on Stamina.
  • You can stack up to five of these in your Inventory.

3) Herbal Medicine+ (best craftable medicine)

Herbal Medicine+ is the more accessible alternative to Meds in The Forest. You’ll have to put a leg into it to find the ingredients, but it’ll definitely be worth your time.

  • You can craft Herbal Medicine+ by combining Marigold with Coneflower and Aloy.

Herbal Medicine+ details:

  • 100 effect on Health (full).
  • 5 effect on Fullness.
  • You can stack up to five of these in your Inventory.

2) Water Collector (most steady source of water)

Having a few of these all around your base will definitely make quenching your thirst while you’re building easy.

  • The Water Collector can be crafted using 4 Sticks and a Turtle Shell.
  • It’s best to build several of these around your base in order to gather big amounts of water when it rains.
  • Its water poses no risk of infection.
  • It can also be used as an indestructible wall if it helps you to know.

Water Collector details:

  • 100 effect on Hydration.
  • You can build however many of these that you’d like.

Freshly Cooked Meat kinda has the same stats as a couple of other items on this list, but it tops them because bigger animals in The Forest are easier to hunt. The Deer for instance just freeze right there as you keep hitting them with a spear.

  • Meat can be obtained from Deer, Crocodiles, Tortoises, Turtles, Raccoons, and Boars.
  • It can also be dried or put in a stew, but it’s best when eaten freshly cooked.
  • The animals that you get Meat from also provide you with Skins that you can use to craft other items that are vital to your survival.
