Out of all the different Terraria classes, the melee class has the least utility. This is especially true for the early part of the game as melee will often only be limited to spears, swords, boomerangs, flails, and yoyos. The only time you'll be able to make your hits do extra is when you finally get to jungle exploration and have beaten the Queen Bee. When the Witch Doctor moves in under this condition, you'll finally have access to Flasks. Find out which flasks are the best of the best with our Top 5 Terraria Best Flasks and how to get them!
5. Flask of Gold
Gold farming is essential if you want to be able to upgrade your equipment. While there are multiple ways to get tons of money, using a Flask of Gold will allow you to get even more than you could ever hope to spend. Applying this to your melee weapon will give the Midas debuff which causes enemies to drop more coins on death.
Item details:
- Gives melee weapons the ability to inflict the Midas debuff
What makes it great:
- Affected enemies will drop 10-49% more coins when killed. Great for farming money off of invasions.

4. Flask of Fire
Doing more damage is always welcomed in a game filled with things trying to constantly kill you. The Flask of Fire allows you to do this by setting almost anything it touches ablaze. While the debuff does not last very long, the imbued effect lasts for quite a bit, allowing you to keep on stacking the burn damage over and over.
Item details:
- Gives melee weapons the ability to inflict the On Fire debuff
What makes it great:
- Deals 4 damage per second for 3-6 seconds. Oiled enemies get 24 damage per second instead. Also sheds minimal light.

3. Flask of Venom
This is a stronger and more potent form of continuous damage than the Flask of Fire and can be considered a direct upgrade to it. The damage from the Acid Venom debuff is no joke. A single application of this debuff will do a minimum of 150 damage. In comparison, the Flask of Fire does 12 damage minimum.
Item details:
- Gives melee weapons the ability to inflict the Acid Venom debuff
What makes it great:
- Deals 30 damage per second for 5-9 seconds. The only boss immune to this is the Lunatic Cultist.

2. Flask of Cursed Flames
While this flask does less damage than the Venom variant, the Flask of Cursed Flames is easier to craft. It also allows for enemies to take extra knockback, which is highly valuable for close-ranged fighters. This bumps the Flask of Cursed Flames a bit higher on our list since the extra utility it provides outshines the pure damage of the Venom flask.
Item details:
- Gives melee weapons the ability to inflict the Cursed Inferno debuff
What makes it great:
- Deals 24 damage per second for 3-6 seconds. The only boss immune to this is the Lunatic Cultist. Also makes enemies take 10% extra knockback.

1. Flask of Ichor
Unlike the other flasks on this list, the Ichor flask does not provide extra damage but instead provides pure utility. The Flask of Ichor allows melee fighters to inflict the Ichor debuff which drastically lowers enemy defense. This allows melee users to deal an increased amount of damage per swing which is non-reliant on damage per second ticks. Pair this effect with the Shark Tooth Necklace and its variants and you'd be dealing tons of damage faster than what the other flasks provide.
Item details:
- Gives melee weapons the ability to inflict the Ichor debuff
What makes it great:
- Reduces enemy armor by 8/11/15 in Normal/Expert/Master modes respectively.
- Has higher DPS than other flasks so long as the player can hit at least 4 times per second
