Who are the coolest characters of Street Fighter 6 so far?
Street Fighter 6 is just around the corner and the game couldn’t be looking better. Everyone is super excited about the game as it will not only include brand new mechanics but also what is already looking like one of the best rosters of all time.
Characters are the cream of the crop when it comes to fighting games and SF6 developers seem to understand this to a very high degree. All of the characters that have been introduced so far look sick, whether they are veterans of the franchise or new blood, and we’ll be taking a look into what are the coolest so far.
10. JP
JP seems to be replacing M. Bison as the freshest main villain and final boss for Street Fighter. The man is shrouded in mystery and we can’t wait to solve it.
He seems to use Psycho Power in combat and the true extent of his roots in the main Street Fighter story remains undisclosed. It’s interesting to note that his build is similar to Q and G and that he also is named with alphabetic initials.
JP fights with a cane and he seems to be a menace from anywhere on the screen, being able to place energy voids on selected positions and then make them hit the opponent or teleport himself to said voids. His screen control, unique abilities, and cool-looking moves make him one of the most anticipated fighting game villains in a long time.
9. Manon
Manon is a French fashion icon and someone who applies elegance, style, and finesse to all areas of her life.
This top model fights using ballet-inspired movements and has really long limbs (especially her legs) which can hit the opponent from far away swiftly. She also seems to be a grappler so 50/50 mixups will most likely be her specialty, taking after her martial arts experience as a judo practitioner.
Her repertoire allows her to use special moves to pull the opponent to her, which can be followed up by a command grab. With each grab, she increases her medal level, which in turn improves the next grab. Manon will mix you up with an extravaganza.
8. Ryu
Ryu is the wandering vagabond constantly traveling the world to seek strength and self-improvement. He was ultimately trained by Oro to further enhance his potential, to become the well-mannered, sincere, and overwhelmingly strong fighter that he is in Street Fighter 6.
Ryu is often considered the best character to learn Street Fighter with, as he is usually a jack of all trades, master of none. With each game he’s in, his role in the meta has changed and in later years he had come to be almost a generic character without many cool traits.
This all changed in his latest interaction as Ryu gained ways to charge his Hadokens, added new and exclusive special moves to his repertoire, and gained access to high-damaging combos. On top of all this, aesthetically speaking, everything, from the way he looks and moves to the animation of his attacks and how they affect the opponent, looks as cool as cool can get. Just take a glimpse of his Shin Shoryuken.
7. Marisa
Marisa is an Italian powerhouse of a woman who loves beautiful shining things, as she is a jewelry designer. Her hair is done like the helmet of a Roman gladiator and her size speaks volumes. Her size and presence is impressive.
This girl sure can pack a punch as her moves look more devastating than those of any other character so far. The sheer force with which Marisa tackles, punches and kicks her opponents into oblivion will make you think twice before taking her on with a reckless approach.
Plus, Marisa has moves that can be charged for extra damage, and she can infuse armor into her attacks as well to counterattack with brute force. This. Is. Marisa! And she is overwhelmingly devastating.
6. Chun-Li
As the tritagonist of the series, the Strongest Woman in the World has been a mainstay throughout its multiple installments ever since Street Fighter II. Not only that, but she’s also often Top Tier in whichever game she’s in.
There are many reasons for Chun-Li’s stellar popularity but aside from her iconic design, it’s her gameplay that hooks so many players to this character. Street Fighter is a ground-based Fighting Game and therefore, footsies play a major role in who will take the victory. Buttons with tremendous speed and long reach combined with great mobility, dynamic movement, and the overwhelming power of her Lightning Legs (or Hyakuretsukyaku) make Chun-Li the perfect character for a hit-and-run, poking style.
In Street Fighter 6, she gains access to a completely new stance which she can switch from and into her default one, extending her normal options to new heights, and she gains new attributes in relation to some of her more legendary attacks, such as being able to use Kikosho midair. The Chinese Blue Bird is ready to get back into action.
5. Kimberly
Kimberly is the new successor of Bushin-Ryu, the style employed by emblematic characters like Guy and his master Zeku before him. She is also the first African-American female character in Street Fighter history, and her character design couldn’t be better or more fitting to the game.
An embracer of hip-hop and street culture, Kimberly might as well just be considered the true face of Street Fighter 6. She is already one of the most popular characters in Street Fighter and is also considered one of the strongest characters in the game.
Kimberly’s super fast has multiple movement options and she’s a ninja who uses graffiti spray cans as smoke bombs to conceal her movement and mix up the opponent. She is almost the perfect mix-up character and can even convert stray overheads into big damage and advantageous positioning and situations.
4. Jamie
The Drunken Fist master hailing from Hong Kong, Jamie is an expert breakdancer who uses unorthodox moves, mind games, and the element of surprise to gain an upper hand on his opponents.
He is related to the Twin Dragons Yun and Yang, and he’s Luke’s rival, and he considers himself the peacekeeper of Chinatown. Jamie can drink from his gourd between moves to raise his drink level which can go all the way up to level 4. With each level up, he gains access to new special moves.
With this premise, Jamie is probably the most complex character in Street Fighter 6 so far and the hardest one to master, but mastering comes with big rewards, as being aware of his drink level at all times will allow you to use his play style to its maximum potential.
3. Dhalsim
Dhalsim is a Yoga master from India and has been around since the early days of Street Fighter.
Through countless years of training, he has learned to stretch his limbs far beyond what is normally humanly possible and gained the ability to breathe fire through the power of Agni, the fire god. He can also teleport himself, float in the air, and perform other superhuman feats.
In Street Fighter V, he’s widely considered to be the best character in the game, and Street Fighter 6 just expanded his options even further. In SF6, not only is Sim able to do pretty much everything that makes him top-tier in V, but he has also gained access to a whole new world of options such as the ability to spew Yoga Fire blasts midair (a technique known as Yoga Comet), and new ways to control the angles, speed, and types of fire blasts at his disposal. The parry mechanic can also completely change the way he’s played and his Perfect Parry animation is pure perfection.
2. Juri
Juri Han debuted in Super Street Fighter IV and quickly became a fan favorite. She lost her left eye and her family to Shadaloo and subsequently had the powerful Feng Shui Engine implanted in her missing eye. Working for S.I.N., she ended up betraying her leader, Seth and kept following her own, twisted, personal agenda.
With a sadistic and obnoxious personality, this Taekwondo practitioner is an edgy anti-hero who is just starting a new life after the demise of M. Bison in the previous entry of the series.
Street Fighter 6 brought back some of the coolest bits of Juri’s skillset from Street Fighter IV, such as dive kicks, while still keeping the Fuha stores that make her so unique in Street Fighter V. Juri’s a perfect Rushdown character who can establish great control in neutral, and playing her has never looked more exciting.
1. Ken
Ken Masters is Ryu’s eternal rival and he’s always ready to turn up the heat. Even though he started as an exact replica of Ryu but with a different design in the original Street Fighter game as well as in the vanilla edition of Street Fighter II, he became more and more distinct from his Japanese counterpart as time went on.
Ken became a husband and father but he had to abandon his family in the wake of this new game, as he is being framed for something he’s not guilty of. But to speak about what makes Ken the coolest character in Street Fighter 6, let’s just summarize what makes this version of the character so great,
Simply put, SF6 Ken is a fresh take on a classic character, in which some of his most nostalgic and famous moves, like his 3rd Strike Super Art III or his Super Turbo “crazy kicks” make a most welcomed comeback, whilst presenting the character with brand new, yet dope visuals, and adding a twist to his playstyle, such as the ways you can opt to add or not flames to your Shoryuken or the usage of new special moves that can extend his combos in ways never before seen.
Hopefully, this list helped you get to know some of the cooler characters that we can expect when Street Fighter 6 drops. Actually, you can check most of these characters in real matches thanks to the Beta versions that were released not so long ago.
Street Fighter 6 is looking great, with fantastic mechanics and the perfect roster, so it was hard to leave some characters out of this Top 10, like Guile and Deejay. If your favorite didn’t make the cut, we hope that at least you got to know some of the other guys better.
