What platform should I play Resident Evil 2 REmake on?
Regardless of what platform you choose, Resident Evil 2 is an amazing game. That doesn’t mean, however, that your experience can’t be optimized. The Playstation 4, the Xbox One, and PC all have their own benefits and disadvantages. This article is meant to help you determine which version of Resident Evil 2 is best for you to play.
PS4
Visuals:
- On the basic PS4, you will experience a 1920 x 1080 resolution.
- The PS4 Pro has a 2880 x 1620 resolution.
- On the basic console, the frame rate is incredibly erratic. For the most part, the frame rate will stay in the 50s, but it will continually dip into the 40s and sometimes the 30s.
- On the PS4 Pro, the frame rate is pretty consistent at 60 FPS. It will occasionally dip, but not too much.
- The game will look “sharper” than on the Xbox One, which does look a little bit blurrier. Despite this, the PS4 looks less “clean” due to frequent issues with aliasing.
- The quality of the motion blur effect is better on the PS4 Pro than the base console, as you might imagine.
- The PS4 Pro does show visible reconstruction artifacts whereas the Xbox One X does not.
- The base PS4 shows little reconstruction, but the base Xbox does quite a bit.
Performance:
- The PS4 Pro maintains a relatively consistent framerate, while the PS4 itself is incredibly inconsistent.
- The Xbox One X has a much more consistent framerate than the PS4 Pro, but the base PS4 suffers less frequent and less significant dips in FPS than the base Xbox One.
- No lagging or noticeable issues with performance on either the PS4 or PS4 Pro.
Xbox One
Visuals:
- On the basic Xbox One, you will experience a 1920 x 1080 resolution.
- The Xbox One X has a 2880 x 1620 resolution.
- The base console has incredibly severe and wildly erratic dips in framerate, the worst of all four console options.
- Ironically, the Xbox One X has the most stable framerate of all four consoles, consistently staying at 60 FPS with relatively infrequent and small drops.
- The Xbox One and Xbox One X, although not as “sharp as the PS4, have “cleaner” pictures due to effective aliasing.
- The motion blur effect is better on the Xbox One X than on the base console.
- The Xbox One X has virtually no visible reconstruction, unlike the PS4 Pro, which does have this issue.
- In a humorous turn of events, the base Xbox shows considerable reconstruction whereas the PS4 does not.
Performance:
- The Xbox One X has the best frame rate and resolution of all four console options.
- The base Xbox does not quite match the higher framerate if the base PS4.
- No lagging or considerable issues with the Xbox One X or Xbox One.
PC
Visuals:
- Resident Evil has an incredible array of options in order to customize one’s visual experience. Therefore, based on the power of your PC, Resident Evil 2 could look just as good or better than it’s console counterparts.
- Since there is so much flexibility in what the game can look like on PC, here are a few recommendations to optimize the games lighting, framerate, resolution, aliasing and more, courtesy of Alex with Digital Foundry.

- Shadow Quality: High
- Volumetric Quality: High
- Ambient Occlusion: SSAO
- Shadow Cache: On
- Contact Shadows: On
- Mesh Quality: Max
- Anti-Aliasing: FXAA + TAA
- Bloom/SSR/Lens FX: On
- Motion Blur/DOF: On
- Interlacing: Off
Performance:
- Since every PC is unique, these particular settings, which are optimized for the game to look its very best, could impact the performance of the game. So, if you notice any lag or other issues, tinker with the settings in order to resolve the problem. Performance is dependent on what your PC can handle.
