If you love Brock from the Anime and love Rock-Types, this list is for you.
Throughout 8 generations of Pokémon games, the Rock-Type category has often been overlooked. This is because, at times, they were considered too bulky and not aesthetically pleasing. However, the evolution of Rock-Types in the newer games has been significant. They have become a crucial part of the game, often leaving players wondering how to counter one of the most popular types, Fire-Types.
What are Rock types?
Rock Types are solid and usually have high Defense and Attack stats. In older games, they were incredibly weak to Grass and Water Types. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet balance the Rock-Type weaknesses. They now have interesting hybrid and tera types, strengthening them in battle.
Here’s some facts that make them unique:
Rock Types are Super Effective against:
- Fire
- Bug
- Flying
- Ice
Rock Types are Not Effective against:
- Water
- Grass
- Fighting
- Ground
- Steel
Types not effective against Rock Types:
- Normal
- Fire
- Poison
- Flying

15. Klawf (Paldea)
Klawf should be your best Rock-Type Pokémon at the beginning of the game because it has great Attack and Defense stats and can learn a mix of Rock, Metal, and Fighting moves.
Where to get it:
Klawf lives around around the Artazon West’s mountains.
Analysis:
Klawf is just a Pokémon version of Mr. Crabby, with a funny-looking mustache. Klawf can learn 3 abilities, Anger Shell, Shell Armor, and Regenerator. It’s not a hybrid and stays as a Rock-Type, so it should keep its Rock-Tera Type to boost its Rock-Type moves.
Kalwf’s Strengths:
Abilities
- Klawf can learn the Anger Shell Ability. Klawf boosts its Attack, Special Attack, and Speed when HP reaches below 50%. As a result, Defense and Special Defense decreases.
- Klawf can learn the Shell Armor Ability, preventing itself from receiving a critical hit.
- Klawf can learn the Regenerator Hidden Ability, restoring 1⁄3 of its maximum HP when switching out of battle.
Typing
- As a Rock Type with a Rock Tera Type, it’s super effective against Fire, Bug, Flying, and Ice-Type Pokémon.
Best Moves:
- Klawf should keep moves such as Rock Tomb and Rock Smash to stay aggressive in battle.
- Rock Smash deals 40 damage and lowers the opponent’s Defense stat. Rock Tomb deals 60 damage while lowering the opponent’s Speed stat.
- Klawf can learn moves like Protect, to protect itself from all attacks and learn Harden to boost its Defense stat.
- Klawf can learn Metal Claw, dealing 50 damage while boosting its Attack stat even more. This can make Rock Smash and Rock Tomb more powerful.
- Klawf can learn Guillotine, guaranteed to make the opponent faint. Its accuracy increases if the user is a higher level than the target Pokémon, but fails if the target is a higher level.
Best TM Moves:
- Klawf can learn Brick Break, dealing 75 damage to opponents by breaking through their Light Screen and Reflect.
- Klawf can learn High Horsepower, dealing massive 95 damage to the opponent.
- Klawf can learn Stone Edge, dealing 100 damage to the opponent as it can land critical hits.
- Klawf can learn Shadow Claw, dealing 70 damage to the opponent as it can land critical hits onto Ghost and Psychic Pokémon. Ghost moves are ineffective towards any Rock-Types, so this is a good move to keep when facing Ghost and Fire Pokémon.

- 100 Attack
- 115 Defense
- 35 Special Attack
- 55 Special Defense
- 75 Speed

Where to get it:
Fan Favorite Rampardos is available in both Violet and Scarlet through the Indigo DLC.
Catch a Rampardos in the Terarium, in the Canyon Biome, east of Canyon Outdoor Classroom.
Analysis:
Rampardos has a cool design as a punk-looking Dragon. It can learn 2 Abilities, Mold Breaker and Sheer Force. Its preferred hybrid is a Rock-Tera Type with a Fairy Tera Type for defense against Dragon-Types. Arguably, as a Fairy Tera Type, players can get creative and adapt TM moves so Rampardos can face powerful Legendary Dragons.

- Rampardos’ Mold Breaker Ability prevents an opponent’s ability from affecting moves that Rampardos uses. It only affects abilities that change moves' power, accuracy, or other effects.
- Rampardos can learn the Sheer Force Hidden Ability, increasing the power of moves that have beneficial secondary effects by 30% but removes those additional effects. As an example, the move Crunch.
Typing:
- As a Rock-Type with a Dark Tera Type, Rampardos is immune to Psychic-Types and can counter them with boosted Dark moves such as Assuracne and Crunch. Its weaknesses would only be Fighting, Bug, and Fairy.
- As a Rock-Type with a Dragon Tera Type, Rampardos can boost its Dragon TM moves against Dragon Types and other elemental types. Rampardos would be weak to Fairy, Ice, and other Dragon-Types.
- As a Rock-Type with a Fairy Tera Type, Rampardos can be immune to Dragon-Types and still use Dragon-Type moves against them. It’s only weak to Poison and Steel.
Best Moves:
- Rampardos can use Assurance, dealing 60 damage toward the opponent. The move doubles power if the target has already taken some damage in the same turn.

It can learn 2 Abilities, Sturdy and Soundproof. Its preferred hybrid is a Rock-Steel Type with a Ground Tera Type.

- Bastiodon’s Sturdy Ability allows it not to be KO’s by a single hit if its HP is full. Single hit moves will fail to knock it out.

- As a Ground Tera-Type, it’s immune to Electric-Types and takes little damage from Poison and Rock-types.

There are only 2 ways for you to achieve Larvitar.

2. The other option is to do Link Trade with other online Scarlet players. Scarlet players have ancient past forms, Violet Players have future forms. Pokémon Scarlet players want Violet exclusives such as Iron Hands, Iron Jugilis, Iron Valiant, Iron Leaves, and etc. Most of the Iron Pokémon in Violet live in Area 0.
As of 2024, the code to receive a Larvitar/Pupitar/Tyranitar 0276-0316, doesn’t work.

Carbink is a lovely Jewel Pokémon, similar to fan favorite Togekiss. It can learn 2 Abilities, Clear Body and Sturdy. Its preferred hybrid is Rock and Fairy-Type with an Electric Tera Type.
Carbink Strengths:
Abilities:
- Carbink’s Clear Body ability prevents other Pokémon’s moves or Abilities from lowering the Pokémon’s stats.
- Carbink has the Sturdy Hidden Ability, allowing it not to be KO’s by a single hit if its HP is full. Single hit moves will fail to knock it out.
Typing:
- As a Rock and Fairy Type, Carbink has additional types that it can defeat, such as Dragon, Dark, and Fighting Types.
- As an Electric-Tera-Type, it protects its Fairy weakness against Steel and Flying. Carbink takes minimal damage from those types and can counter them by learning Ground-Type moves.
- However, opposing Ground-Type moves are super effective against Electric-Terastalized Carbink.
Best Moves:
- Carbink can use moves like Moonblast and Stone Edge. Moonblast can defeat Dragon-Types, and Stone Edge can defeat Fire-Types.
- Moonblast lowers the opponent’s Special Attack stat while also attacking them.
- Stone Edge is a powerful 100 damage attack which may land critical hits.
- Carbink can use moves like Skill Swap to switch abilities with the opponent.
- Carbink can use Reflect and Light Screen reducing damage from physical Attacks and Special Attacks.
- Carbink can use Guard Split to average its Defense and Special Defense stats with those of the opponent. You’d want to do this when the opponent has high Defense and Special Defense so Carbink can land attacks on it.
Best TM Moves:
- Carbink has slow stats, so it can activate Trick Room, making slower Pokémon move first for 5 turns against fast Flying-Types.
- Carbink can use moves like Gravity, disabling opposing Flying-types with the Levitate Ability to be hit by Ground-Type moves for 5 turns. Flying moves can’t be used during the effects of Gravity.
- Carbink can use accurate moves like Earth Power, inflicting 90 damage. This is highly effective against Flying-Types after using the move Gravity. This move is highly effective against Steel-Types.
- Carbink can use Meteor Beam to gather energy from space and boost its Special Attack stat on the first turn and attacks on the next. Use this move against powerful Fire-Types.
Carbite stats:
- 50 HP
- 50 Attack
- 150 Defense
- 50 Special Attack
- 150 Special Defense
- 50 Speed
