Fallout 4 is an expansive game that allows you to explore and customize and conduct your character however you'd like. However there is arguably one aspect of Fallout 4 that is pretty lack-luster and that is the apparel department.
There are lots to choose from but they don't typically have the kick-ass OOMPH that a game of grit and violence to this degree needs.
Luckily, this expansive game has a personalizeable solution to this problem and that is MODS. These are the top 10 best Fallout 4 clothing mods you must have.
10. Carbon Fiber Vault Suit
https://youtu.be/jkGAzsKUPq4?t=14
Let’s start the list somewhere familiar: the Vault Suit! The cornerstone of any beginning vault dwellers’ wardrobe. The Carbon Fiber Vault Suit is simply a reskin of the vault suit so that it has a more hardy and armored appearance as well as a few different color schemes to choose from. While it might not necessarily be the most lore-friendly, it is still a worthy addition if you’re looking to throw out a soft, blue and yellow suit for something with more flair.
The Looks
The Carbon Fiber Vault suit absolutely makes the player a little more powerful from the get-go (assuming you’re using the standard intro) because of the slick and protective revamp of the starting gear.
The Customization
You don’t have to stick with the blue-yellow color scheme for your vault suit! You can have a red-black or white-gold vault suit if the standard blue-yellow isn’t your vibe.
Immersion into the Vault Dweller
If you are starting with a fresh playthrough and want to maintain wearing the vault suit (as many players, myself included, do), then this mod makes this a much more enjoyable endeavour because it doesn't just have to be the number on the back that differs from other vault dwellers’ suits but the colors as well. In other words it feels like it isn’t so much Vault-Tec property as much as it feels like the Lone Wanderer’s uniform. And that’s pretty sick.

9. The Adventurer Outfit
Check it out it in action here: https://youtu.be/gDSgHcZvp7M?t=54
The Adventurer Outfit mod takes the light, casual explorer look and combines it with the protective features of a set of armor. Couple this with the different varieties of style and color available for this outfit and you’ve got yourself one adventurous lone wanderer.
Lore Friendly
Unlike some of the other entries in this list, this one is lore-friendly for anyone who prefers to play with things strictly existent within the history of Fallout. These are very much outfits that make sense to be worn within the context of the game.
Immersion
While some mods aim to go above and beyond in terms of over-the-top, overpowered content, this one stays within the realm of realism and immersion by remaining in the game's vanilla clothing options. The outfits seem very much like something anyone in a world like that would.
Personalizing the Outfit
Allowing different varieties of these outfits to be worn means that these outfits don’t become stagnant or old news too early on.

8. Commonwealth Survivalist Gear
https://youtu.be/gDSgHcZvp7M?t=246
The Commonwealth Survivalist gear revamps many of the vanilla clothing items as well as adds 12 original outfits along with new accessories such as a new gas mask. This mod combines the casual with the armored look making a very realistic and cool set of items.
So. Many. New. Items.
The combinations of colors of and accessories with the new outfits feel nearly limitless and in turn makes the game feel even more personalizable.
The Sheer Amount of Loot
Outside of the customization side of things, the amount of loot and uniqueness to the world becomes immense.
Immersion
The Commonwealth Survival Gear fuels an immersive gameplay experience through the variety of clothing options. Everything seems unique to its respective NPC.

7. Survival Outfit Collection
Check out the Survival Outfit Collection in action here: https://youtu.be/TvwP1t9i0uo
The Survival Outfit Collection is one of the best clothing mods the lone wanderer could have to protect themselves from the radiation while looking rad themselves with the casual and rad-resistant hoodie. Now, the other additions to his mod may not be rad resistant, nor are they necessarily lore-friendly, however they are still rad as ever. The mod aims to give the lone wanderer a more modern, casual look while enhancing the dirty, bloodied appearance that the wastes would leave on its inhabitants.
Realistic Accessories and Items
Accessories like bloody (or clean) bandages as well as things like backpacks and the dirty jeans help give the game a sense of realism and relatability.
Tactical Gear
The addition of tactical gear and holsters for your weapons helps raise the level of realism and simultaneously make the player feel like more of a weaponized badass. Now, again this isn’t necessarily lore-friendly but hey; it’s pretty cool.
Immersion
Despite not being lore-friendly the mod does help give a sense of immersion in that the wounds and grime on the outfit make the player not seem nearly as invincible as they do in say, the Mechanist’s Armor.

6. The Forsaken Institute Assassin
See the forsaken institute in action here: https://youtu.be/RDejNAUIqps
The Forsaken Institute Assassin mod brings an original 6 new outfits and 8 new clothing pieces all inspired from the signature, sleek Institute look. These outfits and clothing pieces have variations in color and small cosmetic features and are centered around light armor and a stealthy style of playing.
The Looks
Let’s just be up-front. A major reason to get it is simply because it looks so awesome. If you are going for the lightweight, stealthy look then this one is especially for you. It is sleek and beautiful but also the player looks dangerous as all hell.
Lore-friendly
Many mods of this kind; ie: mods that consist of an absolutely awesome looking set of armor no matter if it would be in the world of Fallout or not; don’t tend to be lore-friendly. However this one stays within the bounds of Fallout 4 itself and contextualizes itself with an original backstory. But no spoilers here!
Immersive
Immersing the lone wanderer into the clothes of the Forsaken Institute Assassin is just such an empowering feeling. The modern and deadly look of the armor is incredible and makes the player feel unstoppable.

5. Atomic Warlords
Look at Aromic Warlords in action here: https://youtu.be/CMyGA7eJFLc
Do you like the Children of Atom (for some reason) but reppin those hideous rags of theirs would just be a sacrifice of appearances on your part? Well, lament no longer friends; because the Atomic Warlords mod is the answer to the apparel disaster that is the Children of Atom. Even if you don’t happen to care for this faction; that’s okay! It will absolutely win you over with the allure of its battle ready, menacing appearances
New Faction Armor
An entire new type of armor is an exciting prospect on its own but when it's linked to a faction that hasn’t previously had any sort of heavy/combat armor? Even better. The Children of Atom are given incredibly awesome armor from this mod.
Variety of Armor Types
There are different types of armors for different play styles; ie: heavy armor, light armor. But even further than that there are variations of those! Meaning the combinations are plentiful.
Immersion
As previously mentioned, a faction like the Children of Atom getting any sort of battle type armor is exciting. And immersion into the lore is the other one of those reasons. It helps further solidify their place as a faction in the world of Fallout but it also allows for better gameplay through loot and rewards.

4. Courser X-92 Power Suit
https://youtu.be/HAtOCr0SIwA
The Courser X-92 Power Suit brings the clean, futuristic style of the Institute and the protection and hardiness of Power Armor into one set of armor. This outfit also changes the appearance of your Pip-boy as well as give you other perks and abilities.
Craftable Components
All of the parts of this outfit can be crafted in one place which is extremely handy. This also means that the special type of fusion core you need for your suit can be crafted as well.
New Pip-Boy
This mod also replaces your old Pip-boy and gives you a new sleek looking Institute Pip-Boy.
Armor Abilities
The individual pieces of armor all have different abilities such as targeting modules or recon modules. The suit is also especially damage resistant because it combines strength of power armor and the mobility of standard armor into this.

3. B-35C Heavy Brotherhood of Steel Armor
Check out the B-35C in action here: https://youtu.be/DTdoTIRFeGA
The B-35C Heavy Brotherhood of Steel Armor mod is an absolute MUST if you are the type to wear heavy armors and have high damage resistance. The B-35C takes away the primary hassles of traditional power armor without losing quality protection.
Standard Armor Mobility
As opposed to standard power armor, where you have to physically get inside and power it with a fusion core, you just wear like you would normal armor pieces which means better mobility. But the best part is that there is not a significant loss of damage resistance.
Customizable
Another great feature of the mod is the integration of the standard power armor customization into the normal armor crafting. Different colors and decals are at your disposal so you can make the B-35C your very own.
It Looks Incredible!!
The design of the armor is absolutely great. Sacrificing the bulk of power armor for the tighter fitting but still heavy B-35C is a more than reasonable sacrifice. It is designed for heavy terrain and heavy damage and it shows in the design. It creates a very powerful image for the Lone Wanderer.

2. Custom Combat Armor
https://youtu.be/OZJ6htReSXM
The combat armor that many of the NPC’s and even your character may wear throughout the game has lost its flair hasn’t it? And the synth armor options aren’t any better unfortunately. Aside from a few minor cosmetic changes you can make through upgrades, they both stay their respective drab colors. The Custom Combat Armor mod changes that by not just kicking the boring colors to the curb but by also giving you an entire new plethora of designs for the Combat armor as well as the Synth armor pieces
Over 2800 Total Combinations
There is an immense number of colors, decals, and patterns that you can use to customize your combat armor. The possibilities are virtually limitless.
Creative Freedom
You can custom make as many sets of combat armor as your resources can provide. Meaning that even your companions can sport their very own, custom made combat armor.

Uniqueness and Immersion
The virtually limitless customization this mod offers is in full swing throughout the Commonwealth. The major factions and enemies have new armors that they flaunt around the wasteland making the world feel much more immersive and unique. Raiders sporting designed T-shirts under their armor with decals like Grognak the Barbarian comic book covers or perhaps a Nuka-World poster or even a lore-friendly logo such as the Nuka Cola logo.
New Shop with Shop-owners
Eli’s Armour Compendium also offers an entirely new, in-game shop that you can visit and (if you’ve got the caps) buy these new clothing and armor items straight from the tailors and shop-owners themselves, Eli and Ellie.
