BOTW Best Armor

Waking up in a shrine after a century-long slumber is crazy. No memory of who you are or what you’re supposed to be doing. That’s Link’s dilemma in Breath of the Wild. What’s worse, he’s got nothing more than an old shirt and pants waiting for him. To survive, he’s gonna need new armor, and you’re gonna help him do just that. There’s a bunch of armor scattered around the expansive world of Hyrule, and it’s up to you to find the best one for the job. That being said, not all armor is created equal, and everyone has favorites. If you want to know which sets of armor are my personal favorites, read on!

The Best Armor

5. Sheikah Set (For Being Sneaky)

They’ll never hear you coming!

There are a lot of monsters who can’t wait to tear into you, and sometimes you’ll find them right in the way of your chosen path. If you’re not up for the fight, the Sheikah Armor can help. While it’s one of the weaker sets defensively, it can get you out of a tough spot if you’re lucky.

Why the Sheikah Armor is Great

  • One of the early game’s best sets
  • Stealth, which is vital in later missions
  • You’ll get to feel like Sheik and Impa!

How to Get Sheikah Armor:

  • Save up those Rupees! You’ll be buying this armor.
  • Head to Kakariko village (Impa lives there).
  • Head to the armor shop and buy each piece. In total it’ll cost 1800 Rupees.

4. Champion’s Tunic (For Strategizing)

The already iconic blue tunic makes its debut.

One hundred years ago, Link wore his amazing Champion’s Tunic in the fight against Ganon. Now, he can reclaim it in Kakariko village from Impa. Getting it seems simple but can be a feat for some players. If you remember from earlier, Link’s memories are gone, and Impa wants him to at least remember something of the past before gifting it to him. Wearing will let you see the exact HP of enemies, great for preparing yourself.

Why the Champion’s Tunic is Great

  • It’s Link’s newest outfit, and it looks great.
  • It shows enemy hit points, which is very useful for strategizing.

How to get Champion’s Tunic:

  • Again, head to Kakariko Village.
  • Speak with Impa, who will task you with recovering Link’s memories.
  • Find one of the locations in the Compendium, and stand on the glowing circle to recollect a memory.
  • Go back a speak to Impa again, who will give you the Champion’s Tunic.

3. Barbarian Armor (For More Attack Power)

Who wouldn’t want to hit enemies even harder?

Some monsters around Hyrule are notorious for having high health, high defense, or both (*cough* Lynels *cough*). That’s for barbarian armor to fix. This set boosts your attack quite a bit, but it doesn’t come easy. You’ll need to complete the three Labyrinths across Hyrule to obtain the pieces of armor. It’s well worth it, in my opinion.

What’s Great About Barbarian Armor

  • Extra Strength!
  • It looks kinda badass.
  • You’ll find shrines because of it.

How to Get Barbarian Armor:

  • You’ll need to complete the North Lomei, South Lomei, and Lomei Labyrinths.
  • Fight through the mazes to reach the shrines, where each piece of armor rests.

2. Snowquill Armor (For Freezing Temperatures)

That’ll keep ya warm!

Throughout Northern Hyrule, you’ll end up in lots of snowy areas. You’ll very quickly realize that Your spicy food and heat elixirs won’t quite cut it. Luckily, Snowquill Armor takes the worry out of the equation. You can roam the snowy mountain ranges to your heart’s now warm and fuzzy content!

What’s Great about Snowquill Armor:

  • It’s warm enough to get you through snowy and icy weather.
  • It’s got decent defense.
  • It isn’t a hassle to get

How to Get Snowquill Armor

  • This armor can be bought like the Sheikah Armor, but this time in Rito Village.
  • Save up your Rupees - this armor costs 2150 of them in total!

1. Ancient Armor (For Fighting Guardians)

Those pesky Guardians don’t stand a chance!

If you’ve played BOTW for even an hour, there’s a chance you’ve been hunted down by a Guardian, the six-legged mechanical beasts that roam around Hyrule. Even one hit from their lasers is enough to send Link to the Goddess Hylia for good. The Ancient Armor of olden times puts a stop to that once and for all. You’ll be able to power through the lasers and turn your aggressor into a heap of scrap metal in no time.

What’s Great About the Ancient Armor:

  • Guardians are easier to take out since they hurt you less.
  • High defense

How to Get Ancient Armor

  • You’ll need to be patient for this one.
  • After helping Robbie in Akkala, you can craft weapons and armor.
  • You’ll need 2,000 rupees, 20 ancient gears, 5 ancient shafts, and 3 ancient cores to get the full set, so get to grinding out shrines and taking down Guardians!

Now That the Fashion Show’s Over…

There’s a lot of armor scattered across the vast expanse of Hyrule, and they all do different things. Use each one as you see fit in the battle to free the divine beasts and save Zelda and Hyrule in the process!
