In 2019, Minecraft is making the ultimate comeback in popularity. For those returning to the game after a long hiatus, the development team has made some monumental changes to the game. If you’re a Minecraft veteran trying to catch up to the modern version, or a new player looking to learn the ropes, this article is for you.
Today we will discuss the top 10 best Minecraft Armor Enchantments. Enchanting equipment is a vital part of the game when going on a long mining expedition, traversing the Nether, fighting a raid, or facing a boss. You won’t last long out there without armor, and your odds of survival increase exponentially if you’ve got some magic helping you out.
10. Thorns
If you play League of Legends, think of this enchantment as Thornmail. The Thorns armor enchantment will reflect a certain amount of damage dealt to you. This armor enchantment is ideal for clearing out waves of mobs such as zombies, spiders, and zombie pigmen. The problem with this enchantment is it’s only benefit requires you to take damage which makes the armor break very quickly. Also, trying to get hit isn’t the greatest combat strategy in the game.
9. Respiration
Next on our list is respiration. Respiration gives you the ability to breathe for a longer period when underwater. Respiration also improves your vision when submerged. Ideal for pillaging sunken ships and exploring underwater temples. The only drawback is there’s no other practical use for the enchantment, it’s pretty situational.
8. Unbreaking
Unbreaking can be applied to all equipment in-game. Unbreaking is great for long-term expeditions as it gives the equipment a longer life. For each level of this enchantment, unbreaking ignores a certain percentage of depreciation during use.
7. Mending
Mending is an even better version of unbreaking. This enchantment can also be used on any piece of equipment. With mending, equipment will be instantly repaired once the player gains experience. This enchantment is incredible as you can sustain equipment over long-term expeditions whether through mining or combat.
6. Feather Falling
Feather falling is only applicable to boots but very useful. Feather falling reduces the amount of fall damage players take. Extremely useful for exploring ravines, caves, chopping down trees, and teleporting to The End. This enchantment is pretty much paramount for exploring any steep biome or taking shortcuts down mountains without risking death. The only issue with this enchantment is that it’s pretty one-dimensional, only one use.
5. Aqua Affinity
Aqua Affinity is the next step for underwater exploration and resource mining. Aqua Affinity is a helmet enchantment that allows players to mine at normal speed when underwater. This is vital because you mine five times slower underwater, making mining quite the endeavor without Aqua Affinity.
4. Blast Protection
Blast Protection greatly reduces damage taken from explosions. This enchantment is great when taking on Creepers, Ghasts, and other players using TNT. As a bonus, players are also protected from knockback. The only issue is that it cannot be mixed with other enchantments such as Fire Resistance or Projectile Protection, so choose wisely.
3. Fire Resistance
Fire Resistance protects the player from lava and fire damage. This is vital for exploring the Nether, caves, ravines, and anywhere with lava or fire. It is also useful when fighting Blazes and Ghasts. Using Fire Resistance is crucial for surviving in any fiery environment, and greatly increases your odds of finding some good loot. Like blast resistance, you cannot combine this enchantment with other major protection enchantments.
2. Projectile Protection
If you’re fighting skeletons, Pillagers, or players, Projectile Protection is your best bet. This enchantment reduces the damage you take from any projectile (arrows, ghasts, blazes) by eight times the level of the enchantment. Most importantly, this works against the Ender Dragon’s attacks. Highly recommended, all-around great enchantment.
1. Protection
Protection is the most important of all defensive enchantments. This increases the overall defense rating of your armor by a percentage of four times the enchantment level. For example, if you have Protection level 4, you gain 16% damage reduction from all sources. If you don’t know what enemies you’ll face in your expeditions, Protection is the best way to mitigate as much damage as possible.
