Choose Your Space Path
Star Citizen will have you helming a ship as part of Squadron 42, a space military outfit that will chase down lawless brigands and lay down justice among the stars. After you put in your service you will be free to explore the stars, here's 5 things you'll love about this game.
1. Every Path Is Open
This game could not be more literally titled, I mean that in a good way. You are literally a citizen of the stars in this game and the universe will react exactly as the real universe would. If you choose to become a criminal you will be hunted and shunned by most of the regular community. If you become a loyal team member and work your way up the social ranks you can become a respected Captain and lead missions around the world. The Star Citizen gameplay allows you to venture out into the black and become what you want to become and that is what I'm most excited for.
2. Detailed Star Systems
This intense planet is one of the worlds you can dock at.
The level of detail in not only the ships and the worlds but the character themselves shows how much the creators of this game care about their product. There are going to be over 100,000 faces possible from the character customization which will allow for almost unprecedented levels of detail. I've already spent way too long creating characters in things like Skyrim and WoW, but I might end up never playing the game, just making faces. Even in the cockpit of the ships you can see the touch of detail as each screen and button gets a bit of animation. Every time you make a command on the controller the character will do something in the cockpit which just adds to that level or immersion that is so important in massive games like this.
3. The Single Player Experience
The single player mode that will lead you into the world is buried inside the Star Citizen gameplay online. You will be a part of Squadron 42 and defend your greater ship against any attacks as well as do missions that are still being fleshed out as part of this squad. This will teach you the first person shooter mechanics as well as the flying nuances inside the game. The option for co-op gameplay is there as well, you can have a buddy join in as your wingman on missions for Squadron 42. Once you go through the single player mode you'll be readily equipped to handle the real world.
4. Space Like You've Never Seen
Space is pretty sweet. Star Citizen makes sure you know that. There's asteroids and debris all around out there if you're a pirate they are useful to hide behind to make your raids. As a merchant you can use the space garbage as a safe place to traffic through to stay out of the sight of those that would plunder you. Just because space is a void of blackness doesn't mean that there isn't anything out there. This space sim is going to push the boundaries of PCs with their customization and rendering and the space atmosphere is no different.
5. You Can Die
You get one life. That isn't to say there aren't ways to save it but you get one. If you choose to be a part of a hostile boarding party a stray laser might just burn a hole right through your space helmet and end your game. The game itself is more about upgrading your ship so you don't have to take risks and if your ship is in danger you have the option of ejecting safely. In the lawful parts of the map anyone who is caught destroying escape pods without lawful reason to do so will be marked by the in-game government with a bounty. This sort of realistic approach will most likely keep people from needlessly murdering each other while at the same time keeping people cautious to protect their own skin. What do you think of having your mortality so faintly defined in this game?
