There is no video of the interview however, in a written up interview with Japanese magazine Famitsu and according to Dualshockers, Tetsuya Nomura from Square Enix (director of Kingdom Hearts III) explained that his team only received some small sample data of the Toy Story world from Pixar and that he didn’t expect his team would be able to accurately replicate the Toy Story world so well. The staff at Pixar was also quite surprised how well things turned out considering what little data they had provided for Square Enix on the Toy Story world.
Tetsuya also explained that the Toy Story world is already in an advanced development stage and it was ready to be showcased a long time ago, but because of Disney’s intentions and advertisement plans he had to wait for the reveal.
For those of you who don’t know, Kingdom Hearts III is a game developed and published by Square Enix, it is known for merging and crossing over worlds from many Disney films and Square Enix’s Final Fantasy series. The upcoming action role-playing game is the twelfth installment in the Kingdom Hearts series and will be released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Since the first Kingdom Heart in 2002, the ability to create high definition visuals and immersive worlds has greatly improved allowing the worlds in Kingdom Hearts III to have its own visual style with a variety of different gameplay gimmicks. Tetsuya mentioned that it’s a bit like making many games at the same time which makes it difficult.
Kingdom Hearts III is scheduled for release on the Xbox One and PS4 in 2018 (no exact date has been released) and although it hasn’t been announced for other platforms it could still be a possibility as Tetsuya told IGN “The Nintendo Switch is definitely a very interesting piece of hardware” and “for now, we want to focus on what platforms we’ve already announced we’re going to be releasing Kingdom Hearts 3 on. And so after, perhaps, maybe we can start thinking about other possibilities.”
