Gal Gadot, the actress who plays Wonder Woman in the DC Extended Universe, was the first to wish the superhero happy birthday. Through her Instagram account, she posted an image from the original comics, depicting the beginning of the child Diana’s life.

Though not a traditional “birth,” the Amazonian demigoddess was definitely born to be wonderful. Along with the picture, Gal wrote a beautiful message for the Goddess’s birthday. “Wonder Woman, my amazing Amazon, happy birthday! … You are as beautiful as Aphrodite, wise as Athena, swifter than Hermes, and stronger than Hercules – all the Gods are with you, and you are with us all to help make the world a better place.”
What a glorious message. Gal is currently working on an as-yet-unnamed Wonder Woman sequel. The timeline is set somewhere 70 years after the first one, this time focusing on the Cold War instead of the first World War. Gal will star alongside Game of Thrones star Pedro Pascal and Kristen Wiig who plays the villain Cheetah in this movie.
Gal finished her birthday message with “Thank you for changing my life, and for inspiring people worldwide to find their own superpower <3” adding a bit of sentimentality to the post. I know Gal may not speak for every woman in the world, let alone every person, but she definitely speaks for me in this instance. I am so glad Wonder Woman is around to let us know it is ok to embrace ourselves as we are, as powerful heroes in our own lives!
