One of the features that make Warframe so fun is the companion system. Even if you decide to play solo, these little buddies give you the comfort of knowing that you’re never truly alone.
They’re not just for display either, Warframes companions do a variety of things. Depending on the companion, they help collect materials, farm for rare items, and boost your damage just to name a few of their benefits. But all companions have one benefit in common, they fight with you.
Each companion either uses its claws, built-in weaponry, or an equipable weapon of your choice. It’s always nice to know that there’s someone else helping you deal damage against the hordes of baddies you’re facing.
Here are the best of these friendly critters that you should get as soon as you can. Which one’s your favorite?
5. Wyrm Prime
The Wyrm atac, but it also protec
The Wyrm Prime is… well, it’s a floating worm to be completely frank. It may not look like much but this thing can pack a punch, aside from using Sentinel weapons, it can also stop enemies around you with the Wyrm-exclusive mod Crowd Dispersion.
However, the main feature that makes the Wyrm Prime so great is the Wyrm-exclusive mod Negate, What Negate does is it will shield you from status effects. Status effects in Warframe are huge, if you’re not paying attention they can drain your armor, shields, health, and energy really fast. So having the ability to just shrug them off is amazing.
What the Wyrm Prime excels at:
- Blocking status effects:
The Negate mod will allow you to ignore a status effect every now and then. At max rank, you will be shielded from a status effect every five seconds, with a cooldown that low, you’ll be safe from tons of attacks that will weaken you.
- Stopping them dead in their tracks:
Crowd Dispersion is another mod for the Wyrm and Wyrm Prime that knocks down enemies around you. This will allow you more breathing room when a large group attacks. At max rank, it will knock down enemies within a 10-meter radius which is pretty good.
What makes this mod even better is that it only triggers when multiple enemies are nearby, so you don’t have to worry about your Wyrm Prime wasting it on just one enemy.
- Weapon versatility:
The Wyrm Prime is a Sentinel companion, meaning that you can swap its default weapon for most of the other Sentinel weapons you have. You can make the Wyrm Prime excel at singular targets, large groups of enemies, and anything in between.
Wyrm Prime Stats:
- Armor: 150
- Health: 225
- Shields: 300
How to get the Wyrm Prime:
Like most Primed stuff, the Wyrm Prime’s blueprints and parts are obtainable by cracking Void Relics or trading them with other players. A list of the Void Relics containing this companion’s blueprints and parts can be found on the “Wyrm Prime Wiki” link above.
4. Adarza Kavat
For those purrfect critical hits
If you’re not familiar with them, Kavats are basically the cats of Warframe, whereas Kubrows are the dogs. Kavats are usually better than Kubrows in the game which makes me think a lot of people in Warframe’s dev team are cat people…
The Adarza Kavat is the companion of choice for Eidolon hunts, purely because of the Adarza Kavat-exclusive mod Cat’s Eye. This mod boosts your critical chance, allowing you to quickly dispatch an Eidolon’s joints. It used to be even better because Cat’s eye once affected Operator damage too, but alas, it was nerfed a couple of years ago.
What the Adarza Kavat excels at:
- Helping you land critical hits:
When maxed, Cat’s Eye gives you and your allies a 60% critical chance boost for 10 seconds. Once the buff is over, it will activate again after 20 seconds. It will only trigger when there’s an enemy nearby so you don’t have to worry about wasting the buff outside of combat.
- Surviving:
Another mod that’s exclusive to the Adarza Kavat is Reflect. At max rank, this gives the Adarza Kavat a 40% chance to reflect any damage it receives and even boost that damage by 60%.
This is amazing for your Kavat’s survivability, especially if you decide to bring your Adarza Kavat to an Eidolon hunt where damage can come from any direction.
- Tek mod set:
The Tek mod set is meant entirely to boost Kavat gameplay, each mod in the set enhances your Kavat’s survivability and overall utility.
If you don’t know how mod sets work, each mod enhances a shared effect that all the mods in the set have.
For the Tek mod set, its effect is that your Kavat will mark a zone that deals damage to enemies in it. The more Tek mods you have equipped the higher the zone’s radius, duration, and damage. Some of the Tek mods even give you bonuses against enemies in the zone like enhanced critical damage.
Adarza Kavat Stats:
- Armor: 50
- Base damage: 80 (100% slash)
- Critical chance: 20%
- Critical multiplier: 2.0x
- Health (at max rank): 240
- Shields (at max rank): 210
- Status chance: 7.5%
How to get the Adarza Kavat:
You must first upgrade your Incubator with a Kavat Incubator Upgrade Segment. This upgrade segment can be researched in your Dojo’s Tenno Lab or you can get it from Hyekka Masters who have a 1.5% chance to drop its blueprint.
Once upgraded you can start incubating Kavats for 10 Kavat Genetic Codes and an Incubator Power Core. You get Kavat Genetic Codes by scanning Feral Kavats with a Codex or Synthesis Scanner. You get an Incubator Power Core by buying it for 35 platinum in the in-game market or buying its reusable blueprint for 50k credits and then crafting it.
You will then be given a choice of going for a random incubation or using Genetic Code Templates to get imprints. If you want a guarantee of getting an Adarza Kavat, you need to have 2 Adarza Kavat Imprints by getting it from a previously owned Adarza Kavat or trading it with another player. Otherwise, there is only a 50% chance that the Kavat you incubate will be an Adarza Kavat.
3. Panzer Vulpaphyla
Nine lives? Hm, cute
Vulpaphyla are fox-like creatures that have been overrun by the Infestations. The best quality that these creatures have is their ability to revive after death. Usually, with non-Sentinel companions, you have to revive them manually, and if you don’t do it in time, they die until the end of the mission.
Vulpaphyla each have their own mods, exclusive to each breed, that allow them to automatically revive. There is no limit to how many times they can revive which guarantees that they’ll constantly be at your side, assisting and dealing damage no matter what. Now, this quality alone makes every Vulpaphyla breed excellent, but what makes the Panzer Vulpaphyla the best is that it specializes in viral attacks, which is an amazing element that softens up enemies for more damage.
What the Panzer Vulpaphyla excels at:
- Being immortal:
The mod that causes the Panzer Vulpaphyla to revive is called Panzer Devolution. When equipped, whenever it’s killed, this Vulpaphyla will return to a larvae form and respawn. With the mod at max rank, it only takes 30 seconds for the Panzer Vulpaphyla to resurrect.
That’s not all, while in its larvae form, the Panzer Vulpaphyla will spit quills that deal viral damage to enemies that come close. So, even when it’s downed, this companion is still dishing out the pain.
- Viral attacks:
Aside from Panzer Devolution’s viral quills, the Panzer Vulpaphyla has another mod exclusive to it literally called Viral Quills. This allows your companion to fire quills at enemies every four seconds. The quills will release viral spores that can spread when you hit it or if its host dies.
These spores can proc viral status effects, which increase the amount of damage you deal to that enemy. Really useful against tanky and high-priority enemies.
- Tek mod set:
Confused? Though Vulpaphyla resemble foxes and don’t really look like Kavats, the game treats them as such. Even the Kavat wiki page states that they’re modular Kavats though that’s still up for debate.
Regardless, Vulpaphyla can use the Tek mods and will get its survivability and utility bonuses.
Panzer Vulpaphyla Stats:
- Armor: 50
- Base damage: 80 (100% slash)
- Critical chance: 20%
- Critical multiplier: 2.0x
- Health (at max rank): 270
- Shields (at max rank): 285
- Status chance: 7.5%
How to get the Panzer Vulpaphyla:
You first need to obtain a weakened Panzer Vulpaphyla in the Cambion Drift on Deimos. Tracking and tranquilizing a healthy Panzer Vulpaphyla doesn’t count, it needs to first be injured by the Infested mobs that roam the area. You could try looking for one with pheromones and then simply luring some Infested close to it so they’ll start fighting and get it weakened.
Then you must head over to Son in the Necralisk and purchase Mutagen and Antigen blueprints and craft them. The Mutagen and Antigen you pick will decide the properties and appearance of your pet so choose which ones suit you like.
After crafting, return to Son and select “Vulpaphyla Revivification”. Pick the weakened Panzer Vulpaphyla and your crafted Mutagen and Antigen, and you will see a preview of the Vulpaphyla you will get. Confirm to obtain it for 5k credits.
However, you still can’t name, Forma, or change your pet’s appearance yet. It also won’t give you Mastery Rank. To unlock all these, you must first rank up the Vulpaphyla to Rank 30, then return to Son and Gild it. This will cost 10 Son Tokens and 5k Entrati Standing. This will unlock those features and give your Vulpaphyla a mod Polarity but will reset your Vulpaphyla’s rank to zero.
2. Smeeta Kavat
One lucky cat
Here we have another Kavat, though the Smeeta is objectively more useful for general purposes than the Adarza Kavat which is more specialized. You could pretty much use the Smeeta Kavat in any mission type in the game and find it useful.
The main appeal to the Smeeta Kavat is an exclusive mod called Charm. Every few seconds, Charm gives you a random buff from a choice of 6 possible buffs. Each one of these buffs is incredible, even if Charm can be a little unpredictable, it’s absolutely worth it.
What the Smeeta Kavat excels at:
- Giving you luck:
At max rank, Charm has a 28% chance to trigger a buff every 27 seconds. That might sound inconsistent, and it really can be sometimes, but whenever you do get a buff, it’ll all feel worth it.
Here is the list of buff that Charm can give you:
- A 200% Crit chance boost for 30 seconds.
- All energy you use is refunded to you for 10 seconds.
- All loot you collect and the experience you gain is doubled for 120 seconds.
- You can reload instantly once. This buff will only expire once you reload.
- You will instantly ignore the next hit you take. You will also gain +150 overshields.
- Your Smeeta Kavat will spawn one rare resource from whatever planet/system you’re in.
- Drawing fire:
Mischief is another mod that’s exclusive to the Smeeta Kavat. At max rank, it turns your Kavat invisible for nine seconds and has a cooldown of seven seconds.
Apart from that, the mod will also create a decoy Kavat to draw enemy fire. The decoy will also attack enemies. It will have your Kavat’s 100% critical chance and 2x critical multiplier but only 50% of its health. Also, when the decoy dies, it will cause your Kavat’s invisibility to expire.
- Tek mod set:
Like the previous two companions on this list, the Smeeta Kavat can make good use of the Tek mod set to boost the Kavat’s survivability and utility.
Smeeta Kavat Stats:
- Armor: 50
- Base damage: 80 (100% slash)
- Critical chance: 20%
- Critical multiplier: 2.0x
- Health (at max rank): 300
- Shields (at max rank): 180
- Status chance: 7.5%
How to get the Smeeta Kavat:
You must first upgrade your Incubator with a Kavat Incubator Upgrade Segment. This upgrade segment can be researched in your Dojo’s Tenno Lab or you can get it from Hyekka Masters who have a 1.5% chance to drop its blueprint.

1. Helios Prime
Gotta scan ‘em all
Here it is, the go-to for players new and old. The main reason is because of the Helios-exclusive mod Investigator. This mod allows the Helios Prime to scan enemies and enter them into your codex.
Scanning enemies can be a huge pain in the behind, especially in high-level missions when there’s already so much going on. So, having someone else do it for you is a huge weight off your shoulders.
The codex is where you can see each enemy’s weaknesses and strengths, allowing you to properly mod for them. They also give you the models for each one in their entries and some cool lore for some enemies which is pretty neat.
You may be wondering, why did I say it’s for old players too? If you finish up the codex, you should no longer need the Helios Prime right? Well, that would be right if only Warframe isn’t a huge and continually growing game that keeps on adding content. New enemies, new items, new factions, all of these make the Helios Prime remain useful throughout the game.
What the Helios Prime excels at:
- Filling your codex:
At max rank, Investigator will scan enemies from up to 50 meters away. It will only take two seconds to complete a scan but will cost a scanner.
That cost might sound like a drag but once you have the Sol-Battery Widget for your Synthesis Scanner, it will gain infinite scanner charges and the Helios will be able to scan indefinitely.
- Finding Weaknesses
Another Helios-exclusive mod is Detect Vulnerability. Once you’ve fully scanned an enemy into the Codex, the next time you encounter them, the Helios Prime will make a target within 30 meters glow at a certain part.
If you fire at the glowing part, you will deal additional damage to them. At max rank, you will get 275% bonus damage for firing at their weak spot. That’s an amazing effect, especially for tough enemies. This effect will last for about 10 seconds.
- Weapon versatility:
Like the Wyrm Prime, the Helios Prime is a Sentinel companion, so you can exchange its default weapon for any other Sentinel weapon you have. The Helios and Helios Prime also have weapons that only they can use, these are their default weapons. the Deconstructor and Deconstructor Prime respectively.
Helios Prime Stats:
- Armor: 100
- Health: 250
- Shields: 100
How to get the Helios Prime:
Like most Primed stuff, the Helios Prime’s blueprints and parts are obtainable by cracking Void Relics or trading them with other players. A list of the Void Relics containing this companion’s blueprints and parts can be found on the “Helios Prime Wiki” link above.
