Now, if you can’t beat them, you might as well join them. There is no other alternative; the tank apocalypse is upon us once again, and we must join them, my frens if we want to get even a speck of LP. Once the match has entered the late game phase, tanks will be almost impossible to kill, and sometimes you just have to let them do their thing as you can’t kill them alone.
The only correct way of countering a tank champion is by picking a tank champion yourself and running the whole enemy team over like you’re driving a truck. As you might have guessed, today I’ll be listing some of the best tank champions in the game for the current patch! I’ll be listing these champions by their strength alone and how hard it is for them to die during a team fight. Now that you know that, let's get into this list!
10. Rammus
“This is an ARMORdillo. Get it?”
Not only is this champion built like an M1A1 Abrams tank, but he can also hit like one. Truth be told, you can certainly solo carry a match only with Rammus under a very important condition, which is that the enemy team picks at least 4 champions who only deal AD or physical damage. If they are dealing, magical damage Rammus won’t be useful at all.
You see, most of his kit is based around people hitting him with auto-attacks, and that shows as he can return the incoming damage with his W “Defensive Ball Curl.” Since he’s a jungle champion, he’s also great at ganking lanes because of his Q “Powerball,” which gives him a huge movement speed boost, and the E “Frenzying Taunt,” which forces a target only to attack him.
Because of the E “Frenzying Taunt,” he can completely disable the enemy hard carry from attacking his teammates. Also, the champion’s basic attacks get stronger the more armor he has. Rammus is a great tank who is hard to kill when going against an AD team, and he can certainly be on the front, blocking the incoming damage that was aimed at his team without sweating.
Why Rammus Is A Great Tank:
- Rammus can force someone to attack him with his E “Frenzying Taunt.” It is great for disabling the enemy hard carry from attacking your teammates.
- The W “Defensive Ball Curl” increases his armor and magic resistance, which is great for absorbing damage on the frontlines.
- He is great at ganking lanes.
- The R “Soaring Slam” deals magic damage and slows enemies, which is great for crowd control during team fights.
Rammus Is Strong Against:
- Viego
- Kindred
- Master Yi
- Bel’Veth
- Rengar
Rammus Is Weak Against:
- Fiddlesticks
- Wukong
- Lillia
- Evelynn
- Nunu & Willump

9. Nautilus
“They will all pay!”
It’s time to talk about one of the most annoying supports to deal with in the bot lane. If you’re an ADC player who had to experience playing against this creature. I am so sorry. You see, not only is he damn tanky, but he is also a CC machine. He can stun people with his auto-attacks because of his passive ability “Staggering Blow”, and stun them with his Q “Dredge Line” and R “Depth Charge.”
He can also slow anyone around him with the E “Riptide” and give himself a shield with the W “Titan’s Wrath.” All of these abilities are great when you want to support your ADC in the lane phase. Additionally, the champion is also great during team fights, as it takes a long time for him to die, especially when you have a few items on him. It is not a fun time dealing with him no matter what the stage of the match is.
Why Nautilus Is A Great Tank:
- Has a lot of CC in his kit.
- The W “Titan’s Wrath” gives him a shield to protect him from damage.
- He is great at engaging in fights.
- He can set up ambushes easier because of his abilities.
Nautilus Is Strong Against:
- Yuumi
- Karma
- Ashe
- Nami
- Xerath
Nautilus Is Weak Against:
- Taric
- Braum
- Renata Glasc
- Thresh
- Swain

8. Ornn
“Nobody ever says thank you… Sadge”
Time to talk about the champion, who everyone loves to have on their team but nobody likes playing for some reason. I tried him out a few times, and he seems fun, so I don’t understand why he isn’t played as much, especially when he’s so damn useful. You see, Ornn's special thing is upgrading the mythical items of his teammates with his passive ability, “Living Forge.”
The champion has almost everything. He can slow enemies with the Q “Volcanic Rupture”, do AoE damage with the W “Bellows Breath”, and knock people up with his E “Searing Charge.” And for the last ability, he can slow and knock people up with his R, “Call of the Forge God.” On top of all of that, he’s really hard to take down in a fight.
Even while the match is still in the lane phase, going against Ornn can be pretty damn tough if you don’t know what the hell you’re doing. I would say that he’s one of those niche champions that everyone knows about and loves but rarely gets picked or banned, which is a damn good thing if you ever wanted to play him, and I recommend that you do!
Why Ornn Is A Great Tank:
- Thanks to his passive ability “Living Forge,” he can upgrade the mythical items of his teammates, making them stronger and better.
- He has a lot of CC in his kit.
- He can be really hard to take down during team fights or the laning phase.
- The champion can knock up and slow down the whole enemy team with his R “Call of the Forge God.”
- He can deal AoE damage with his W “Bellows Breath,” which can be good for pushing waves.
- He doesn’t have to recall as often as other champions because he can just build himself different items from his passive ability.
Ornn Is Strong Against:
- Aatrox
- Gnar
- K’Sante
- Riven
- Malphite
Ornn Is Weak Against:
- Olaf
- Dr. Mundo
- Camille
- Nasus
- Singed

7. Dr. Mundo
“I AM MUNDO!”
If you were to ask someone, who is the most annoying tank to deal with currently? They’d probably say either Dr. Mundo or Leona. So let’s talk about our self-proclaimed doctor. When it comes to Mundo, he’s all about building health items and stacking as much health as possible. Because the more health he has, the longer he will survive in team fights, and because his R “Maximum Dosage” will regenerate all of his lost HP quickly.
So if you ever see a Mundo on low HP, just know that he will gain all of his HP back before you can even get close to him. His other abilities revolve around dealing with damage; for example, the Q “Infected Boneclaw” is great for poking in the laning phase and slowing down enemies.
The E “Blunt Force Trauma” gives him bonus attack damage depending on how much health he is missing and empowers his next auto-attack. While the W “Heart Zapper” shocks everyone in a small radius around Mundo. In the short term, Dr. Mundo is a huge punching meatball that can pretty much take a nuclear bomb right into his face and survive like nothing ever happened to him.
Why Dr. Mundo Is A Great Tank:
- Mundo can ignore or resist the first immobilizing ability that hits him because of the passive “Goes Where He Pleases.”
- Doesn’t have a mana bar, so you can cast your abilities as much as you want.
- His Q “Infected Boneclaw” is great for slowing targets who are far away so you can catch up to them.
- The W “Heart Zapper” shocks everyone and deals damage in an AoE radius.
- The more HP he has, the stronger he gets, as his E “Blunt Force Trauma” and R “Maximum Dosage” benefit a lot from it.
- The E “Blunt Force Trauma” increases his attack damage based on how much HP is missing.
- His ultimate “Maximum Dosage” can regenerate his whole HP back in seconds, which is great during team fights, especially if you’re on the frontline constantly taking damage.
Dr. Mundo Is Strong Against:
- Jayce
- Renekton
- Darius
- K’Sante
- Malphite
Dr. Mundo Is Weak Against:
- Glen
- Kled
- Nasus
- Riven
- Olaf

6. Amumu
“Will anyone give me a hug?”
Rammus just isn’t your style, but you want to play a tank in the jungle and take every single hit for your team so they don’t die quickly? Well, if that sounds like what you want to do, then this is the champion for you. When it comes to Amumu, he’s a tank that excels at crowd-controlling the enemy team with his ultimate ability, “Curse of the Sad Mummy,” which can stun and root anyone that gets hit by it.
It feels quite amazing when you hit the ultimate ability on at least 3–4 people. But to help him get close to the enemy so he can use his ultimate in a good way, he has his Q “Bandage Toss,” which allows him to hook onto anyone and get close to them. His E “Tantrum” also comes into great use as it reduces the amount of physical damage Amumu would take.
Amumu is a type of tank champion that yeets himself onto other champions so his team can successfully kill them, even if it means that he has to die. So if you manage to stun a lot of people with your ultimate but you die in the end, just remember that it was worth it as long as your team wins the fight.
Why Amumu Is A Great Tank:
- He can root and stun multiple people with his ultimate ability, “Curse of the Sad Mummy.”
- He is a great champion for starting fights and setting up ambushes.
- He takes reduced physical damage because of his E “Tantrum.”
- Amumu can easily get close to the enemy team because of the Q “Bandage Toss.”
- Amumu is good at clearing the jungle camps and ganking lanes.
- He can also be played in the support role.
- The Q “Bandage Toss” has two charges, so if you miss your first one it’s alright.
Amumu Is Strong Against:
- Rengar
- Rek’Sai
- Shyvana
- Lee Sin
- Master Yi
Amumu Is Weak Against:
- Nunu & Willump
- Olaf
- Hecarim
- Shen
- Udyr

5. Leona
“Let the sun guide your path.”
Let me introduce you to one of the most broken tank supports in the game. This champion is all about protecting her ADC in the laning phase while making sure to inflict as much mental pain as possible on the enemy.
While playing Leona, you’ll be able to stun a target with an auto-attack because of your Q “Shield of Daybreak.” If you’re wondering how to do that and get close to the enemy, you can either sit in a bush and surprise them or hook onto them with the E “Zenith Blade.” Additionally, I highly recommend that you use your W Eclipse” before hooking onto a target, as it reduces the amount of damage Leona takes in total.
But if you want to stun more people at once to save your teammates from death, you can do so by sending the whole sun down onto them with the R “Solar Flare.” It’s safe to say that the enemy won’t be having a fun time playing against this champion, especially during the early stages of the match, as it can be quite frustrating dealing with someone who is tanky while dealing no damage to Leona.
Why Leona Is A Great Tank:
- She can stun an enemy with her auto-attack because of the Q “Shield of Daybreak.”
- If the W “Eclipse” is active, the champion will take reduced damage.
- She is great for setting up ambushes in the laning phase.
- Leona can stun multiple people at once with her R “Solar Flare.”
- She is currently one of the tankiest supports in the game.
- Leona can hook onto a target with her E “Zenith Blade” to get close to the enemy.
Leona Is Strong Against:
- Yuumi
- Xerath
- Nautilus
- Karma
- Pantheon
Leona Is Weak Against:
- Zac
- Swain
- Taric
- Annie
- Shaco

4. Singed
“Take a deep breath now.”
If you want to annoy someone with your gameplay, then just play Singed and proxy their lane. Proxying is going between the first and second enemy turret and farming their minions. The way you’ll be able to do that is with your Q “Poison Trail,” which leaves a poisonous trail that deals damage over time. If the enemy gets close to you, you can flip them over your head like a burger with E “Fling” or slow them down with the W “Mage Adhesive.”
There is also his ultimate “Insanity Potion,” which increases all of his combat stats, and his Q “Poison Trail,” which applies grievous wounds to targets. In the short term, Singed is a very simple champion to play, and a fun fact about him is that he was one of the first-ever champions introduced into the game.
There aren’t a lot of people who play him currently because they think his kit is outdated and that he isn’t a strong tank, but they are wrong. Since he mainly deals AP damage, that means he can build AP items that give him a ton of health and damage together, which in the long run allows him to stay alive during fights longer, and he can easily dive the enemy under the turret and flip them to his teammates.
Why Singed Is A Great Tank:
- Because he builds a lot of HP items, he can easily run into the battle and destroy the enemy formation while staying alive.
- While running alongside a champion, he will gain a burst of movement speed.
- He is great at farming and clearing minion waves.
- One of the best champions to proxy a lane with.
- He can flip over enemies with his E “Fling.”
- His W “Mega Adhesive” is great for slowing down enemies.
- The R “Insanity Potion” increases all of his combat stats.
Singed Is Strong Against:
- Yasuo
- Renekton
- K’Sante
- Aatrox
- Mordekaiser
Singed Is Weak Against:
- Jayce
- Urgot
- Teemo
- Gangplank
- Olaf

3. Cho’Gath
“Is it dinner time yet?”
Let’s talk about the tank, who gets progressively stronger as he eats more because the more HP he has, the stronger and better he gets. The way that this champion does that is with his ultimate ability “Feast,” which increases his HP and health. The more he uses it, the bigger he gets, and the bigger he gets, the more damage he can take.
Cho’Gath can also silence people with the W “Feral Scream” and knock them up into the air with the Q “Rupture.” It’s great for breaking the enemy’s formation or separating them from one another so your team can kill them. Cho’Gath is a fun tank to play, especially when you enter the late game stage and you have over 5,000 HP in total. With a few items, nobody will even be able to get you below 30% HP if you know what you’re doing.
Why Cho’Gath Is A Great Tank:
- The more he uses his ultimate “Feast,” the stronger he gets, and the stronger he gets, the more damage he can tank for the team.
- The ultimate “Feast,” also deals true damage.
- Cho’Gath can silence multiple people at once, so they can’t cast abilities with the W “Feral Scream.”
- His Q “Rupture” is great for knocking multiple targets into the air at once.
- In the late game stage, Cho’Gath can have up to 5,000 HP and more.
Cho’Gath Is Strong Against:
- Kennen
- Kayle
- Poppy
- Pantheon
- Warwick
Cho’Gath Is Weak Against:
- Udyr
- Akshan
- Urgot
- Zac
- Cassiopeia

2. Sion
“I only see red!”
Now, this champion works similarly to Cho’Gath to some degree. Sion can also gain HP, but in a very different and unique way. He can increase his HP when he kills anything that’s alive. That passive comes from his W “Soul Furnace,” which also gives him a shield when activated. The more you kill, the stronger you are. But Sion also has a knock-up ability from his Q “Decimating Slash.”
He can turn himself into an unstoppable train with the R “Unstoppable Onslaught,” where he crashes into the enemy team head first. His E “Roar of the Slayer” is great against enemy tanks as it lowers their armor and slows them down for a short time. The champion is great for running into battle if you’re far away from your team or if you need to knock a lot of people up into the air to show them who’s boss.
Why Sion Is A Great Tank:
- The more enemies he kills, the more HP he gains, which works similarly to Cho’Gath.
- His W “Soul Furnace” gives him a shield as well, so he can survive longer in fights.
- The passive ability of “Glory in Death” turns him into a spooky ghost that beats up enemies until time runs out.
- Sion can reduce the amount of armor that the enemy has with his E “Roar of the Slayer.”
- His ultimate ability, “Unstoppable Onslaught,” is great for charging into battle and getting up close and personal with the enemy team.
- While using his ultimate ability, “Unstoppable Onslaught,” Sion can’t be stopped by any CC abilities.
Sion Is Strong Against:
- Yasuo
- Kenne
- Rumble
- Akali
- Malphite
Sion Is Weak Against:
- Gwen
- Cassiopeia
- Yone
- Vayne
- Illaoi

1. Shen
“I am your guardian angel.”
And now for the best tank in the game currently, we have none other than Shen himself. I mean, it’s pretty damn obvious this guy can save anyone from his team across the whole map because of his ultimate “Stand United,” where Shen starts teleporting to the target he aimed at, giving them a shield and spawning at their location once the charge time is over.
It’s quite overpowered, especially if you have some special snowflakes on your team who have no damn clue what they’re doing so you can save them across the whole map. The champion also has a dash from his E “Shadow Dash,” which can also taunt a target and force them to attack Shen. He can also spawn a bubble on his sword from his W “Spirit’s Refuge,” where anyone from your team standing in the said bubble will be able to dodge all auto-attacks aimed at them.
He is the ultimate savior in the League and can even be considered a guardian angel for many. Additionally, players who don’t play against Shen that often will always be surprised by the amount of damage this champion can deal to someone, and it’s quite insane. You can always use it to your advantage to get yourself a kill or two when playing the champion.
Why Shen Is A Great Tank:
- He can shield and teleport to any teammate with his ultimate, “Stand United.”
- Shen is capable of dealing a lot of damage and can always surprise the enemy, which is great for cheesing yourself a kill or two in the early game.
- He doesn’t have a mana bar, so you don’t have to worry about your mana pool.
- Shen can taunt anyone as long as he dashes through them with the E “Shadow Dash.”
- The champion can also spawn a bubble that protects anyone who stands in it against auto-attacks.
- Anytime he casts an ability, he gains a shield for himself because of his passive ability “Ki Barrier.”
Shen Is Strong Against:
- Tahm Kench
- Wukong
- Volibear
- Sejuani
- Malphite
Shen Is Weak Against:
- Vayne
- Illaoi
- Cassiopeia
- Olaf
- Warwick
