Katanas are weapons designed for those that wish to KILL their enemies. They are very light and deal purely cutting damage(Topper is an exception). They do decent damage against light armor and still reasonably good damage against medium armor, but are kinda struggling vs heavy armor - at this point, you switch to the Topper!

5. Ninja Blade
Hard times are coming…
Ninja blades can be found on Shinobi Thieves, Holy Nation Outlaws, Tech Hunters, UC Samurais, Empire Peasants, and like stated previously, pretty much EVERYWHERE. Ninja Blades look cool, they cut well and they fit in the secondary slot but are still being outperformed by standard katanas. They’re still lethal though and designed to kill everything that moves!
What makes the Ninja Blade great:
- More armor penetration than Katana
- Weighs 1 kilogram
- Good for training your characters!

4. Wakizashi
A secondary swiggity-swosh!
Wakizashi katanas are being carried sometimes by nobles in The Great Desert. They are also small enough to fit in the secondary weapon slot and you usually use this thing when one of your arms was chopped off or crippled. An excellent weapon if you’re fighting indoors!
What makes Wakizashi great:
- You get a bonus to attack while indoors
- 10% bonus damage to humans
- Probably the best last-resort weapon!

3. Katana
Hands too big for that thing!
Katanas are probably the most common weapons to find in the world of Kenshi. You can find them on bandits, special NPC’s, Samurais in the TGD, and pretty much… everywhere. A meitou-grade katana can deal x2.20 cutting damage and you’ll want to use this to KILL and not to spare.
What makes the Katana great:
- High cutting damage
- x1.20 blood loss
- Weighs 2 kilograms(doesn’t require strength)

2. Nodachi
A katana with an improved reach!
Nodachi is basically a prolonged katana. It deals far more damage than any other katana and can hit more people due to its reach. It’s great if you wanna effortlessly cut off limbs and make sure that people bleed to death. An excellent weapon that only suffers against heavy armor users!

- Long reach, allowing to deal damage to multiple targets
- Highest cutting damage in the game

The meitou version can be stolen or taken from… Savant. That guy is a douche and peel off your skin, so I advice you to take a look in weapon shops!
1. Topper
The Topper is large, my character is just far larger…
Toppers are probably my favorite katanas in the whole game - A meitou-grade Topper can deal 2.42x cutting damage and slightly ignore armor due to its slight blunt damage. It also doesn’t have the debuffs that the Nodachi katana has, which makes this the only katana that’s effective against katanas. Simply the best, IMO!
What makes the Topper great:
- Decent against robots/skeletons
- Slight increase in blunt damage
- Doesn’t have the same debuffs that the Nodachi has
