Far Cry 5 takes place in the USA, the land where you have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of the best perks possible….But how will you spend this freedom to save Hope County with the most ease and grace? Don’t fret, our eager cop, we’re going to get you through the top ten perks that will have Jacob, John, Joseph, and even Faith, exactly where they should be: buried like the Seeds they are. Let’s just hope others don’t grow in their place….

PSA: There are many ways to play this game; our list details a more stealth-related build that was found to be a more efficient way to play, while some perks are more general. We will denote which are which as you read.

10. Grapple (General)

An early easy perk, Grapple.

There’s a lot to “grapple” within this game and small cliff faces and mountains are unfortunately one of them.

  • This ability allows you to scale these small faces with ease, giving you the drop on an outpost or in a hunting situation
  • With grappling, you can reach places to survey the roads, outposts, or shootouts happening in the street below
  • The perk only costs one point, so it is easily attainable and a good starter perk to get on the up and up (no pun intended) in the game

Grapple Perk Details: (1 SP) - Unlocks the grapple tool. Find grapple spots in the world to climb.

9. Harvest Master (General)

Get the most out of your farm skills with the Harvest Master perk.

Are you having a hard time saving up money for those Prestige Items and Vehicles? Well, that’s what the crazy mid-west, mid-apocalypse will do to you. Don’t fret, our little police officer hero, we’ve got you covered. Look no further than the Harvest Master perk.

  • While the cost for this perk is8 points,  it is a worthy investment for the monetary outcome…who said video games couldn’t include budgeting?!
  • Plants are more easily acquirable throughout the game than you’d realize, so the resale for double the price is a great way to get money fast
  • On your plant foraging missions, hunting is an easy second way to bring in double-income on anything that you can shoot down…a good old Western way to make a living!

Harvest Perk details: (8 SP) - Double your loot reward from plants and animals.

8. Parachute, Wing Suit, and Airdrop (Stealth)

At a cost of 1 point for this perk, you get a parachute you don't even have to refold yourself!

The quickest route from A to B, this perk makes you a real-life flying squirrel.

Hold on to your wingsuit, this is a whole new variety of video game fast travel.

A part of our minds was adding this simply for the chaos it brings, but in reality, it's a super useful way to get from A (the sky) to B (the ground).

  • This perk is the first in a TRIFECTA series with Wing Suit and Airdrop: the wingsuit will get you places fast from the sky while AirDrop allows you to fast travel and be dropped FROM THE SKY to your desired location.
  • You have some time while floating from above to survey your surroundings allowing the ability to, find a better drop point as well as attack from above, perfect for well-orchestrated takedowns
  • This stops you from dying when you can eventually wingsuit or airdrop into a place, which is always useful…

Parachute Perk details: (1 SP) - Unlocks a parachute to deploy while falling.
Wingsuit Perk details: (2 SP) - Unlocks the wingsuit for gliding fun.
Airdrop Perk details: (10 SP) - Unlocks the option to arrive by air-drop when you fast travel to a location.

7. Sneaky Sprint & Ghost (Stealth)

With the Sneaky Sprint perk, you're an absolute assassin. A quick one at that.

This perk makes you as close to a "Ghost" as is possible.

If you’ve played any stealth-related game, the only real way to get from A to B is slowly. With Sneaky Sprint, this game opens a whole new speed to stealth. The name makes this perk pretty self-explanatory: you're an assassin ghost. Like Casper the ghost…just with an SMG.

  • “Ghost” is an added perk after ‘Sneaky Sprint” (Which only cost 11 points total), which gives you the most heightened stealth abilities possible in Far Cry 5
  • This perk makes it easy to get a quick takedown on some closely clustered (and unaware) enemies
  • This is a great ammo saver as you can attack enemies at a much closer range more accurately

Sneaky Sprint Perk details: (4 SP) - Move much faster while crouched.
Ghost Perk details: (7 SP) - Make less noise when moving. Falling damage is reduced.

6. Locksmith (General)

If you're looking for a way through locks, this perk is your key.

An assassin-based perk, the investment of 6 points here will give you a bigger payment later. Plus, who doesn’t love a cop turned robber? You’re stealing from the bad guys…so I guess you’re a more Robin Hood type afterall…

  • Procuring cash and treasures in this game is crucial and for a lot of your Prepper Stash locations, this perk will be necessary to find them
  • This perk also allows you to lockpick doors which allows you to sneak into outpost facilities for an added drop on the Seeds’ armies
  • This perk is a level above the Repair Torch perk. While the Repair Torch perk for car repairs can be somewhat useful, if you’re acquiring enough money throughout the game, this is the better perk to get that cold hard cash

Locksmith Perk details: (6 SP) - Lockpick safes and doors that do not require a keycard.

5. Leadership (General/Stealth)

What's a US-based game without a little bit of leadership?

This one’s all about good old-fashioned fighting buddies who’ve got your back, and with this perk, your front too.

  • You don’t have to build up to get this perk, you can buy it from the menu as soon as you have six points
  • An extra “Guns For Hire” gives you the ability to have two viable companions when you’re trying to flank an outpost and also have a takedown buddy
  • We LOVE some of the Guns for Hire, how can you pick just one? The ability to have Cheeseburger and Grace Armstrong?! At the same time?! Sign us up!

Leadership Perk details: (6 SP) - Unlock an additional slot in your squad to let you play with two Guns for Hire in single-player mode.

4. Additional Holster (General)

Perk up with this extra gun slot.

What does the USA love more than guns? More guns. This perk gets you just there.

  • A second-tier perk that allows you to carry 3 weapons total, useful if you need to have weapons for multiple situations like stealth for hunting, an outpost shootout, or bringing down a car, boat, or plane
  • Useful for when you’re stuck in a real shoot-out and need that additional weapon and ammo you would’ve been missing without this perk…a real lifesaver!
  • There are too many cool weapons to NOT have three on you at a time!

Additional Holster Perk details: (8 SP) - Carry a 3rd weapon of any type in your weapon wheel.

3. Rifle Ammo Bag (General)

Image
Body Image

What's a gun without the bullets? With this perk, you'll never have to ask.

Rifles are a big plus in this game but with lower magazine sizes, this perk provides a great way to keep your rifles always ready to play.

  • With this perk, the maximum rifle ammo is increased from 150 to 270
  • If you love the .50 MBP as much as we do, you’ll be happy to hear that the maximum .50 cal ammo increased from 10 to 25
  • This perk also applies to the arcade version of the game, so it’s a win-win for the 9 points you spend on this perk

Rifle Ammo Bag Perk details: (9 SP) - Carry more rifle and 50 cal ammo.

2. Rifle Mastery (General)

Image
Body Image

Rifle Mastery makes you the Jason Bourne of Hope County.

As the basic plot of this game is your rise to becoming the most heroic bad-ass cop ever, the journey would be incomplete without the “ultimate mastery of guns” perk: Rifle Mastery. Having said that, this game does offer a variety of different weapon masteries, from Close Combat Mastery to Heavy Weapons Mastery, so pick the one that best fits your play style and make sure it coordinates with the Ammo Bag Perk you pick seen in 3. on our list above.

  • Easily attainable as a new player to increase overall combat ability
  • Increases speed of reloading, aiming and weapon switching which is useful if for some RARE reason you miss your target
  • Gun sway and bullet spread are also reduced, so you’ll be as accurate as possible

Rifle Mastery Perk details: (7 SP) - Reload, aim and switch rifles and sniper rifles faster. Swamp and bullet spread are reduced.

1. Health Boost 1, 2, 3, 4 (General)

Image
Body Image

Health Boost perks keep blood where it should be, inside you.

This fits perfectly into our survivalist perks…quite literally because it’ll keep you alive for longer and in this game, that’s a really really big deal. The biggest deal of all really, which is why it’s ranked our number one perk.

  • With even just the first Health Boost offering an extra 50% health increase, you can be 1 and ½ times the fighter against these crazy rednecks than before
  • There is more than one health increase to be had here, with another increase to 200%, 250%, and 300% so you can be as close to a real-life superman as possible. Especially for some of the bigger outposts, trickier enemies and bosses, or unforeseen bear attacks, this extra health can come in handy
  • Point expenditure on this one is large, but the ease with which you can demolish a crowd exponentially increases the overall ease of the game

Health Boost 1 Perk details: (6 SP) - Increase max health by 150%.
Health Boost 2 Perk details: (7 SP) - Increase max health by 200%.
Health Boost 3 Perk details: (8 SP) - Increase max health by 250%.
Health Boost 4 Perk details: (9 SP) - Increase max health by 200%.
