Beyond the order of civilization lurks the power of the wilds. These primal forces command the elements that make up the world, its secrets guarded by ascetic servants of nature known as druids.
Manipulators of nature and beast speakers, druids are one of 5th edition Dungeons & Dragons' most iconic classes! These protectors of nature strive to safeguard the fickle balance between civilization and the wilds.
Soothing rampaging beasts, beating trees at chess and convincing the king of needing an indoor garden are but a taste of the myriad of adventures druids embark on, some so perilous that one might not return…unless they are well prepared.
Eat your vegetables, polish your bark and convince the stampeding beasts to unionize, for tonight we delve into mother earth’s mysteries to discuss the best items for druids in 5th edition!
Keep in mind that wondrous items are an optional rule in 5th edition, so make sure your game uses them before buying your DM a potted cactus from your local flower shop.
10. Moon Sickle.
A Moon Sickle is a Druid and Ranger exclusive weapon. Wielding such an item grants you a bonus to attack and damage rolls made with it, as well as a bonus to your spell attack rolls and the saving throw DCs of your spells based on its rarity.
As if it weren’t good enough already, you can keep your allies up and going with it too, for when you cast a healing spell you can add a d4 to the healing done!
Why the Moon Sickle is Great.
- Spellcasting with a bite: An item that bolsters both your Spellcasting prowess and your melee combat is any druid’s best friend.
- An armed focus: You can use the sickle as a spellcasting focus. This means you need not drop it or substitute if you’d rather sling spells from afar.
- Extra Sustain: That extra d4 healing can prove extra useful in a pinch, picking allies up from death’s door with low-level spells!

9. Staff of the Woodlands.
Only in the hands of your druid, this powerful magic item’s potential can be unleashed!
The staff has 10 charges that you can expend to cast several useful spells. It’s one of the few items to grant the ability to cast level 6 and 5 spells.
Why the Staff of the Woodlands is Great.
- Extra Spellcasting: Each spell cast by the staff is a spell slot that you save up. This means that you can greatly increase the number of spells you can cast in a day with it!
- Safer Journeys: Without expending a charge, you can cast the pass without a trace from the staff, greatly reducing the chance of a threatening encounter finding its way to the group.
- A little bit of shade: As an action, you can plant the staff on the ground, it then turns into a tree. Perfect for getting some rest or a nice place to share stories.

8. Insignia of Claws.
One for the moon druids out there, the Insignia of Claws is one of the few magic items out there that empower your natural weapons, the only kind of weapons beasts have.
Why the Insignia of Claws is Great.
- Magical Damage: While the +1 bonus to attack and damage is nice, the best part is that it makes natural weapons deal magical damage, bypassing the kind of resistances most mid to high CR monsters have.
- Animal-friendly: Unlike some wondrous items, the insignia keeps its potency when in beast form, so your wild shape benefits from it, keeping your beasts competitive.

7. Dragon Scale Mail.
Since druids are prohibited from wearing metal armor, donning a set of Dragon Scale Mail will greatly bolster your Arm0or Class (AC).
Why the Dragon Scale Mail is Great.
- High AC: Scale Mail has a base Armor Class of 14 + Your Dexterity Modifier (Maximum 2). That means that thanks to its +1 bonus, you’ll have an AC of 15 or higher!
- Draconic Resistance: As if it weren’t enough, this armor makes you more durable against dragons, from advantage on Saving Throws to survive their breaths to resistance to one damage based on the Dragon that provided the scales.

6. Necklace of Prayer Beads.
In the hands of your druid, these prayer beads’ power can be brought forth, unleashing powerful spells in the blink of an any that can alter the course of the battlefield!
The necklace has 1d4+2 magic beads and each contains a spell that you can cast as a bonus action even if it normally takes a whole action!
Why the Necklace of Prayer Beads is Great.
- More Spells: Spellcasting is the lifeblood of any spellcasting class. This means that the more spells you have, the better it is, and that’s exactly what this necklace gives!
- Action Economy: Greater restoration, Bless, Wind Walk. These are just some of the spells contained within the beads, meaning you can cast them as a bonus action once per day, freeing up your action to dominate the field.

5. Scimitar of Speed.
This +2 Scimitar is made deadlier by the fact that you can make one attack with it as a bonus action, perfect for a class lacking the extra attack feature like the druid.
Why the Scimitar of Speed is Great.
- A flurry of Slashes: Since you can attack a bonus action with this weapon, you could easily cast a spell and cut down a foe in a single round!
- Sharper than Sharp: Scimitars are one of the few weapons druids are proficient with. Since this is a +2 magical weapon, this trusty Scimitar will always be a good choice.

4. Sentinel Shield.
This magical shield grants your druid advantage on Initiative checks and Perception checks. Not only are these benefits comparable to a feat, but you can also kiss last place in the initiative order goodbye.
Why the Sentinel Shield is Great.
- Surprised no more: Wisdom is, commonly, a druid’s highest ability. Tie advantage on Perception checks to that and those pesky assassins trying to sneak attack you will be spotted before they can even say hide.
- Call to action: Druids are powerhouses with their plethora of spells, animal forms, and combat abilities. The Sentinel Shield lets you make the most out of them by raising your chances of going early in the initiative.
- Free slot: Unlike most wondrous items, the Sentinel Shield does not take an attunement slot. You can wield this powerful item with benefits akin to a feat without giving up a single magical piece of loot!

3. Rod of Absorption.
While holding a Rod of Absorption, you can use your reaction to absorb a spell that is targeting only you and not with an area of effect, canceling the spell and storing its energy.
This energy can be recycled if you are a spell caster. This means that, as a druid, you can convert the energy stored in it into spell slots to cast spells you have prepared!
Why the Rod of Absorption is Great.
- Nullify threats: You can completely cancel spells with the Rod of Absorption as long as they only target you. Not advantage, not resistance, full-on canceling them is a terrifying feat.
- Plethora Spells: While it can only store up to 50 levels of energy throughout its existence, it also means that you can get up to 50 levels worth of spells out of it, increasing the number of spells you can cast in a day greatly.

2. Staff of Swarming Insects.
While holding this staff your druid can spend some of its 10 charges to summon giant insects or call down a plague.
Additionally, you could convince an army of harmless insects to crawl out of the staff in a cloud to obscure the area for anyone but you!
Why the Staff of Swarming Insects is Great.
- Crowd Control: Obscurement is a very powerful tool. Heavy Obscurement grants the blinded condition, a terrifying status bound to make your foes cry in rage!
- Force Multiplier: You can bring several giant insects into the gray. Whether they work as distractions, take damage for you and the like, an extra pair of antennae can take a load off from the party.

1. Amulet of Health.
While wearing it, your druid’s Constitution score becomes a whopping 19!
More Hit Points, better Concentration saves, it grants all of these benefits to make sure you’re up and healthy for longer.
Why the Amulet of Health is Great.
- More Durability: A higher constitution translates to more Hit Points, something all classes benefit from.
- Better Concentration: As a spellcaster with many concentration spells, druids need a good constitution to make sure they pass their saves, and 19 constitutions is nothing to scoff at.
- Stronger Beasts: Since it’s an amulet, you can benefit from the Amulet of Health’s effect while wild-shaped, increasing the Hit Points of your animal self!
