15. Dance In The Vampire Bund
Akira Kaburagi doesn’t believe in vampires whatsoever and feels uncomfortable whenever they’re brought up in conversation, but he doesn’t know why. After suffering a severe head injury years ago, he lives a generally peaceful life until he meets Mina. Somehow, she manages to resurface memories inside of him he had no idea existed, and he suddenly finds himself protecting Mina with no clear reason.
However, Akira’s secret is incredibly strange, even for Mina. He comes to the discovery that he is a werewolf and that he swore to always protect the Vampire Queen, even at the cost of his own life. Now, it is up to the characters to discover exactly how deep their bond goes, as they dance to a dangerous existence in the Vampire Bund.
Vampire Bund is interesting in that it has a surprising amount of mystery, and that’s a hidden gem when it comes down to it. It makes the whole story even more interesting in general, and the characters play very well off of it. The vampire anime community really embraced this show at its peak.
What We Love About Dancing In The Vampire Bund
- The animation and character designs are unique and beautiful, with fluid movements and nice textures overall. The character models also don’t look like carbon copies of each other, which is a nice change.
- The storyline is unique, and Akira’s secret is handled pretty well instead of being a plot contrivance. The amnesia actually works pretty well compared to most animes.
- The theme is decently conveyed, and the length of the show itself works for the story it's trying to tell. Not only that, but everything is well put together and better told.
14. Noblesse: Awakening
After awakening in South Korea after being asleep for 820 years, Rai decides to travel in search of his once loyal servant, Frankenstein, who he suddenly finds out is the director of Ye Ran High School. Desiring to learn more about modern human civilization, Rai enrolls in school. As he learns about the world around him, he also works to prevent humans and other supernatural entities from destroying the world as they know it.
Noblesse is often criticized for being slightly too distant from the vampire genre, but that doesn’t stop it from being a really fascinating show with a stellar story. The show was off to a rocky start, but it managed to get back on its feet and become something great.
What We Love About Noblesse Awakening
- The voice acting is stellar, with no room for error. Everything is well put together, professional, and very well done in terms of setup.
- The setting of South Korea is an interesting one, and well done in terms of portrayal. It’s nice to see an anime portrayed outside of Japan, and the setting is absolutely beautiful in terms of design.
- The high school setting doesn’t feel overdone or out of place. It feels like it belongs in a particular style, and this seems to fit despite being two very different things.
13. Seraph Of The End: Vampire Reign
Kureto Hiiragi discovers that a large group of vampires will be meeting in Nagoya, preparing for their attack on the Imperial Demon Army’s main force in Tokyo, Japan. Led by Guren Ichinose, Yuuichirou’s team is chosen to intercept and destroy the vampire nobles.
As the mission approaches, the members of the Shinoa teamwork toward mastering their weapons and working on their relationships with each other. Yuuichirou needs to gain enough power to slay the nobles and save Mikalea before he succumbs to a deadly curse.
The character interactions are the best part of Vampire Reign, and the Shinoa team interactions made for some of the best fandom discourse. The show itself is unique and well written, according to the community, and the story, in general, has more variation than other vampire shows in terms of world and design.
What We Love About Seraph Of The End: Vampire Reign
- The character interactions, like the fandom, tend to agree, are some of the best parts of the series, and it’s overall very entertaining to watch. Mikaela isn’t a typical damsel in distress, either, and no character treats her like one.
- The animation, once again, is absolutely beautiful and deserves any credit it has ever been given. Things are sleek, sharp, and very well done.
- The character designs are unique, varied, and the world around them really compliments every one of their individual styles. Not only that, but they fit really well with the vampire world.
12. Strike The Blood
His potential power is feared, so the Lion King Organization sends an appreciation sword-shaman, Yukina Himeragi, to monitor Kojou and kill him if he proves to be a threat to society. Eventually, they are forced together by unfortunate chance, and as Kojou adjusts to his unfamiliar and powerful abilities, they work together to protect the city from the chaotic forces hell-bent on destroying it.
Strikes The Blood is fun in that it has a dynamic cast of characters that are popular among the vampire anime community, and a story that works in a world that’s developed in such a secluded environment. The show itself is slightly obscure, but overall a hidden gem in terms of the genre.
What We Love About Strike The Blood
- The design of Itogami Island is beautiful, with the nature scenes putting other anime to shame. Just because it’s a dark, vampire show doesn’t mean it can’t be beautiful.
- The cast of characters bounces off of each other extremely well, and each of their dynamics and interactions feels very authentic in terms of when and where they speak to each other. No one feels immature, either, despite their age.
- It’s a great show for an older anime, and nothing feels particularly overdone or cliched despite newer things arriving on the horizon. It’s definitely worth a look.
11. Castlevania
Castlevania is debated on whether or not it is actually good, especially considered how it was developed by Netflix, but the story itself isn’t terrible at all. The plot is rather entertaining, and the animation in general is fairly decent. Calling Castlevania bad would be a stretch and one that wouldn’t really fit with its overall makeup.

- For an anime primarily made by an American streaming service, it isn’t terrible in terms of voice acting. In fact, it’s actually quite good, to the surprise of everyone. It’s definitely a hidden him in that respect.
- This show definitely feels like one of the most “vampire-like” out of all of them, meaning that it really fits the genre out of those on the list. It had all of the gothic and horror aspects down pat.
- The animation is sleek, the character designs rightly terrifying, and everything about Castlevania is intense and well done.
10. Moon Phase
However, Kouhei is unaffected by the bite, and Hazuki is frustrated. Hoping to still escape her castle and her possessive butler Vigo, Hazuki has Kouhei help her. With the assistance of his exorcist cousin Seji Midou, they escape unharmed. Once Hazuki is free, she leaves for Japan in search of her mother.
Things seem to be back to normal when Kouhei arrives home. That is until he finds Hazuki stuck in his home, and he allows her to stay for some time. At the same time, other vampires are searching for Hazuki, and Kouhei is suddenly caught up in a supernatural adventure.
Moon Phase is unique in that the main vampire looks nothing like a vampire. It also helps that her design is actually quite cute, and makes for some entertaining comedic moments and interesting fan art interpretations among the community. It’s actually a fun journey and definitely recommended.
What We Love About Moon Phase
- Hazuki’s design is adorable, and it’s a nice deviation from the typical terrifying vampire look. Her cat ears are adorable, as the unconventional nature of her personality as a vampire is a nice change.
- Once again, for an older anime, it’s very well done and the story is interesting. It is nice how the characters don’t completely get along at first, and it makes for a very unique story.
- The setting in Germany is portrayed beautifully, and it pays homage to the old vampire origin stories of the original genre. It’s a nice change, compared to most surroundings.
9. Diabolik Lovers
After meeting them, Yui questions exactly why her father would have sent her here, and why she’s experiencing these odd emotions in her chest. With each brother significantly crueler than the last, Yui’s life becomes more intense than ever before. Days turn into nights and things become darker and crazier by the second.
Diabolik Lovers is controversial for the fact that it involves some non-consensual moments and its overall sexual violence, but the story itself is interesting to watch in terms of character dynamics and world-building. It also has its fair share of spin-offs, other shows similar to it, and even games, so one cannot deny that it was successful.
What We Love About Diabolik Lovers
- It’s intensity. Definitely, it’s intensity. It’s slightly controversial, but the character's interactions with each other really make the show and the story.
- The character designs are actually unique. In plenty of anime with multiple male love interests, many of the male characters have the exact same designs. But these don’t, and that’s a breath of fresh air with shows like these.

Despised by Vampires for his profession and by Humans for the blood in his veins, D relentlessly pursues his prey for a price.
Vampire Hunter is dark, well-written, and well animated. It’s a fast-paced roller coaster that fans love, and it was received fairly well on its release date. It’s a great addition to the collection of different vampire animes out there, and very enjoyable for those who want a more gothic taste to their vampire stories.
What We Love About Vampire Hunter D
- People love how the show is fast-paced, and I couldn’t agree more. It’s a journey from start to finish. It’s fun, intense, interesting, and it never feels like things slow down.
- D is a dark, cold character that has his sordid past, but that’s what makes him such an amazing and interesting protagonist. Everything about him screams “vampire genre” and that’s exactly what the show has been aiming to achieve throughout its runtime.
- The story is complex, gothic, and the visuals definitely fit it. Everything is great, gorgeous, intense, and wonderful. The plot doesn’t feel contrived or boring, and everything about it is overall very intricate.
7. Black Blood Brothers
Red Bloods are the humans, Black Bloods are the vampires, and the Mochizuki Brothers are Old Blood, the very last descendants of an elite group of ancient vampires. However, when Kotaru is abducted by the Kowloon Children, Jirou has no choice but to fight the Children to the death for a second time.
Brothers had a more historical feel to it, and that makes it entertaining in a different way compared to the others, as you actually feel as if you’ve been transported to a different time with vampires. It also explores vampire relationships beyond romance, which is an interesting and nice change.
What We Love About Black Blood Brothers
- The fact that the relationship between Kotaru and Jirou is the focus of the show and not a romantic relationship is a fresh breath of air. It’s very well written, and it’s nice to have a familial relationship be the focus of a show and not something romantic.
- Jirou is a dark, intense protagonist, and a good one at that. He’s well developed, complex, and a great character overall. Much better than most typical vampire protagonists.
- The setting is gorgeous and very intricate, something that’s always nice to see in an anime. It’s a breath of fresh air compared to most, and everyone enjoys it.
6. Blood+
When things seem at their bleakest, a man named Haji appears at her side and temporarily defeats the creature. Things seem safer, but when Haji forces Saya to drink the creature’s blood, Saya kills the monster with no problem and uses her own blood as a source.
Says learns of an organization named Red Shield, founded to defeat the hellish beasts. Saya and Haji now have to work together to defeat the monsters and rescue Saya’s past.
The anime vampire community is a fan of Blood+, and it’s very easy to see why. Its story is lovely, and the characters interact well with it. They don’t feel separated at all, and everything about the two feels natural and well written. It’s definitely a jewel in the crest of the vampire genre.

- Saya is an interesting, powerful, and unconventional protagonist. And Saya is well written, which seemed unexpected at first considering her original personality and how she was designed.
- The architecture is beautiful, and incredibly well designed. It’s done over very well, and works expertly with the gothic horror genre it attempts to emulate, that being another thing it does very well.
- The romance isn’t the only part of the show, and that makes things unique. Plenty of vampires anime-only serves to emphasize the romance between the vampire character and the other significant protagonist. But Blood+ and the characters aren’t particularly like that.
5. Vampire Knight
Just ten years before, Yuki was rescued from a deadly vampire attack by Kaname Kuran, a Pureblood Vampire. Now, Kaname is the unchallenged ruler of the Night Class, and Yuki can now see her again because of his position. Of course, he begins to develop complex feelings for her.
At the same time, Zero despises vampires, believing that humans and vampires can never coexist with one another. However, a secret from his personal past threatens the shaky truce the school has formed, and the world as they know it is in danger.
Vampire Knight is unique in that it explicitly examines the relationships between vampires and humans, and in a school setting, which leads to different themes and interactions. Yuki isn’t a terrible character, and Zero’s catalyst arc is one of the better ones out of the list. And just as well, the designs are interesting and well detailed.

- Yuki is a fun protagonist and overall very well written, despite his flaws. His relationships with Zero and Kaname are well portrayed and very complex. They’re all very intricate and interesting.
- The animation is beautiful, the setting complex, and the story between the humans and the vampires is well written. It’s an interesting story that has a great and interesting message.
- The character designs and models are set apart from most, and overall very pleasing to the eye. They fit the gothic standard, and the facial expressions are beautiful.
4. Hellsing Ultimate

Another vampire anime that the community actually found better than most. The animation was cleaner, the characters had a bit more depth, and watchers simply liked the premise more. After all, Van Helsing always was the ultimate vampire slayer and nemesis. It was always thought the story had more substance, and that when there was violence, it was a lot cleaner. Overall, another great vampire anime for you.
What We Love About Hellsing Ultimate
- With Hellsing Ultimate, the storyline makes the violence seem all the more intriguing and oddly entertaining, making you not want to look away. This anime is a good example of how a good story does not have to be a byproduct of violence and vice versa. Overall, it does incredibly well story-wise.
- The characters have been accused of being dull, but Alucard is so well written that he can’t possibly help but steal the show. The same also goes for his assistant, Seras Victoria. Very well written and very authentic in terms of personality.
- One of the few vampire animes with a vampire protagonist that isn’t either a side character or a hero, Hellsing Ultimate utilizes Alucard well as their signature anti-hero. He fits the world they built, and also stands out from other vampire protagonists.
3. Shiki
Shiki goes beyond the average vampire story. It tells the tragic tale of survival in a world where one cannot easily distinguish between good and evil. Abandoned by God, the Shiki, as the vampires call themselves, have only their will to live as they clash with the fear of the paranoid/unbelieving villagers. Shiki explores the boundary that separates man from monster.
Shiki’s study on psychosis was what really got people into enjoying the show. The way almost everyone behaved like an anti-hero was interesting since we usually don’t have that. The art and animation, despite being gory, made the community love it. So many parts of the show no one saw coming, so viewers couldn’t help but end up liking it. In the end, great vampire anime to go check out.
What We Love About Shiki
- Shiki is a great anime when it comes to the study of the psychosis of humanity, something a little surprising. It truly focuses on what exactly is happening inside the minds of its characters, and it does it all incredibly well.
- The scenery, in general, is incredibly bright and colorful, something unexpected and a little off-putting. But this works, as it makes the danger even more unassuming than it already was. It’s still eerie, violent, and downright creepy in some moments.

Best Vampire Anime: Trinity Blood
