10. Brawlhalla
Brawlhalla is a 2014 game that fortunately got a Nintendo Switch release. This indie game was developed by Blue Mammooth Games and has an online multiplayer option that lets you fight against people on different platforms; it’s free-to-play and has no pay-to-win advantages as other companies usually do.
9. ACA NeoGeo: Art Of Fighting 3
ACA NeoGeo’s Nintendo Switch releases are never a disappointment; this time we get the chance to play the arcade classic Art Of Fighting 3 with some exclusive display and gameplay adjustable features that’ll let us enjoy this game our own way.
8. Streets of Red - Devil's Dare Deluxe
Developed and published by Singapore-based house Secret Base, this 8-bit inspired style beat ‘em up lets you play on your Nintendo Switch with another 3 friends, giving us a total of a 4-player fighting extravaganza.
7. Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds
This Phantom Breaker spin-off lets you play with the adorable versions of the original characters smashing one another. Originally released in 2015 and later ported to the Nintendo Switch family of systems, Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds can be purchased in the Nintendo eShop if 4-player mayhem is what you’re looking for.
6. Castle Crashers
If this isn’t my favorite artstyle out of this ranking I don’t know what it is. Originally an Xbox 360 release, this Castle Crashers remaster gives the players a huge opportunity to crash extremely cute characters with another person with a single Nintendo Switch by detaching one of the joy-cons. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great brawl experience.
5. Capcom Beat ‘Em Up Bundle
Talking about the game isn’t enough when we have trailers like the one Capcom made for the Capcom Beat ‘Em Up Bundle. Seeing a company making such a creative campaign only greatly showcases the love this compilation was made with. From 1989’s Final Fight to Captain Commando and Battle Circuit, this collection gives both new players and 90’s kids the chance to relive such video game classics.
4. Ape Out
Devolver Digital published this game in 2019 and we’re so lucky it was given a chance to see the light of day; from a top-down perspective, Ape Out is a unique title in which you have to crush your enemies in order to escape from being burned alive, all of this while listening some of the sickest jazz beats you’ve ever heard. I read some comments online about how this game got folks into jazz music, and I don’t blame them at all.
3. Johnny Turbo's Arcade: Night Slashers
This one might be a little bit controversial since it has some emulations problems along with limited gameplay editing options; nevertheless, that doesn’t take away the fun out of this 1993 Johnny Turbo’s arcade classic, being fondly remembered by thousands around the globe who were into the arcade scene.
2. The Ninja Saviors: Return of The Warriors
Android Ninjas making its way through several waves of enemies in a dystopian future. That is a sentence you don’t get the chance to either read or write every day and I dare to say it would be enough to get someone into this title; but if it wasn’t enough for you, the 16-bit styled graphics along with a chef’s kiss animation and gameplay experience has an original soundtrack made by the developer’s in-house band ZUNTATA.
1. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game
“Cult classic” That sentence can be read during the Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game - Complete Edition’s launch trailer and I’d say it fits more than perfect to the experience this Ubisoft title brings to the table. Whether you’re a Scott Pilgrim fan or not, the comedy delivery, the characters, and the soundtrack are on point with the spirit of what Scott Pilgrim represents; and while it might not be close to being a flawless video game, it’s definitely worth your time (and money, of course; it isn’t free).
