Taming is a big part of Ark Survival Evolved. Your tamed dinosaurs will bring you resources, fighting power, and even company. Moreover, the experience itself it’s quite challenging. It may seem like a standard action with specific steps, but there are many ways of taming a creature in this game. The basic taming technique is Knock-out Taming (KO). Additionally, you can use Non-Violent Taming, Special forms of Non-Violent Taming, Fish-Basket Taming, Temporary and Turret Taming, Raise-only, Craft-Only, and Titan Taming.

All carnivores prefer Kibble, Raw Mutton, or Raw Prime Meat, while herbivores’ taming speed can only be increased by using their favorite Kibble. Another useful thing to remember is that a narcotic will increase an animal’s torpor by 40, while a narcoberry can only increase it by 7.5. Another alternative is the Tranquilizer Arrow, with torpor of 100, but a damaging effect for the dinosaur.

How it works:

First of all, render the creature unconscious. Use any of the items described above (Narcotic/Narcoberry, Tranq Arrow)
Open the creature’s inventory and feed it specific food (meat/ berries for carnivores/herbivores) or kibble. Drag the food to its inventory and protect the creature as it eats
Keep an eye on the level of unconsciousness and taming, as may be necessary to give the dinosaur more narcotics if it’s close to waking up
There are some creatures that can be tamed without knocking them down. Examples: Vulture, Mantis, Onyc, Otter, Dung Beetle, Giant Bee, Araneo, and more others. Just feed the dinosaur and then wait for it to be hungry again. Repeat the process until the taming bar is full.
