Getting chitin can become an easy task, but the beginning is always the hardest past. Don’t work yourself too much if you are at a low level and simply use a stone/metal hatchet to collect great amounts of chitin. Take into consideration that any item of  lower quality will harvest chitin rarely, only if you get lucky enough. Search for creatures with exoskeletons, such as Trilobites or Spiders. These invertebrates produce the best amount of chitin when harvested.

How it works:

  • Start with crafting a stone hatchet. It’s the second available tool in the game and unlocks the metal one
  • Find creatures that will get you the best chitin resources. You can try locating Trilobites in the water if you are next to a beach
  • Kill the pray using a spear or any tool with high damage
  • Harvest the corpses using the hatchet

4. Kill Meganeuras with the Beelzebufo

The Beelzebufo is the best creature if you need to collect chitin and cementing paste at the same time. Taming one of these isn’t that hard and the benefits are worth it. It is the best fighter when it comes to killing insects, having an impressive tongue attack and a jump that can cover incredible distances without using much Stamina. And what produces the best amount of chitin? Killing and harvesting insects. The Beelzebufo can combine the narcotic chemicals in its mouth with the insects’ chitin to create a sticky, unescapable substance.

How it works:

  • Tame a Beelzebufo
  • Go into the swamp and start jumping around. Annoyed Meganeuras should start showing up a short time after this
  • Lick the insects until they die
  • Harvest your chitin

3. Diplocaulus

If you advanced to the Mid-Game but prefer to stay around the beach for safety, harvesting chitin with an ax might seem tiring. The Diplocaulus is a natural Trilobite hunter, with an extremely high damage multiplier that makes killing the little creatures an effortless act. You can collect chitin, raw meat, oil, and pearls, all with one instant hit. Not to say that this dinosaur is an amazing form of aquatic transport and a remarkably cute pet. Last but not least, this adorable creature doesn’t even require a saddle.

How it works:

  • Firstly, tame a Diplocaulus
  • Mount him in the water and breathe from his oxygen supply
  • Find some Trilobites and let your Diplocaulus feast
  • Harvest the corpses and refill your chitin stock

2. Destroy Anthills with the Doedicurus

If you love playing on Crystal Isles, this is the perfect method to gather huge amounts of chitin easily. You just have to find some anthills and a dinosaur that can smack them down. An important tip is that the Megatherium, the king of harvesting chitin, doesn’t actually like harvesting these things. The best option for the last part is the Doedicurus. It is an amazing gatherer, having a 75% weight reduction for stone, an impressive cave mount, and can get you up to 150-200 chitin in one hit.

How it works:

  • Tame a Doedicurus
  • Find some Anthills on the map
  • Give the hills some powerful hits with your dinosaur and collect all the chitin

1. Attack Scorpions and Spiders in Caves with the Sabertooth/ Direwolf

Killing spiders and scorpions has always been the traditional method of getting chitin and it still maintains its place at the top. The Megatherium is the best tame for harvesting their corpses but it may not be the best at killing in the first place. That’s why creatures such as the Direwolf or the Sabertooth come in handy when going on a spider hunt. They have a high melee damage and are also great at collecting the necessary chitin, so don’t wait up and tame one! You won’t regret it.

How it works:

  • Tame a dinosaur with an efficient melee damage and harvesting skills (Sabertooth, Direwolf, Thylacoleo)
  • Find a cave or simply search for creatures like the scorpion/spider/titanomyra
  • Start a fight and harvest the corpses to get the much-wanted chitin
