Charcoal is mostly needed to craft Gunpowder or various grenades. It can be produced by using wood as fuel in a campfire, cooking pot, stone fireplace, and many others. While it is not the most effective way of crafting charcoal, burning wood or fungal wood in a campfire is the perfect solution for the Early-Game. Why is it great? The Campfire is available as soon as level 2 and you simply can’t find anything cheaper or easier to build than this amazing method. It offers up to +100 hypothermal insulation and can even protect you from larger creatures.
How it works:
- For producing large quantities of charcoal, set up 6-12 campfires. It is a method that has amazing results, especially for tribes
- Simply fill up the campfires with wood ( fill them before logging off if you are on a multiplayer server).
- Light the campfires and find something to do for the next few hours. 1 charcoal will be produced every 30 seconds.
- Come back and restore your charcoal resource! Tip: don’t let the charcoal stand in the campfire for too long if you are on multiplayer. It can be stolen and don’t forget people use it to make bullets...
4. Burning Wood in a Cooking Pot

What’s great about this method is that obtaining charcoal might not even be your primary goal. The Cooking Pot has the same speed as a campfire and turns 1 wood into charcoal every 30 seconds, but it does this while creating amazing food items, healing potions, soap, different dyes, and during events, even skins. It can hold up to 12 stacks of wood and becomes available as early as level 8. You can craft 211 items while also obtaining a considerable amount of charcoal, so don’t wait up anymore!
How it works:
- For a generous amount of charcoal, set up a few cooking pots
- Fill them up with stacks of wood and light the fire
- With 6 cooking pots, waiting around 5h will make you 7200 charcoal. It sounds like a good deal to me
- If you are on a server, let them burn overnight and wake up when the job is done
3. Phoenix and Magmasaur

Creatures such as Phoenix or Magmasaur are living campfires/forges. They can passively cook Raw Meat placed in their inventory and produce decent amounts of charcoal, all while being amazing hunters and gatherers. They have fascinating combat skills, like the fire rocketing attack (phoenix), and are brilliant guardians. However, keep in mind that a Phoenix isn't easy to tame. It must be struck with fire weapons such as flaming arrows or a Fire Wyverns' breath and the process will take a while. This method is perfect for an advanced game when you have the freedom to get creative and explore various options.
How it works:
- Tame a Phoenix or a Magmasaur. This is the challenging part
- After that, because these creatures have the element of fire in their genes, just putting wood in their inventory should do the job
- Have fun with your incredible tame and check their inventory a few hours later
2. Burnt Trees

I know it sounds quite bizarre, but large amounts of charcoal can be gathered directly from specific trees, just by using your dinosaurs. Where to search? On Ragnarok, charcoal can be collected on Volcano Plains from the burnt trees. These trees can also be found on the Lava Biome on The Center or The Great Trench on Valguero, so there are plenty of sources to choose from. For the best results, try taming a Fire Wyvern or a Mantis, as they can get you up to 200 Charcoal from one hit.
How it works:
- Tame an efficient dinosaur for collecting as many resources as possible
- Find Burnt Trees in the indicates places
- Hit the trees while riding your tames and collect charcoal, as well as wood.
1. Industrial Forge

Building an Industrial Forge is by far the best method to get constant amounts of charcoal. It converts wood into charcoal with a rate of 1 wood per second, being 30 times faster than campfires or refining forges. You should choose to build one especially if you are Mid-Game, as it’s also essential for improving your game. As it is an advanced crafting station, The Industrial Forge can refine Metal into Metal Ingots, and Oil and even produce Gasoline from Hide, with a 20 x quicker speed than the regular forge.
How it works:
- First of all, you have to build one. It’s not a piece of cake but it’s also not impossible. You need: 2500 x Metal Ingot, 250 x Crystal, 600 x Cementing Paste, 400 x Oild and 400 x Polymer.
- Fill it with a few hundred woods and don’t forget to add gasoline as fuel.
- Wait for a couple of hours and observe the results.
