Everyone knows that if you want to maximize your experience of fun and adventure in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, it’s important to get early and consistent Nook Miles income. Whether you plan to use them for exclusive shopping opportunities at Nook Stop, to unlock various customizations and QoL improvements in-game, or to fly to Mystery Islands full of resources to plunder and cute residents to recruit, Gamers Decide has you covered. In this article, we are going to share the top five ways to really maximize your Nook Miles income.
5) Nook Stop
Daily check-ins yield a small but dependable stream of Miles to spend.
The Nook Stop, located in Resident Services after you have upgraded the building from a tent, is a very handy tool for all kinds of things. You can use it to store your excess bells, to shop from the catalog, to buy recipes, cosmetics, and QoL upgrades… and to earn Nook Miles! Stopping in at the Nook Stop at least once per day will net you an increasing bounty of Nook Miles, up to a cap of 300 per day. It’s not a lot, but it’s a zero-effort way to get some bonus miles while you play.
4) Visit a Friend
Would someone explain to me how the flightless birds wound up in charge of the airline?!
I started playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons way back at launch, but the game has grown so much since then. In addition to the other benefits of travel, using a Dodo Code or local play to travel to a friend’s island is now profitable, too. The first time you visit a friend on any given day, you’ll get a tasty, tasty bonus of 800 Nook Miles upon your return. Once again, it’s not a tremendous amount, but for a very small, otherwise pleasant time investment, it’s a nice cherry on the sundae.
3) Daily Challenges
Nook Miles + is one of the keys to swift and steady Miles income.
Once you get the Nook app explained to you by the Don… I mean, Tom Nook… you’ll have access to challenges that change daily and can award you with Nook miles. These refresh as you complete them, so you’ll never run out of things to do that will put a couple of extra Miles on your ledger.
These tasks run in value from 100 Miles up to a couple hundred, and I have never seen the slightest indication that the game will ever stop assigning new tasks as you complete old ones, so these represent an effectively infinite pool, as long as you are willing to put in the work. Read on to learn how best to utilize this strategy to earn buku Nook Miles.
- Tasks are not repeatable, but the game continually assigns you new ones as you complete old ones, so this is effectively an almost infinite pool to pull from, so long as you are willing to put in the time.
- Some tasks are generated with a multiplier. If you complete that task, you’ll get the base reward printed on the task token, multiplied by that multiplier. This can lead to massive boosts.
- Always prioritize tasks based on time/effort in vs reward out. If you have a task that will give you, say, 300 Nook Miles, but will require you to travel home to grab some tool or other you left behind, and then to hunt all over your island, and one that will yield you 200 but you can do it in ten seconds, take the latter one first.
2) Get All of the Achievements
Every step of every achievement earns you more sweet, sweet Miles.
In addition to bragging rights, achievements are great for earning you comparatively large chunks of Nook Miles all at once. They can either be focus-fired intentionally, or you can take your time unlocking them all as you play (there’s no secret achievements; while some are harder to complete than others, all of them will be unlocked in the normal course of play assuming that you are engaging with the game on its own terms. Here are some tips to get the most out of Achievements for Miles-earning purposes.
- Many achievements have multiple tiers, earning increasing rewards for each one. If you are going to be working on a given task anyway (say, chopping wood in preparation for a massive DIY crafting binge), then try to shoot for the next tier of a given achievement while you work.
- Early game, you can really rush a number of the lowest-level achievements for a big boost in your initial NM total.
- Pay attention to the wording of specific achievements, to make sure you don’t waste time. For example, there are achievements for catching X amount of bugs, and ones for catching X amount of distinct species of bugs. If you’re aiming for the second, rather than the first, catching fifty common butterflies a day will yield you practically nothing,
1) Make Use of Other Players
Hosting a swap-meet and charging a door fee is just one more way to get NMTs from players.
Whoo, this one is the hottest ticket around! It doesn’t technically yield you raw Nook Miles, but using other people means that you can get a whole ream of NMTs fairly easily, leaving the Miles you earn as Miles free to be spent on shopping and such. It’s no secret that NMTs are the biggest Miles sink in the game, especially if you are hunting for a specific resident, so getting NMTs is effectively getting Miles, since it means you don’t have to spend those Miles yourself to acquire them.
If you want to get the most out of wheeling and dealing with other players for fun and profit, make sure to utilize the following tips.
- If you have rare items, spare pieces of art, extra copies of fossils, or other things of value, you can often trade them to other players.
- Got a resident you’re looking to get rid of? Check their value with the trading community; some high-end residents go for HUNDREDS of NMTs.
- Turnips selling very high on your island during this time block? Start charging an entry fee to other players who want to capitalize on it! Works even better if it is the last trade time prior to the reset; anyone who still has their turnips by that time is going to be pretty nervous about not getting the chance to sell.
- Never, ever, EVER spend your own Nook Miles on tickets if you can help it. Make use of your friend circle, and online communities such as Nookazon and the Turnip Exchange, to rake in all the NMTs you’ll ever need just normally as part of play.
That’s it for the best ways to get Nook Miles in Animal Crossing: New Horizons!
